I'm not sure what's around $200 but there are several features that you should look for. Look for a camera that has an optical zoom as apposed to a digital zoom. Almost all digital cameras have a digital zoom but you get better pictures with an optical zoom. One thing to avoid is proprietary batteries. These are usually much more expensive. Look for one that takes "AA" batteries and get NiMh rechargables. These last the longest and are fairly cheap. They also don't get a "memory" effect like Nicd batteries.

You might acutally think about raising your $ amount to around $300 as this is the starting range for cameras with optical zoom.

The new Olympus D520 is good camera to start with.
You should be able to find it for less than $300. It's 2.1 megapixel which is good for making 5x7 prints. It also has a 3x optical zoom.

Do other people have this problem with digital cameras, or this just mine.

BTW I also have an Olympus 35 mm I just love.

Most digital cameras are a bit slow when it comes to taking pictures but there is something you can do to help. Most autofocus cameras have a feature where you press the shutter slightly (not hard enough to take the picture) which will cause the camera to focus and lock the focus (and set the exposure) until you press the shutter all the way. You could use the feature to eliminate the delay that you get if you just put the camera to your eye and press the shutter.

As long as the subject doesn't get any closer or farther away (or get into a radically different lighting) you should be able to press the shutter slightly (called a half press) and follow your subject around until the time is right then press the shutter the rest of the way. This will emlinate about 1/2 or more of the shutter lag.

Well Im going to ask for onr for christmas so I dont want to ask for a very expensive one. Maybe I can get an nice out of box. My sisters boyfriend works at Circuit City and he got her a $700 camera for $200 out-of-box, it was only used about 2 times.

Thanks for the help on this. I figured it was a digital thing. I have found that sometimes that works for me, but I am going to try it more often. My problem is by time I get the shot my 16 month old has moved out of range. At least I can delate it later. For the really great take them now or lose them shots I have to get the flim camera. :)
