What camera do you use?

I picked up a Canon G2. It's faily light, takes pix at 4MP, and uses flash cards. I havn't seen a feature that I didn't like. It's the equivalent of a SLR, where you can figure out apertures and f-stops. I you barely know what that kind of stuff is, and usually set it on auto. From there it takes care of all the shots for me. This was extemely cool when it came to traveling in Europe. If I had used my other camera aps or auto 35mm, I'd only get a dark blurry picture. But with my G2, pictures in farily dark places without my flash came out PERFECT. The majority of the time when I visited museums they don't allow flash photography. This camera may be a bit expensive but boy does it take EXCELLENT pictures!!!! Oh it even has something called photo stitch, for TRUE panoramics.

I've included a picture that i took in a farily dim room. No flash and everything is sharp. It was taken at Versaille Paris.

I am using an Olympus c204z which is a 2mp pixel. if takes great pics and fit my budget nicely. It has auto and manual mdoes for ISO, fstop and apeture. The lend is equivelant to a 35mm 120 kens and the digital zoom adds 2x to that. it also takes 14 sec of silent movies and b/w photos. G/l and let us know what u decide

I am a long time Nikon user and fan, and my film cameras are still Nikons. But I recently decide to go digital, but without spending an arm and a leg. I compared, and ended up with an Olympus D510, a 2.1 Megapixel camera I got for a great price at CompUSA. So far I love it: the big test starts Saturday at WDW!:D

DisneyCP2k,

If you had used your 35mm camera in that room in Versailles, you would have got the picture I got!! totally dark.... :(

I just got a digital last week... I don´t know anything about it, but Dan gave me some directions on what to buy, and I think it works well for what I need it... just fun. It´s a Sony DSC PC 31 2.0mp I took some pictures without flash in a theater and they are pretty good considering we were sitting not too close to the stage. IT costs around $250usd, and I got it at a very good deal here. It uses two AA rechargeable batteries, and has many features that I haven´t discovered yet! :animwink:

Flash can be spoiler in many pictures!!! I visited the Mona Lisa and saw tourists taking flash photos of the painting. I swear there was a flash every 10 seconds or so. Luckily the painting is behind some type of glass to prevent it from falling apart from the flashes. I personally think it's a copy. so many flashes during the day, week and year it's gotta hurt the painting. Plus none of the employees said anything about flashes, they just sat there and watched. Well back to my point about flashes. I'm positive that every person who took a picture of it with flash had a BIG WHITE spot on top of her face  That's probably why the employees didn't say anything, they too busy watching tourists wasting thier film.

Personally, I have a Sony DSC-P5. In my opionion, it's an awesome camera. It wasn't too pricey, is compact, and lightweight. It uses memory sticks insted of compact flash or other media cards. Although it doesn't have f. stop or aperture settings, I don't miss it. I would probably keep it on auto if it did anyway. I'm just not to that level. It is a 3.2 megapixel, with a 3x (6x digital) zoom and mpeg capabilities. All around, a great camera.

Heading for the great escape.
Presently Im using the Nikon F90X for conventional photography, and the Nikon D1H for digital, a great camera but I only have it cause its my working kit. I also have A Nikon4004 and a Nikon Lite Touch 70w compact. I have been a Nikon lover since the introduction of the F3.
My wife has had a couple of Cannons ( She sounds like a missing extra from POC) but had probles with both.
With the improvement of film and digital i hardly touch medium format any more.

Best thing about digital is i can take something fiddle with it and stick it through our lab and have it back in 10 mins.

i'm going to buy a digital camera very soon too......

have narrowed it down to 2 models....

the canon ixus 330 (powershot 330 in usa)

or

sony dsc p9

i'm thinking of paying the little bit extra and going for the sony as it's lighter than the canon and not that much bigger

any advice would be appreciated.

:)

Having never used either im probably not the best person to answer, but a few things to bear in mind,
What are the lens capabilities, digital cameras have the effect of increasing magnification so on my D1 a 28 mm lens is closer to a 50mm

Whats its power source, custom batts come at a custom price.

What flash card comes with it?

Is the image in the viewfinder what you get on the print?

Pixel rating how much is true rating and how much is software enhanced.

Do you have software to fiddle with your images or is there some thrown in?

Is it robust and stable enough to withstand the elements?

does it take a good picture? or are the skin tones magenta?

Camera choice is up to the individual and their own prefrances, ive been raised on Nikons and as a result im biased. Always ask yourself before buying any camera " what exactly am i going to do with this" you may not need all these Gucci features afteral.

I have a canon elfh110, which they don't make anymore, but there is a new version of it out. cheeper and a few more gagets I think. I like it, very easy to use, a standard flash card, and a recharageable battery :)

I use an Olympus 2100UZ. It has a 10x optical zoom (most cameras are 2-3x zoom) and image stabilization (like Sony's steady shot on their camcorders).

Here's a link to some pics I took on our last trip to WDW in December 2001. There are some US/IOA pictures in there too.

Contray to popular belife the Mona Lisa in the Loove(sp?) is not the Genuine article. The original was switched when the Mona lisa was making a tour of US cities some time back. the original is in the home of an ecentric art collectoe in new york. It's in a book I saw about 20th century hoaxes.

I knew it!!!! Thanks for the info. I seriously didn't think there was any type of glass out there that could prevent a flash from harming a painting, especially one as famous as the Mona Lisa...
As for the camera, it is a digital camera. It takes photos like a slr ( the type where you have to set aperture, time, and such) I still have yet to learn these basics but given it's got a Auto setting I tend to use that a lot.

I have a question for all the digtial users out there. I have a Nikon Coolpix 775. 2.1 mega pixils. It is nice, takes good still picutres, but there is such a delay when taking candid shots I always miss the good shots of my daugther, I end up taking 3 or 4 and hoping by luck one of them is good and deleting the rest.

Do other people have this problem with digital cameras, or this just mine.

BTW I also have an Olympus 35 mm I just love.
