Trip Report What a whirlwind week!

When they say time flies I think that applies double to a Disney week!
Welcome and I hope you enjoy following along on our hectic but (I think) fun trip!

I started planning this trip a couple of months ago for all of my family. We haven't all been together since the pack up and move out week a year ago and I thought it would be nice for a family get together that didn't involve work. ( I CLEARLY forgot that while Disney is fun, it can also be work.)

Travelers included, myself Cindy, son Seth, his partner Jake, daughter Aleisha, son in law Julio, and the grandchicks, (who wish to be called Ariel and Elsa!)

When-March 27-April 1
Where-Was supposed to be all Poly Tower (more to follow on that.)

This would be the first trip for Elsa who had one goal the entire time, yep, she was meeting the other Elsa and she made sure everyone knew about it!

In my next post I will explain why these princesses are wearing their well used travel sneakers instead of princess appropriate footwear. It is quite the story.:cautious:

Hollywood Studios day continued-

We headed back to the hotel to rest for a few minutes and then headed to dinner.
The next day was Aleisha's actual birthday and she and Julio had a dinner reservation in Japan at Takumi-Tei, it was my birthday gift for her.

Seth and I were taking the girls to Chef Mickey's. (Jake had started to not feel well earlier in the trip and hadn't been hanging out with us or it would have been 3 against 2.)
As Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman says, big mistake, big, HUGE! Only we didn't get to go shopping, we had to survive 2 wound up, no napped, Disney character loving crazies!!!

It was just like it sounds!

We got the girls in their new Chef Mickey shirts that Seth and Jake made for them and Aleisha and Julio went towards the TTC and we went the opposite. There were many tears at first because the girls wanted them to come with us. But we just swooped them away towards the Grand Floridian. We figured if we went the same direction it was all over.

It's actually a sizable walk to catch the monorial from there and we had a hard time finding the lobby coming from that direction.
We were also running a little late so we didn't stop to see the Easter eggs.

We got there and were seated fairly quickly.
We went to the buffet and I have to tell you all of the children present were less rude than the bulk of the adults who acted like they hadn't eaten for a week. Like why are you going to push a little kid away from the low buffet to get your tater tots first?!

As an aside and unrelated to this trip. Similar (lack of) politeness, Saturday we were at Costco, I have both girls in the cart, it's heavy with items, and I was trying to "merge into traffic", you know, just get the cart going up the isle. And this late 30-40's dude barreling down the isle towards me, doesn't slow down, just under his breath says why don't you walk up the middle of the isle.
Gramma said something a little rude to him and kept moving.

Anyway, back to Chef Mickey's. The characters started to come through and they were so cute with the girls.
Pluto first.
IMG_0964.JPG

Then Donald, that both the girls and Seth love.
IMG_0960.JPG

IMG_1103.JPG

Then Gramma's favorite!
IMG_0963.JPG

IMG_0973.JPG

And then they had the character dance that the girls went wild for! Goofy was out of control and he was doing the grab your ankle and hop dance. I tried to Google what it's called but couldn't find it but the girls were showing it off to him when he came by our table later!
IMG_0994.JPG

Next we got a visit from Minnie. So cute, and the girls loved her shoes!
IMG_1002.JPG

And then we got a little bonus, Pluto came by a second time!
IMG_0959.JPG

The girls were absolutely wired for sound at this point. We were going to take them over to the MK but Seth and I had run out of steam so we hopped a very crowded monorail back to the resort.
I have never seen Elsa so out of control. It was only a 5 minute ride but she insisted on showing everyone in the very crowded car the Goofy dance and tried to pole dance at the same time. We tried really hard to get her to cool her jets but it was like adding gasoline to the fire!

I KNOW the people on the car were so grateful to see our backsides!
We decided to let them play in the sand because no way were we taking them up to the room this wound up.
IMG_1106.JPG

IMG_9846.JPG

Little observation about the new Poly Tower. Someone had asked in the Poly thread about this hotel and one of the things I mentioned is that while it is very nice, clean and new all it has is this little sand area with 2 hammocks no chairs, located in the front of the hotel, the little pool and a fake grass area for the kids to run that has a lawn chess set. That's it. And the food offerings are crazy limited for the volume of people in the two resorts. Disney has to fix this.

Anyway back to our trip. After the kids wound down, we went upstairs got a snack and let them chill before bed.
Aleisha and Julio made it back and had a fabulous dinner but got absolutely drenched on their way to the resturant.
When we exited Chef Mickey's we had noticed that it had rained while we were inside. It was the only time it rained during our vacation.

Tommorrow is our last park day ☹️ we'll be heading to Epcot.

Those Chef Mickey T-shirts for the girls are spectacular!! As someone who makes t-shirts as well, I am amazed at the number of layers on those. That is a lot of aligning! WOW!!
I shared your comment with Seth and he said they would definetly not be making them to sell as the vinyl was very expensive and they had to use an iron and not a heat press. He said an iron and parchment paper only goes so far! 🤣

Wow, you are a super grandma and Seth a super uncle!!! Just seeing the photos (I've never done Chef Mickeys) of the chaos that is all around, that looks like quite the fun experience.
frozen let it go GIF
We've eaten there a few times and I don't think it's ever been non chaotic! (And I think it's pretty pricey too, $44 for a kid to eat 3 tater tots.)

EPCOT DAY!

But first we had to roll out of bed and go across the way to eat our breakfast at 'Ohana.
While we were getiing ready Ariel called me out to the balcony to show me this really cool art work in the sand that she spotted (and none of the rest of us had noticed!)
IMG_9260.JPG

We decided to have breakfast at 'Ohana because of Gary.
It was his absolute favorite and he would ask me each visit, "did you get our Lilo breakfast?"

We took this picture when Lilo came around. I told Lilo that my Gary loved his visits with her and it's hard to see but on my phone in my hand is a photo of Gary and Lilo. I started crying when she held her hand over her heart.🥲
Boy do we miss him.
IMG_1153.JPG

After that things got lighter as they will with a 4 and 2 year old wired for sound and wanting to see the next character come by. (Oh and juiced up, literally, on POG juice and maple syrup!)
They got their photo with Lilo.
And can you see their crocs? We had to buy them some replacement shoes, they were so cute and they light up!
The bad part is that Aleisha said they are uncomfortable for them and they don't like wearing them now that they are home.
IMG_1198.JPG

IMG_1144.JPG

I was able to grab a quick photo of my favorites, both Mickey waffles and POG juice, yumm!
And I don't know if you all know this, but a good while ago they removed bacon from the menu, sausage only, but if you ask for bacon specifically they will bring that out for you.
No trip is complete without a Mickey waffle (or two)!

Another change to note, is that they no longer have the really cute parade with the characters and children and musical instruments. Just the characters go around the restaurant to the music.
IMG_9262.JPG

Next up, Gramma's favorite came by.
IMG_1171.JPG

IMG_1180.JPG

Then our good boy!
IMG_1189.JPG

And finally another family favorite, Stitch! We love Stitch.
IMG_1162.JPG

And then another favorite photo of the trip. As Ariel and I were walking out she saw something that really struck her 4 year old funny bone! She's laughing hysterically in the pic!
I didn't even see it but she sure caught it, maybe because it's eye level for her!🤣
IMG_9836.JPG

After that we walked over to catch the monorail to Epcot at the TTC.

DAY 1-TRAVEL DAY

So to explain the princess sneakers let me start off by complaining via story time.
Sorry very txt heavy.
My darling daughter likes to live on the edge when it comes to being on time.
We had a 6 am flight. Not boarding, flight.

I could have driven my own car but they insisted we would all fit in theirs. Ok, we did.
But, she initially said they would be picking me up after 4:30 for a 20 minute drive to the airport. I waited a day to complain and she said ok, we'll be there at 4:30. I'm literally standing outside at the end of my driveway in the dark and was picked up maybe 4:35.
We start to exit the neighborhood, and daughter says, oh I forgot my magic band. Turns around so maybe another 7 minutes to go back, get it and get on the road again.

We need to drive through McDonalds daughter says. To my credit I still haven't protested yet.

We head for the highway, 2 separate on ramps are blocked and we have to go through town.
Stressed Mickey Mouse GIF

As we're getting closer to the airport I ask if Julio is going to drop us off so we can check bags while he parks, no we'll all go to the garage. We circle the garage and end up on the 3rd floor before we find a spot.
We are bolting across the bridge to go down to the American counter.
run running GIF by NBC

We get there and the machines will not let us check our bags, they direct us to the counter where the "customer service" woman informs us we missed the 45 minute prior to departure bag check and she has to rebook us. (And when we asked where that information about luggage cut off was, with a saucy tone she says, the app.) I was unaware of this policy before, probably because I don't cut it this close.:banghead:

I'm saying no no no in a horrified voice, Ariel says what's wrong Grandma? I try to chill.
Then the gate lady who is very unsympathetic, says I have 4 seats (there's 5 of us) leaving at 6:20 through LA that is scheduled to arrive in Orlando a half hour after our original flight.
I think for a minute and ask if one of us can go on the original flight with no bags, she says yes. So Aleisha says you go on that mom, we'll go through LA. They take my big bag and my daughter shoves their carry-on to me and tells me to take it. (It wasn't till later that I questioned why that happened.)

The gate agent says you need to go you only have 10 minutes till they close the door for your flight and I still had to go through security. (Luckily I have preck and it's a small airport.)

I'm almost in tears (dramatic I realize), but I was stressed and sad because Ariel had asked to sit with me on the plane and we were going to snuggle and watch movies, etc. As I turned to walk away Elsa yells Gama and runs to hug me, then the tears did start, mine.

I get to the gate with time to hit the bathroom quickly, get on as almost the last person and there was an open luggage spot in the first class area. The attendant said I could put the bag there, as I was seated way in the back. The bag that has all of the princess dresses, shoes, park sandals, etc. You know where this is going, right?

I almost never have a carry-on any more and actually sent myself a txt that I hoped would ding when we landed to remind me to pick it up on the way off of the plane. I also was able to contact the driver scheduled to pick us up in Orlando to tell him "our" flight had been delayed and we would be at least a half hour later.

We land, in Dallas, huge airport. I have 45 minutes (from the back of the plane) to catch my next flight!!. I am as anxious as a cat on a hot tin roof by now. You know what happened, I walked right past the bag and after, no lie, my THIRD gate change I remembered the bag. They were already boarding my next flight and the gate attendant said I could go back to get the bag, she wouldn't call the gate we came in on for me, and she could rebook me on another flight.

I felt a little ill at this point. I got on the plane and paid for internet and called Seth. He and Jake agreed to go to various stores in Orlando to try to find the girls some princess dresses, shoes, etc.
He kept in contact with me showing me what he could find.

View attachment 853425

He ended up getting a variety of the above dresses, but I felt bad because in the suitcase were the "real" versions of the princess dresses that the girls love to use for dress up and weirdly despite them checking multiple stores couldn't find the more elaborate versions. He bought the shoes but they didn't fit well and they couldn't use them, hence the well used sneakers, but we did use the crowns.

I got in on time and the kids flight came in about a half hour after mine.
While I was waiting for them to arrive I went into the Disney store to see if they had any dresses. The CM told me they didn't and the only 2 places she could think of was the bibbity bobbity's. I even had our friend we were meeting who was already there check Creations as she was in Epcot for the day. No luck.

I waited for them and had to confess I lost the suitcase but Aleisha reassured me the girls would not know as she hadn't told them what was in the bag and they would be happy with Seth's choices.

Again, sorry for the long story.

Up next, arrival day continues with an interesting (but cool) twist.

An update on the lost (forgotten) luggage situation.
$131.85 later, it arrived back home.

Angry Lilo And Stitch GIF

The airline uses a company called chargerback to retrieve and get lost things returned.
You file a lost and found form with description, etc. and through some convoluted process they end up with the item and hold it hostage unless you are willing to pay the fee they decide to charge you.
Aleisha and I talked and as it would have cost more than that to replace the suitcase, dresses, shoes and whatnot we decided to pay it.
Lesson learned, I guess, grrrrrrr.
That's really annoying, but thankful that the girls got their stuff back

After that we rode Pirates and again I wasn't sure what the reception would be, but I had them hold their ears in the cannon area and they really enjoyed the rest. Ariel loved the treasure at the end.:) Our ride photo didn't show up and honestly it happened so much this week I ran out of energy tracking them down.

As we went through the shop at the end I told them they could pick out something, Elsa didn't want anything but Ariel loved the loose jewels you could buy and put into a box. We weren't sure how it worked so we put jewels in there and went to the checkout. The CM explained that the jewels had to fit into a little black bag that were with the jewels, and I offered to go back and get one and she said, oh we have some here. (So apparently I'm not the only person who does not understand how this works.) She was very sweet, she helped Ariel stuff that bag to the very top with all of the jewels she had picked out with a few peeking out of the top!🥰

After that Seth, Jake, Ariel and I went to ride Tiana's.
It was hilarious. She was loving the ride till the last drop. And boy oh boy was she mad. Not scared, mad!! 🤣
We flew down and got absolutely drenched at the end. I had rain jackets and forgot to put them on us.
View attachment 855291

We traded places and Julio and Aleisha rode Tianna's while we watched the passed out Elsa!
View attachment 855290

That box in Ariel's hand is the one from the Pirates store. It's a nice little wooden trinket box.
View attachment 855283

While Aleisha and Julio were waiting for us they got some beignets that we shared. They were super sticky but tasty.

We had dinner reservations at Skipper Canteen but had time for one more ride before we met up with Aleisha's friend.
Another first for us, Magic Carpet! It was cute, but I would never willingly wait in any kind of line for it.
View attachment 855310

At Skipper's we were seated at 2 tables and it was complete chaos from the time we got in till leaving. Despite there being a table right beside us, they insisted on putting the second one across the busy isle. Then the waitress said she couldn't add Ariel's meal to our tab because she was 3 feet away.
I was getting a little cranky and said if she comes over here now can you take her order and then we will let her go sit over there (she wanted to be with the other little girl in our party.) Well...I guess I could.
Keep in mind there were plenty of chairs at either table.

Anyway, we ordered and ate in a bit of a rush. The food was fine as always but with the crazy I didn't get any pictures of our food here either.

We headed back up the hill to catch a few last rides and the little late day parade came by. The girls thought it was the best thing ever!
View attachment 855315

It was getting late and I wanted to get a ride on the Mine Train and Peter Pan before we left but Ariel started with a bit of a melt down right after the little parade, so her dad took her off somewhere and Elsa rode Peter Pan with us, and then Julio took the girls while Aleisha and I took a quick ride into the mine. I love this ride and was so bummed Ariel wouldn't go on it, but she was maxed out.
View attachment 855289

We still hadn't received a room notice, but at this point I knew they had to have a room for us so we headed out of the park. We had plans to probably come back again tomorrow evening.

On the way out we picked up one of the refillable popcorn buckets and that was a big hit through the rest of the week.
I took this pic for a friend who was planning on coming the next week and was curious what bucket was currently in use. IYKYK;)
View attachment 855286

We rode the monorail back to the Poly with fingers crossed that at 6pm we would have a room to go to.

So quick comment on use of premier pass today. Out of curiousity we checked standby times for each ride and kept a tally. It was well over 8 hours and that was before I started forgetting to keep track towards the end of the day.
The reusable popcorn bucket really is one way that WDW has DL beat. Even with the reduced cost of the refill, I still end up spending more on popcorn refills in FL than I do buying individual boxes in CA. Disney popcorn has had me in a serious chokehold since the 80s.

Yep, I've mostly recovered!

I saw someone with them in the parks during my last trip, and thought they were so brilliant!
Some genius mom came up with those!

EPCOT day!

We took the monorail over to Epcot and stopped for a photo or two on the way in.
I think the topiaries are amazing!
IMG_1333.JPG

IMG_1252.JPG

We then went on Spaceship Earth which neither of the girls enjoyed.

After that we headed over to Guardians and Aleisha and Julio rode first.
Julio was very upset because right before this photo his magic band somehow fell off of his wrist.
They talked to someone after who canceled it and gave him a card to use for the rest of the stay.
(Just a little cautionary note to all of us), they told him they deactived his band but when I logged on and checked it was still active. So if you ever lose a band or card make sure you check to see if it has been properly deactivated.
IMG_9583.JPG

We had the girls while they rode. Elsa had fallen asleep and Ariel who established her love of these frozen bars on our last trip enjoyed one while her sister was passed out.

IMG_1316.JPG

Seth and I rode together. This is the loading area.
IMG_9331.JPG

And our always interesting ride photos!
IMG_9582.JPG

We headed over to the Land to go on our Behind the Seeds tour.
We had to do some kid juggling to make this work. Elsa was too young to participate but Ariel wasn't.
Would things go smoothly? You can pretty much guess the answer to that!

Seth and Jake had also done another thing for me before we got there. It was Aleisha's birthday during this trip and in the past I have used Disney's service, Magical Floral and Gifts. They were pricey but had some cute things over the years.
I was super unimpressed with both the choices and the prices for what you got this year.
So Seth and Jake went and bought treats, a basket and made her a shirt too and had it there for her when we arrived!

View attachment 853637
This was a serious bargain compared to Disney's service and so cute.
The shirt was really cute too. Aleisha loves Tinkerbell.

It was really interesting to realize that the bungalows have now been there 10 years. That was actually our motivation for buying DVC and Seth found me a 10 year anniversary pin.
But, sadly the bungalows are also starting to show wear and tear already. The corners weren't super clean, the toilet paper holder was broken and falling off, etc. Time for a little refurbishment.
Don't get me wrong, we've stayed here before and would again, but it could use a little touch up.

Up next, how about some fireworks?
BUNGALOWS MAJOR SCORE!!! That's great! 😍
