My dear friend is planning a trip to the world in september. Sounds good but wait he went to the Disney web sight and couldn't get into the hotel section and called me:eek: Explaining the web sight took a few minutes and after that he said do you know how much the dining plan is now? He doesn't ever make ADRs ahead or eat desert. Where do I start and what do I tell him? Should I try to talk him out of the dining plan? He never orders anything expensive.

I would explain to him that getting reservations at Disney restaurants are hard to get, and to check out te dining options they have and see if he is able to make reservations for what he likes if he is able toget a good amount of ADRs then tell him to opt for the dining plan. If not, let him know e will be wasting his money by getting it and is better of spending OOP for dining.

Get them round for a sit down chat.Its easier to explain/discuss face to face and lay out all the options for them.
Then just say
"well it would be easier all round if you just payed for me to be there as a tour guide "


Worth a try :D

He's done this before!:eek: He's from Jersey also so he's a stuborn pain in the butt! We always seem to go the same year and yet some how when we compare notes on our trips mine are always better. I think he's trying to budget and I work the math out for him he doesn't get it. I guess my trip will be better again! LOL

The DDP is not worth it unless it is given away. I ran the number for three of my tripswith friends - and once we finished with a $100 savings, but no where near the 40% Dinsey used to promote. I honestly don't think that 40% was attainable - maybe in the beginning of the plans when appy and gratuity were included. Plus, the DDP forced me to take dessert at every meal and I don't eat like that...so I would carry around food and take it back to the room every day/night.

Last year I switched to Tables in Wonderland and there I saved a good amount of money.

If your friend is not a TS person, and likes to go with the flow and doesn't expect to be at BoG, Cellier, etc then he may do fine.... I have another friend who made one or two ADRs for her week stay and was more than happy with that...the rest of the time she and hubby either did QS, or figured out on the fly where they wanted to eat. (No, they didn't eat flies, but one night when it rained so hard they didn't leave the hotel they were stuck since everyone at BW felt the same way and there were no food options for them.).

Planning other people's trips is a lot of work, especially when they're wishy-washy about what they want. Let someone who knows more do it. And they get paid, so good for them, too. :)

If he is going in September, he won't have any problem with reservations (aside from Le Cellier and BoG), especially if he is flexible enough to eat a table service meal for lunch. I have been going with my family for the past several years in September, and I always end up making our reservations through the disney app a few hours before we eat (the horror - we don't have iteneraries). Half the time we end up getting hungry early and walk up anyway. I also wouldn't go down there again without the dining plan. I know I am being ripped off, but that is OK. I think of it as paying for the convienience of not having to think about prices while I am on vacation and helping me to be a gluttonous slob :)

Your typical guy doesn't want to do the work. And he doesn't care much about the details. If you keep the cost somewhere near what he was expecting, he will be fine with whatever you do.

The problem most of us women bring on ourselves is trying do it super-perfectly right. That's why they ask us questions. They know we'll be all, "Oh, well, we have to do this and that and..." And we'll take over everything and they won't have to do any of it.

When men ask you questions, you can rest assured that they don't care about the details. If they really cared, they'd look into it themselves. He knows calling a travel agent wouldn't be hard. It's just easier to ask you a question and let you do all the work, lol.

If you want the pressure off you and back on him, start going into great detail about stupid stuff he doesn't care about. Ask him bunches of questions. Never drop the subject. You'll see...he will quickly absolve you of the work, tell you he will take care of it...and call the TA.

Most men truly don't care and will be happy with whatever. Promise. :)

Well, now that I have a combined image of my various friends and family from NJ all being stubborn about WDW trip planning ;) I'd probably be blunt if he keeps pushing for help. i.e. \You don't eat enough and plan TS dining enough in advance to make the DDP worth it...so drop it unless you enjoy wasting $. I know...probably a bit too harsh, but it may be the only thing that works if breaking it down for him doesn't get through.

I have a friend who has me break it down for her each trip. i.e. she'll show me her dining plans by the day - i.e. where and what she's thinking of eating...I then show her how much $ Disney is making on her if she does the plan.
