Wow, I can't believe all the crap I am reading in this forum about the recent press event. Just can't ever make any of you "haters" out there happy. I mean, just sit back and digest what is being done.
I think I'm most surprised over the whole, "Soarin" attraction. I think its great. Epcot might be voted one of the best theme parks in the US, but, it has been declining in overall attendance. This new addition would be awesome. I know there is a big upset over it being, "Soarin, OVER CALIFORNIA." But is anyone remembering that WDW will be taking part in the big anniversary celebration of Disneyland? I'm sure after the year and a half long celebration, they will bring in a new movie. And if they don't? Be greatful anyways.
The same goes for the new Stitch ride. I remember when AE first opened up; we'd be in line for up to two hours (aahh, the days before fastpass!). Everytime I've been there the last two years, its a walk on. Tomorrowland needs to be refreshed. And if it means bringing in characters like Buzz and Stitch to keep the kiddies happy, by all means...
Yes, it would be nice for all our dream attractions to start development (Beastly Kingdom anyone?) but we can't forget there are budgets. While it is easy for us to think in idealic terms, the Disney accountants can't. If these new attractions please the public, more money will be brought in promoting greater development.
What I'm getting at in this long-winded post is, stop complaining all the time! Be appreciative. Walt Disney World will be experiencing a great rebirth. Can't you just feel it? (those of us who actually think optimistically). For those who don't, go to Six Flags.

For the most part I agree with some of the things you say in your post...however you must remember this is a public forum where people have the right to voice their opinions...some will like the change, others won't....and you know what, no one can change peoples views....

Sometimes its better to think realistically rather than optimistically...while Disney would like you to think everything is going well...Disney has been through a tough slide in attendance...and perhaps some of the people in charge haven't done such a great job...Disney has in many ways lost many visitors becuase of the lack of "new" attractions...and the competition is just heating up...Disney knows this....why else would they build so many attractions so soon. :D

Just my opinion.

What does it say to you that many on these boards (yourself included) have to resort to making excuses for Disney these days? True, Disney is a business and that's the reality. But the business side of Disney is not what makes me a fan. I would imagine I'm speaking for a great many others on these boards as well when I say that. I'm a fan because Disney would not exist today were it not for the dreams of it's founder. Those dreams were what we would refer to today as "out of the box" and gave little to no regard for what the accountants thought. Walt detested the idea of duplicating his attractions. Everything had to be cutting edge, fresh, new and possessing the "Wow!" factor. In the rare times when Disney still does that today, I get excited because that's the type of thing that made me a Disney fan in the first place. That's WHY I'm a Disney fan. When they install rides like Soarin' (a duplicate of an attraction that exists elsewhere...but more on that in a separate post), I'll still ride it of course. But no, I'm not going to get all that excited about it. And I think I, along with any other TRUE Disney fans, have every right to express disappointment.

Well said! :)

Lets hope things change.....and we start seeing more "cutting edge, fresh" new attractions that "possess that 'wow' factor"!

To me E:E will be that attraction...but then again those accountants are still there, and there's no Walt to keep them in their place.....

A few comments on this:

First, have you ridden Soarin'? I know I'm generally alone in this, because Soarin' is essentially a hit and a majority of fans on these boards seem really impressed by it...but I just don't see what the big deal is with this attraction. For starters, the "themeing" in the queue area is basically nothing but few flight-related posters on the walls. Then when you get into the theater where the show actually takes place, the first thing you see when you walk in is the giant movie screen with all the seats hanging in front of it. There's really no attempt to make it seem like it's not simply a movie. Why didn't they use fog effects or something (like in Back to the Future) to create more of an illusion that you're actually flying? I'm not saying Soarin' is a BAD attraction, but it is certainly not the caliber to be a park's signature attraction (as it is at DCA).

Second, having said all that above, duplicating this attraction at Epcot is not necessarily a bad thing, but if they are going to do it, I hope they spend a little extra on it and include a better queue, and more effects to immerse you into the "flying" aspect of it.

Third, I don't necessarily have a problem with it being the same film, but if they are doing this under the claim that it's part of celebrating Disneyland's 50th, then I think that's silly. Soarin' doesn't represent Disneyland (other than the fact that you fly over DL at the end), it represents California. Putting in Soarin' at Epcot would just not work for me as some sort of salute to Disneyland. However, as was stated on another thread, it doesn't really have to be a "salute" to anything. They don't even need to make a point of the fact that it's California you're flying over. If it's going into the Land, then simply showing all the different terrain and just leaving it at that works fine.

On this one, I agree with you ALMOST 100 percent. The only part I disagree with is where you say "to keep the kiddies happy". I like to think this new attraction will be one that will appeal to EVERYONE, not just children. Aside from that, you're absolutely correct with this one. With the exception of shortly after AE opened, I've never seen a long line at this attraction. So the fact that anyone would be surprised it is gone escapes me. Why would Disney devote such a large show building to an attraction that clearly is not all that popular? I have always thought that AE had more of a "cult following" as opposed to truly being popular.

back on topic... I can't say that I disagree with you.... given how half assed Disney has been up until a year ago, anything is better than nothing

There.

If someone is upset at something, they have a right to bring it up. This is a discussion forum. What, shall we have every post be in full agreement? If this were so, none of us would be frank and the whole concept of a forum would be...well, what would it be?

Unfortunately, we can't change each other. We're all different people, and we think something is wrong, we think it's wrong.

Although it's great that you promote optimism, you can't change someone's mind about something. (i.e. I don't like some stuff Disney Management is doing. I'm not going to reject this and become happy - that is something dangerous. Nor would I keep it within me if it's being discussed).

That being said..

Complain Complain? Complain! Complain?!?! Complain.

:p

I must agree with you on some of those points! On others, I differ in opinion. Just remember, we're all different!

That being said...

Let's all hold hands!

Do you know when I think about it, vinyl was better than CD, at least you got some proper cover art work, and wagon wheels were bigger too, and im sure the summers were longer and xmas snowy'ier, yes every thing was always better than it is now.

No...

But you can rip CDs...

Make mp3s...

And then do it with less energy! AND! Distort it.

Those are fun.

Especially with soundtracks I despise..
er...

(Plus, CD's make better frisbees. :lookaroun )

To get this out of the way, IMHO Soarin' is one of the best, if not the best, ride to come from Disney in a LONG time. But it's the fact that it's still Soarin' over California. I mean, for crying out loud, dosn't it seem odd that it seems they just picked some odd state to do? (Yes, I know they are using the DCA movie, but to the average Joe, he dosn't know). It wouldn't cost that much more to film a few more sceans to add, so it can be Soarin' Over The World, or America?

I wouldn't do Soarin' over the world. That has little to nothing to do with The Land unless it describes impacts on the Land or ecosystems. Hopefully we'll see something like this!

Like I said earlier...now I don't have to go to DCA... :lookaroun :p

Otherwise, it'd do better in World Showcase. :)
