What do you do with your valuables?

Hi all! Every year I camp at WDW, but this summer my friends and I will be staying in a hotel room (pop century). I am going to bring my laptop, and I want to know what everybody does with their valuables when they are staying in a hotel room. Do you use the safe that comes with you room or do you bring your own lock? Or do you not lock anything up? Just curious. Thanks for the feedback.

Cash, credit cards etc go in the safe. Everything else I leave in an inconspicuous place. Never had a problem.

Safes in the rooms are about two inches deep (maybe a little more), but definitely too small to put an electronic the size of a laptop. Honestly, I've taken expensive MacBooks, iPod, and whathaveyous, left it on the desk of my room in clear view and nothing has ever happened to it. Disney provides good safety measures to insure people who aren't staying at the resort don't have access to room areas. That's not to say you shouldn't exercise caution but chances someone other than housekeeping enters your room are slim.

We jammed things like purses, wallets and jewelry into the safe. We rarely left our cameras back at the room, but when we did- we zipped them into bags. We often left our laptops out- no problems though.

Thanks for all of your input! I have a new macbook pro, so I have been a little hesitant of leaving it in the hotel room. Even though I hear it is okay to leave laptops in the room, I am a little paranoid . I will most likely bring a lock... Just in case.

Anything valuable that fits, goes into the safe. My laptop I usually just set inside my suitcase, and keep it zipped up. A friend of mine checked into the Wilderness Lodge a few weeks ago, and they gave her a room someone else was already checked into. She could have taken anything from their room (didn't of course!), but it's always better to be safe than sorry. Use those safes. :)

have been bringing laptops and electronics to WDW forever and have never had a single problem in dozens of trips -- I do, however, store it in my laptop backpack when I leave the room. Still, I have never heard of any thefts like that at WDW. I'm not saying it can't happen -- but chances are very low.

On my last trip (2009) we stayed at POP. I brought my laptop with me. I had no problems fitting it into the in room safe. We also kept our passpports in the safe too.

I always leave both mine and my wife's laptop on the nightstands.
I also have an ipad which I put it inside one of the drawer and my wife's unused Canon L lenses as well.

We never have any problem with it. But it's always good to be cautious. perhaps as other have mentioned put it inside your suitcase and lock it or something.

I'll be taking my MPB as well and maybe my iPad. I don't think you'll have a problem. Bring a lock for your suitcase if you want to feel more confident that it's safe. I plan on locking up my CC's and prolly just leaving my electronics in my laptop bag. I've never had a problem with any of my valuables.

Small things we put in the safe. Our laptop we just put it in the dresser and put clothes on top of it. We've left things out and nothing has ever happened to it.

Yeah, Pop has the newer, larger safes. I was easily able to fit my old clunker 1.5" thick laptop in there.

That said, the newer superwidescreen models may have an issue.

To be honest, to answer the OP - I leave most of it at home. I used to lug all that stuff and never ended up using most of it. I'm there to enjoy being there, not using all my electronics.

For instance, I have an iPhone, which takes care of any internet necessities - checking flights, etc. Camera, videocamera (I use a flip-style one - though a better one than Flip brand), that's all I really need. I used to bring all manner of stuff, which would just sit in my bag until I got home.

Take what you think you will need, it's often better to have something you don't need than not have something you do, but think about what you'll actually be using it for while there. If you can't come up with a concrete reason you need something, might just be better to leave it at home, for it's safety and your sanity.

We always stay at Pop and put things like my wallet, our money and travelers checks, and any other smaller valuables in the room safe. I left my iPhone4 on the top of the dresser most days if I didn't feel like bringing it to the parks with me, or at least in one of the drawers with my shirts or shorts. My daughter left her laptop in a laptop bag above the safe, on the metal shelf where the hangers are for clothing or in her suitcase most of the time. We never worried about any of our stuff the whole trip, or on any of our previous trips to be honest.

Whatever will fit in the tiny safe goes there, ie. extra cash, passports, ipods, etc. However, we've brought laptops before and left them in plain sight and had no problems with mousekeeping. If anything, we've left cash for a tip and they wouldn't take it....had to leave a note specifically stating it was for them :)
This will be the first trip with the iPads...doubt they will fit in the safe, so if they're not with us I'm honestly not that worried.
Have a great time!

I have a regular MacBook 15 inch and it fits in the safe.

We've only on occasion used the safe. Not much in valuables that we leave in the room. My son always brings his laptop. He uses a Kensington lock on it then puts it in his luggage.
