What a mess

Joe Rohde had a neat post about that a while back mentioning that it’s become a ritual not unlike the prayer flags.

I always thought it was a genius move to design the temple area so it made thematic sense for guests to throw coins into the area.
So what happened with Flight of Passage?

My point being-- Strive for excellence. If there are no complaints, the standard will keep getting lower. Customers should always hold the company their are fans of accountable. Especially if that said company is going to charge such a high price.

If your pricing suggests #1 tourist destination in the world quality, then they should continue to try and be that same quality. 🤷‍♂️
I don't disagree with that, however, I am not able to apply it to everything. There are many items that we must insist on what we call excellence. And who really defines excellence anyway? There are things like safety, security and general happiness that we must insist on some degree of excellence. There are somethings that we must be diligent about, but a theme park isn't one of them because everyone can live quite nicely without ever entering a park. That makes it something that is not necessary for anything except entertainment. And entertainment is not a necessity. We have no say in it so all we can do is either stop supporting it or by supporting it we are part of the reason why the excellence is gone. It is not necessary for them to continue to get disgustingly rich. We can control it, we just decide that it isn't worth the effort or sacrifice for us to exercise the only power we have and that is via green backs.

I have made the decision that after 40 years of loyalty they reached the point, in my opinion, that the reward was not worth the cost and haven't been in 4 years and have absolutely no desire to ever go again. A lot will have to change for me decide it is worth it again. If we truly want to force the excellence we have to be willing to fight for it. I am not willing anymore. There are 400 billion (probably a minor exaggeration) other things to spend my money on. Stress, frustration and anger are not any of them.

In my mind, it is everyone's individual decision and judgement to continue to support them but unless they have a compromising picture of the CEO and a goat they can used to convince them to agree to make those changes we need to stop complaining and just decide that what we see is what we get and stop expecting the unlikely. Yes, I know Walt Disney blah, blah, blah. Might I point out that Walt never had more than one theme park and it was nowhere near as technically complex and wasn't a massive Resort the size of Manhattan owned by stock holders. Even he would have had to let things go to some extent. There are just so many hours in a day.

But that’s the bar that Disney set for themselves. And usually still does.
I understand but today those are nothing more than words. Walt set that bar in a much simpler time and he had complete unwavering control of the property. Walt died 57 years ago and those words were strong for years after, but many, many things have changed and that policy hasn't really seriously been stated for years now. It is a different company, with nary a single person named Disney in charge, with different financial set ups and goals. It is a company of accountants that have set the bar now and have massive control. We have to accept that the bar has changed whether we like it or not. My feeling is that we have to stop searching for absolute excellence and find a way to enjoy the rest, if we can afford it, by looking for what is good and paying little to no attention to the things that are less then perfect. I will agree that it usually still does, but if we just focus on what isn't up to the bar, we are hurting the enjoyment for ourselves over things we cannot control and putting less attention to those things that are still good.

That monorail sign is just totally inexcusable. World class? Not by a long shot if these are their standards:

$30 strobe lights…that is an extreme take my friend!
Is it? It's a strobe light. Sure they paid more than $30, but we're talking about Disney here. They can't seem to spend a reasonable amount on anything. So in the grand scheme of theme park costs, yea, the fix was probably the equivalent of a $30 strobe light.

huh? You can’t go through life with rose colored glasses, you need to be able to look and see reality. I had a great time on my last visit to WDW - but I noticed plenty of things that I was disappointed in, especially with cm appearance and crowd control issues. This isn’t nearly the same problem at DL currently.

Glad to see the sign is repaired! It looks good. Perhaps this post helped get it repaired in a timely manner. :)

I don't go through life with rose colored classes and never have. They are mostly dark brown, however, I can in a theme park where the good things far outnumber the bad. Then I can enjoy the massive good and ignore the insignificant bad. At that point I can enjoy it all. I still notice most of the problems, I just don't give a damn about them because for once making them good is someone else's problem and I can just move along fat, dumb and happy.

“Probably”, that’s an extreme take. Meanwhile they’re our smartphone gangsters walking around revving your engines. Get mad, ok by me, I will have fun in three weeks.

Granted, THIS IS BAD SHOW! SHAME ON DISNEY, when they hold Cast Members to the same quality of Show and then you see this! NO EXCUSE! But granted, maybe they ordered a replacement and is taking time!? Any excuse for this to be visible to guests who paid out of their noses, it's still BAD SHOW! It would look better just to take it down, even its the whole sign! Then you think, "WHY am I paying out of control prices to be her, when THIS is what I see?"
