Trip Report What a whirlwind week!

When they say time flies I think that applies double to a Disney week!
Welcome and I hope you enjoy following along on our hectic but (I think) fun trip!

I started planning this trip a couple of months ago for all of my family. We haven't all been together since the pack up and move out week a year ago and I thought it would be nice for a family get together that didn't involve work. ( I CLEARLY forgot that while Disney is fun, it can also be work.)

Travelers included, myself Cindy, son Seth, his partner Jake, daughter Aleisha, son in law Julio, and the grandchicks, (who wish to be called Ariel and Elsa!)

When-March 27-April 1
Where-Was supposed to be all Poly Tower (more to follow on that.)

This would be the first trip for Elsa who had one goal the entire time, yep, she was meeting the other Elsa and she made sure everyone knew about it!

In my next post I will explain why these princesses are wearing their well used travel sneakers instead of princess appropriate footwear. It is quite the story.:cautious:

I am all up to date on your TR and loving it! The whole airport fiasco sounded so incredibly stressful but you handled it much better than I would have! 🤣 How wonderful that they sprinkled some pixie dust for your first night with a stay at the Poly Bungalows! You really can't beat that view for the MK fireworks! You really packed so much into the week that you were there which is so impressive with two little ones! Love the shirts that your son made for the trip along with the birthday snack bin for your daughter's birthday celebration. I agree that the kitchen/dining space does feel smaller at the Poly tower versus some other DVC 2-bedroom spaces. I've truly enjoyed reading your trip report thus far. 😍

Epcot day continues-
We headed over to the Land to attend the Behind the Seeds tour.
Julio is an amazing cook super into foods and growing things, though a lawyer by trade, and I thought he might enjoy this the most.
Because Elsa was too young to go on the tour I booked Aleisha, Julio and Ariel to go first while we amused Elsa. The tour is an hour, then we would trade off and Seth and I would attend.

Separating her from her parents required some serious diversions so we decided to ride Living with the Land. Seth pointed out, what if she sees them on the tour while we are riding? Oh, that would never happen says me.

Yup, the tour group was walking out of a back door onto the stage area as we floated by and sure enough, Elsa tries climbing out of the boat to get to them! She has zero survival instincts.

Luckily Uncle Seth is quicker than her and we continued on somewhat peacefully with her still in the boat.

This was a photo they took on their turn on the tour.
They said Ariel was really into it, asking questions, etc.
IMG_1300.JPG

After that we handed Elsa off and it was our turn for the tour.
IMG_9337.JPG

This is a plant/flower they talked about on the tour, Vanilla orchid. I couldn't remember the name of it and it's importance so I had to consult with Seth and he remembered it all.
It is really interesting in that each flower only survives for a single day. They talked about how important pollination is to producing vanilla beans. They hand pollinate these. (If I understood all of this correctly.)

The tour is nice for several reasons. It's only an hour so not a lot of time out of your day, it is very informative and interactive, and very reasonably priced. I will tell you it is hot as blazes in the greenhouse area (and we were there end of March) and you stand for the bulk of the tour. They do have a water station part way.

While Seth and I were on the tour they took the girls to see Nemo and the aquarium.
The girls apparently liked both the ride and the aquarium.

We then headed towards Mexico and Norway. On the way we stopped at one of the stands for some food and I am sorry, big old Disney fan here but I have to complain about something I can not get over and has been increasingly annoying me the more trips I take.

WHAT is the deal with absolutely no seating to rest and the insanity of serving food with no where to put it, to stop and eat?!?!
We grabbed some Mexican food at a stand and there were literally no tables, no shade, no seats, nothing. The girls were in the stroller and I said s...w it, and had them in the stroller at the exit just trying to get a drop of shade from the building and they were trying to eat the messy food in the stroller, we were all standing with our food, no where to put our drinks, etc. It was awful.
It might be considered first world problems, but I can assure you I rarely buy food here because of the crazy of trying to eat it, and this just reconfirmed my decision.
How much profit did Disney post this last quarter? And you can't buy and install even some high top tables, never mind stools or something???
Even the 2 freaking trash cans were occupied by people trying to eat.
I prefer Disney to Universal but at least you can sit down over there.
Sorry and big rant over.

Anyway, we moved on to Norway where we rode Frozen. It was not a favorite and Ariel semi lost her mind with the darkness of the ride, and going backwards?! Oh boy!
I don't know how you can go from a 2 thumbs up Haunted Mansion to having a cow over this one! 🤷‍♀️
IMG_1345.JPG

Grandma's solution to this problem was to replace a bad memory with a good one. Let's hit the gift shop and buy a frozen treat! Don't knock it, it worked.:)

Even though it was hot, and getting a little late in the afternoon I realized that the real Elsa was next door with a 20 minute wait. The little Elsa was estatic at the opportunity to get to see the princess she worships!

First Anna.
IMG_9812.JPG

And then the moment she had been waiting for "all of her life!"
As you've realized all through this report at the request of the parents their faces are covered, but I can assure you this was like Christmas and a birthday day all rolled into one! There are about 40 pictures of her excitment and adoration getting to see the "real" Elsa.🥰

After our meet and greet we continued on our tour of the world.

Ty very much for following along!
We did do a lot with a fairly large entourage.
The bungalow upgrade, and the shirts were all a nice added bonus for sure.

I definitely don't think it is a rant to complain about the lack of seating and shade in Epcot. We have eaten on trash cans more than I like to admit! Plus, if you are one of the lucky ones with a table, people are hovering near you to grab your table/bench as soon as your done which makes me feel rushed.

I remember Brin's first time meeting Elsa! She was over the moon. Happy tears were definitely shed that day!

I had to laugh, your luck is as good as mine, when your granddaughter saw her parents on the tour!! What are the chances??!!!

Would it kill them to have a few tables?!
These little ones sure do love Elsa.
And yes, you would think I would quit underestimating my bad luck!

Epcot day continues-

We left off having seen the princesses and continued our tour of World Showcase. They all wanted to go into the store in Japan but on our way there I asked Seth to run in and grab some of the caramel popcorn in Germany while I had the girls in the stroller. Snow White was out meeting guests and the girls really wanted to meet her but there was a really long line and it was getting very hot. So we watched her while Seth ran into the store which shockingly didn't have a line at all.

She was doing a little dance here.
IMG_9351.JPG

The kids went into the Japan store and I decided to continue walking on.
I saw this at one of the booths and was so tempted!
But since I can kill artificial plants I figured it was money wasted.
IMG_9354.JPG

While in Japan the girls did the pearl opening thing (I'm so glad it's back!) And I don't have picks of their pearls but one of them got a very large pearl and one of them got 2!!
IMG_1276.JPG

As I said it was really hot and I had always thought the orange slushy drink that people have posted about looked so good, so I txtd my Disney crew and they told me I could find it here.
IMG_9355.JPG

I don't drink much but I decided to treat myself. The line was really long but so worth it!
On this really hot day this hit the spot. It's a Grand Marnier Orange Slush.
They CM apologized because it was a little bit melted and I asked if it was cold and she said yes, that was all I needed!

Trying to pretend like I'm Instagramming here! 🤣
IMG_9359.JPG

I sat down on the steps here and thoroughly enjoyed my cold drink and the solitude!
IMG_9360.JPG

A few minutes later Seth txtd and asked where I was (solitude over.)🤣
But it was ok, we got to spend a little time together just the 2 of us.
We got a few nice photos on the way out of the scenery and then of us.

IMG_9368.JPG

After that he and I took the monorail back to the resort and did some shopping where Seth found himself a really nice beige sweatshirt with the Polynesian Village name on it.

Aleisha and Julio met back up with us at the resort and this was the night that we tried to eat at the restaurant in the Poly Tower, Wailulu Bar & Grill but no dice, no seating for close to an hour and take out 2 hours!

We ended up mobile ordering from Captain Cook's but in retrospect we should have just waited for a table as that took over a half hour anyway.

The girls played in the sand while we waited for our food and then we went upstairs to eat and start packing up for our exit day tomorrow.☹️

TRAVEL DAY, LEAVE DAY, FUN OVER DAY...
Call it what you will day, but sad to be leaving day for sure!

We had a reasonable flight time of 11 am so finished packing up and Seth and I took the stroller back to bell services to leave it for pick up.

Little tidbit for those of you needing to rent a local stroller or scooter etc. I believe that Scooter Bug that we used is the only company allowed to bring and leave items with bell services and you don't have to meet the company rep.
When we rented a scooter from another company a few trips ago we had to meet them, which is ok but you have to time things more carefully.

We took it over and I took pictures of it, I always do this with anything I rent, as proof of condition upon return.

I forgot that this cool little Mickey is on the floor of the entrance to the resort. I have a Disney pin that is a copy of this.
IMG_9380.JPG

I think it was appropriate that this was our view the morning we were leaving, even the sky was grumpy!
IMG_9254.JPG

We gathered up our gear and headed down to the front of the Tower to meet our driver. Via txt he apologized multiple times for running late (was literally only 10 minutes) due to the construction on the road out front.

We parted company with Seth as he was going home and he sent me these pictures. Apparently due to the construction his GPS directed him to a backstage area where he caught these photos of the train!

IMG_E1384.JPG

We made it to the airport without incident and had time to grab a little breakfast before we had to do the walk of sadness.
Party's over! ☹️
IMG_E1385.JPG

And @Swissmiss, we finally got those cuddles!!!
IMG_1284.JPG

Elsa wanted nothing to do with us!🤣
She's that flying companion who yanks their ear pods out in annoyance when you ask them a question!
IMG_1292.JPG

We got home with no more drama and I'm already trying to think of a way to go back! Actually, I have been thinking about a short hop to Disneyland to see if I want to start getting my fix there.
Thank you all for following along, I appreciate it and hope you enjoyed it!

I had said I would summate our experience with the Premier Pass for anyone interested, just ignore this if not. Here are a few (actually a lot) of thoughts.
1-It is ridiculously, unfairly, obnoxiously? expensive.
The frustration (in addition to paying for this) is in my opinion, Disney has created a problem that they are benefitting from the solution. We all know there needs to be more attractions, people eaters etc. and then there would be less need or desire for any of these upcharges, PP, any of the lightning lane options, special parties etc. So Disney isn't using money to build new attractions AND getting money from people trying to circumvent the long wait times they have created.

2-It is absolutely unnessary to purchase and no one twisted my arm to do it. The decision making came as I stated earlier in the TR because of wanting to decrease the "friction" of long lines and make this as enjoyable as I could for the entire family. The parks were incredibly crowded during our week and that helped push the decision.

3-We did not use it as effectively as we could have. We started too late in the morning, and not everyone wanted to or could do all of the attractions.
And it's an odd dilemma. I think it would be so much better with fewer people as you can move quicker and take advantage of it. The opposite of that is that it was helpful because as a large group moves more slowly it eliminates the added time of standby queues.
We didn't all use it on all of the rides due to naps, meltdowns and just general end of day fatigue.
And due to the cost you do feel the need/pressure to squeeze as much out of it as you can.
As I was typing this I did a mental count in my head and realized that we missed HM, Pooh, Small World, Space (because no one wanted to go on it) and the Tea Cups.
We did go on a lot of rides we normally would not have, the kids rides mostly.

In MK, the only park we kept track of stand by times out of curiousity, it cut down on wait times by over 8 hours which is huge for one day. We did not have to wait more than 5 or so minutes in any LL.

4-PP does not work for character meets and greets as they no longer have a LL. I'm not sure I understand why the LL were removed because I do remember using that feature back in the day.

5-On our AK day we used a combination of LLMP and LLSP. It was obviously much cheaper and had the added benefit of being able to change parks which we did, you can't do that with the premier pass. We started out at AK getting pretty much everything we wanted and then as soon as that was done I booked at MK for later in the evening, catching a number of the rides we missed the first day.

6-Being the chief organizer it very much helped to keep me off of my phone. We made a decision on what we wanted to ride and walked on. By contrast while we got to do a lot with LLMP, I was on the phone a good bit looking for times, etc.

7-Premier does include all of your photopass photos for 30 days so if you were considering photopass it's of some "value."
I'm actually unsure of cost because on line it says just PhotoPass photos and rides, but we also have an AP with the photo feature and got all of the character photos too. 🤷‍♀️

8-One last point. With how expensive this was I looked at what a VIP tour would cost. The day we were there the VIP tour was, no lie, $900/hour for a 7 hour minimum, and fun fact, they were sold out!!! I told the family that every time you saw a plaid person coming by those people had paid a minimum of $6300 for their single day!
The difference and advantage to a VIP tour, is they will take you out of the park via the back door to wherever else you want to go during your paid time frame.

Anyway, sorry for the long winded Premier Pass information. I hope it was helpful to anyone who is considering it or interesting to others who are not.

It was so fun following along on this trip and getting to experience the Poly Tower through your pictures! Loved that you got the bungalow upgrade for the one night even if it is a pain to pack up and move to another room. I'm glad your family had this chance to enjoy being together and immerse themselves in the magic after the difficult year you had. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us!
