Western Way stench...

One thing nobody has mentioned (and that I experienced first hand in my recent visit) is the stench of the Disney sewage treatment plant near the Western Way entrance. You can find the plant on satellite images, and you can experience it yourself when you drive that route. I wonder what impact that will have?

BTW - thanks for all the warnings about the speed limit on the bridge. It was being watched closely, and my guess is that the speed limit is a result of the proximity of the road to DAK (to keep the road noise down).

So that's what that was. I thought it was just backstage Animal Kingdom. We had our windows down driving into Western Way on our last trip and the stench really caught us off guard. It was pretty bad.

It's not a real smell, it's special tanks under the roadway that pump out that delectable smell to all the passerbys.....oops wrong area :lol: ............maybe that is why not that many people use that road.

I took that route last October and I saw just a handfull of cars and it help cut about 15 minutes off my travel time! I can handle the smell to miss the traffic over on I-4.

Yeah I smelled it too. It was pretty nasty. On the way back home we make sure to have the windows rolled up and the vent off.:hurl:

They should just move that smoke spewing 'It's Tough to Be a Bug' billboard that's at the Magic Kingdom exit over to Western Way. It will all tie together perfectly.

i do not know if this years marathon went by there but in the past the runners used Bear Island Rd to get to Animal Kingdom for the Magic Kingdom Resort area. Sure motivated people to run faster

The second worst part of the marathon.

The final two miles of any marathon are usually miserable. But THAT smell made miles 15-17 pretty challenging, as well, circa 2005.

Actually, one of the things I noticed on the marathon this year was that the smell wasn't nearly as bad back there as in past years. All the more surprising since it was ridiculously hot that day, which I had expected would make the smell even worse.
