I've seen many pics here where certain colors just show in a black and white pic.. like snow and prince and just "red" show up..

what is that called? Im looking for that setting next time I get a new camera and wondering what it is? Im clueless!

Im looking at the canon SX100 IS Does anyone know if this camera has it??

Your talking about something that is done in photoshop. There is no camera (that I am aware of that does this). My husband is a photographer and said he said it is called color replacement. Any photo from any camera can do this.

I think I know what you mean. Do you mean pictures where some characters show in color but the background is b&w?

I think all of these were done in post-processing. In other words, by downloading to a computer and processing the picture with a program like Paint Shop Pro or Photo Shop. It's easy to tell the program to find a border between two objects, like a person and the background, and then make one section black and white, and the other retain the color.

My camera does this with no PhotoShop.

I have a Canon Powershot SD750.

Like this, right?

YES!! Thats what I mean.. so is there an adjustment or something on the camera? so you choose "custom color" when you choose if you want to take the shot in b&w, sepia, etc??

It is called Color Accent. You focus in on which color you want to highlight and the camera does the rest.

And I may be mistaken, but I think that the Color Accent feature may be exclusive to Canon. When I was buying my camera, it was the only brand that had it.

It is called "Color Accent" and some Canons do have it. Unfortunately the model you are considering does not have it.

Ohhh, I was talking about something different. Color accent can also be done on photoshop. Many of the powershots will do it. SLR's don't. Sorry about the misunderstanding.

So I read this thread and learned about color accent, hadn't heard of it before then. I opened up dpreview.com to see if my canon camera had this feature, to my surprise, it listed it as a feature of my camera (A720 IS). However after looking for it for an hour (and then googling around a bit, I found out that it does not have color accent and dpreview.com's review of features was incorrect. So if you're still looking to buy a camera just because of this feature, scratch the a720is off the list (although i did find a cool tutorial on how to do it in photoshop). http://www.picturecorrect.com/photoshoptips/colorspots.htm
