Website script causing computer crashes

Lately I've been having problems with the forums and site in general. I'm getting this message that says "A script running on this website may cause your computer to become slow or unresponsive, would you like to cancel the script?" or something like that.

And I used to click No, but, now I've had to start clicking yes to cancel it because after a couple hours of browsing the forum/site, the computer does indeed lock up to the point where I can't even do a standard shutdown, I have to hit the reset button to get any response out of it.

This is a recurring problem, happening almost daily now. I think it's that moving image on the top of the page that's doing it, but I'm not sure. Could you look into it?

Are you still having problems with the site? Some people started having problems when Steve added the snow banner.

Have you tried turning off that script? Go to the main forum page, bottom left corner. Open the menu for the forum style and click on 'blue daylight, no flash'...that might solve your problem.

Helpful soul that you are Tramp, you beat me to it - the above worked for me after Firefox kept locking up with the new banner. It's not happened once since I changed the style settings. :D

I read so much of FireFox, what's with that browser
Can I still have my favorites at the left side of the browser or only at the top pull down menu...

And most of all... Why FireFox...

I went to Firefox on Ogryn’s recommendation. It’s a little slimmer than Internet Explorer – more noticeable on my folk’s older PC, not as many security holes in it, built in pop up stopper and I’ve grown to love the tabbed browsing.

I don’t use it, but there is a sidebar which can show bookmarks.

Yes you can. Although they are called Bookmarks. You can also have them in the menu, or on a bar.

FireFox because.... its free, fast, more secure, extensionable, easy, blocks pop-ups out the box, open-source, constant development, standards based, uses tabs.....

(need any help, then fire away, or any more details)

(although in most peoples eyes, no ActiveX is a good thing ;) )

Firefox rules! The random photos at the bottom of the page used to crash IE, so I had to switch to the express version, no problems on Firefox. :D

Plus, you just can't beat tabbed browsing.

I would say you have a problem with your Windows install. Perhaps it has become damaged some way by a browser plugin, or some other installed software, best bet may be to reinstall.

WDWMAGIC is tested on Internet Explorer 6 running on Windows XP SP2. In that configuration, there are no javascript (or any other) errors. For the maximum compatibility with this website, I would therefore recommend that configuration. :)

I'm running the exact same thing.

Sounds like I'm not the only one with problems though, Steve. :veryconfu :hammer:
Have you yet tried setting the forum style to 'blue daylight, no flash'? That did the trick for me.

The problem is there are so many different combinations of config. Even when you have IE6 and XP SP2, there can be so many things installed on the PC that can cause trouble.

Try going to TOOLS, ADD INS, and try and disable as many as those browser addins as you can without getting rid of things you want.

Also make sure you arent running any pop-blockers other than the standard XP SP2 one.

You shouldnt have a problem with running any of the Flash styles if using MS IE6. What problem were you having?

I was not using IE6 - I mostly run Firefox now and it kept locking up when I was on the forums. I had to switch back to IE6 for a short time until you were good enough to put up the no flash option.
