Me and the wife are thinking about going to Las Vegas next year for our anniversary.
Anyone have any suggestions/tips on where to stay and eat. I know we want to see a couple of Cirque shows, but other than that we really don't have any idea on whats all there.

Thanks in advance!

We've stayed at the Venetian and the Bellagio - I've only been twice so I am BY NO MEANS an expert!! From walking around I can say that The Wynn is REALLY nice. Really upscale and beautiful. It's towards the end of the "strip" so a bit more subdued than some other hotels that have more of a party atmosphere (but it IS still Vegas!!). I think I would stay there if I went again. Their buffet is supposedly unreal and has whole lobsters. The hotels are really all over the top by design, so I don't think you can go wrong there. I've also heard great things about the Aria and that hotel is more centrally located. Bobby Flay's MESA grill in Caesar's is outstanding - if you are a fan of red meat I would definitely check it out!

Awesome! How long did you stay and roughly how much did you spend on everything?

Bellagio was a LONG time ago - I think we paid around $200/night. We stayed a week but were ready to leave after 5 days. We didn't have kids yet but had just gotten a new dog and we missed him (he's now 11 - we need to get away more!!). We would do a light breakfast and lunch and then some sort of big dinner - probably under $100/day for food. And then there's the gambling. I'm by no means a degenerate gambler, but I do have issues walking away from the table when things aren't going well. Shows are around $100/ticket - they do have those half price ticket booths all over the strip but we didn't trust them!! A bit too shady!! We saw Jersey Boys - it was great but not as good as Broadway. I'd definitely see something you can't see in NYC.

When I stayed at the Venetian is was for a business trip so my company paid for everything. I spent a bit above and beyond what I would have if I were footing the bill.

Personally I've only paid to stay at the Excalibur several years ago. The visit before I was in a timeshare offstrip. However a few months ago I was on a business trip where I got to stay at the Aria at the new Citycenter. Looking into it the rooms are about $300 a night and are very luxurious, but can be a little technologically frustrating. Everything is controlled through a touch screen next to the bed.

For food in the mid-strip hotels you are pretty much looking at around $100 a day like NYwdwfan said if you are very thrifty. Anymore than one sitdown meal a day I'd double the dining budget. Its a celebration so you are probably going to not want to stick to the buffets and casual eateries. There are so many fine dining options I don't think 3 visits is enough to recommend any of those properly.

I saw both Love and Zumanity in terms of Cirque shows. If you love the Beatles than you will likely love Love. Its got some great scenes based around different stages of history from WWII to the age of hippies. Zumanity is the sex Cirque. It is not just topless showgirls though, its Cirque so things get weird. Love was around $150 a ticket, while Zumanity was around $80.

Gaming: I started with $50, it wasn't enough for playing craps and blackjack. But I walked away up $40.
