Just got back from a really quick trip and Disney, in this situation, is kind of all over the place. The problem really is that parks and the property are back to being packed, but there's definitely an employee shortage and perhaps some hesitation on the part of the employees who are there to be what they once were. Don't get me wrong, we had a nice time, but it's different.
Upon arrival, we checked into the Movies and were given our room keys. When we entered the room, I noticed that the beds didn't look made. We looked around a little more and saw a cellphone charger. "Maybe someone left it," we thought. I walked toward the bathroom and saw "stuff." A family's stuff. There was money on the counter. I called the front desk twice and nobody picked up. My brother found a housekeeper who called his superior and she said, "Oh, they just tried to call you because there was an issue and they moved you to a different room." I checked in and had a key to someone else's room for 45 minutes before I received that call.
Disney Springs was busy and fine. Most places were open and some had lines outside that you needed to wait on while others just let people in without monitoring capacity.
Magic Kingdom's lines depended on the ride, of course. Carousel of Progress and Small World had no lines (which always makes me worry for my classic favorites), but Haunted Mansion was the longest with about a 50 minute wait. Even the coasters were between 30-40 minutes. Lots of stores on Main Street were still closed, but it seems that as July approaches, that'll be changing. We were frustrated that People Mover stopped for 45 minutes and since we were in the Space Mountain portion, we heard no announcements and nobody came to tell us anything. When they finally did come to get us, there was no apology or explanation, just a "We'll evacuate in 10-15 minutes." Not the most magical moment.
I mentioned above that it was a quick trip, so that was all we really had time for, and based on my experience, I'm okay with that. Like most of you on here, I've been going to this nutty place for basically my entire life and truly love it. In some ways, they tried to make good on some of the things we experienced, but while they kept welcoming us home, it felt like someone else had moved into this place where we'd once lived. I couldn't even get my frozen banana anymore! I get that the world is weird right now, but I hope that Disney finds their footing again. I have faith that it will.
