What Disney character would be perfect for young children to meet during their first trip to WDW?

One of the very special things about Walt Disney World and the Disney Parks in general is the characters. While alot of kids love Disney characters. Some can be a little intimidating due to their size for a couple children while it isn't mostly viewed by the other children or guests. For parents who have children who experience meeting a couple characters. What Disney character at WDW or Disneyland do you think would be less intimidating or fun to your child especially for first time visitors.

I always find Marie The Kitten from The Aristocats to be one of those very friendly looking characters that most children would not find intimidating or a little frighting looking. She's one of those Disney characters that gives the best hugs next to Minnie and is very cute. The same goes for Duffy (Who stopped doing meet and greets as of October 2015) and Thumper who sometimes showed up at Animal Kingdom.

We took our daughter right before she turned 2 and she loved ALL the characters. I think you just have to know your own child. Maybe someone like tinkerbell if you're worried about the furs being too scary. But if your kid watches any disney jr shows then they will be in for a treat. My daughter was soooooooooo excited to meet sofia and even jake.

The first characters my kids met were Chip and Dale. (It was a pop-up meet and greet that we just happened upon and the kids squealed, "can we meet them!!!?" I was a little moved by it, since it just so happened that some 30 years earlier, the first WDW characters 6-year-old little me ever met were also Chip and Dale!) :) I thought it was a perfect introduction to characters (second to Mickey himself, of course.)

My 1 year old great nephew loved, loved, loved Minnie Mouse and Goofy. Mickey was a bit too frightening for him. Can't explain it but a year later he still loves looking at photos of himself with those two characters.

At 21 months, my granddaughter loved any character that looked like a big stuffed animal....Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Chip and Dale etc. She was not too sure about the more "human" characters like Alice, the Princesses etc. Not sure what it was....maybe the make-up. Anyway....enjoy and let your child take the lead. My granddaughter actually ran up to the characters and gave them hugs. :cat:

I remember yelling out loud in happiness when I seen Chip and Dale meeting at Epcot. Luckily I was one of the last ones to meet them since the line was closing.

Winnie the Pooh and friends at breakfast in the Crystal Palace is a good one I think
In October we went with friends and they have a 3 year old girl and 4 year old boy. The 4 year old loved everybody especially Buzz Lightyear. The 3 year old wouldn't even look at anybody and screamed if the character even got close. The only exception to this was at Crystal Palace! She gave all 4 a huge hug and if you ask her about the trip she mentions piglet every time. :)

We've been taking our daughter since she was 3 months old and she's never had an issue with any of the characters. In fact, the Fairy Godmother actually held her when she was about 4 months old. Some of the characters are able to be seen before actually getting in line, so let your children see them and see if they actually want to meet them.

Good luck!
