Weather in September

I've got a couple questions for all you locals and frequent September visitors.

How often does it rain and what are the parks like when it does? Is it difficult to enjoy yourselves during a torrential downpour? And, one more, where can I get ponchos?

Thanks a lot!

We will be visiting in September too. Rain can be heavy at times, but it isn't to the point that it will ruin your trip.
As far as ponchos go, you can buy them at most stores in the parks. We are going to our local department store (Wal-Martt, Target, K-Mart ) and buying ponchos before we go. You can get a good one for a couple of bucks. In the park you'll pay arond $8 for the same thing.

It will probably rain some while you're there. Downpours can be severe (2 years ago it rained a few of inches in an hour the day we were at AK in late Sept), but the most severe ones are usually short-lived. It usually rains in the afternoons unless a tropical depression is hovering, and then it will rain and be gray all day.

It can be sunny at two o'clock and pouring down at 215. Keep an eye on the horizon in the afternoon.

On the other hand, a storm can threaten and then blow the other way. We almost skipped Fantasmic once because of approaching black clouds, but we went anyway and it never rained.

Before and after the rain it will be sunny and hot. The rain will be wonderfully cool. Florida rain is great. It will be especially humid when the sun comes out after the rain, but maybe not as bad in late Sept.

Bring your own poncho. You'll pay a lot more for it at DW, unless you want a themed poncho.

The weather's just like that over here in Dallas. It's clear as a bell, then it rains, it doesn't rain, it rains again, it pretends to rain, and then goes away like it was never there. I guess I should be ok because I'm used to it. I was in Florida one year in July and it rained every afternoon like clockwork. I can handle it.

We were there last Sept, and it rained every day but one, and all the parks got closed on that day. They have ponchos right in the room, they just charged to you, ya they are a little more expensive, but they are Disney.

Bring a backpack or a small bag, roll them up and stuff them in there, so you always have them with you.

I walked around allot in the rain, it was lite and felt good, there were a few times that I put it on when it got bad. As far as fun in the rain, we had a blast, it really doesn’t make a difference when you at Disney what it's doing out, short of a hurricane, so have fun.

If you bring your own ponchos, you might want to buy them in an unusual color so you will stand out in the sea of yellow ones. (Or beige, in AK)
I have red ones. ;)

Why was it closed that day?

Why do you Americans always have those ponchos on. I've been to Florida quiet a few times in Sept and it only rains for about 10 minutes..... dive in a shop then back out again!

Well their was the time with hurricane Floyd... but I'll gloss over that trip!

OK we in the UK are probably a little more at home with rain than you chaps in the US, but come on it's only rain it won't hurt you! What do you wear for water rides, a wet suit?

Bunch of wimps!

it rained pretty much the whole day most of the time, not just the 10 minute ones, so we needed it, like i said i went with out as much as possible, but somtimes ya needed it, we even went out in the tropical storm, a little windy, but we managed and still had fun. I hope you have better weather, they said that the rain we got was not the norm.

I don't think it will be too bad. I probably won't don the poncho because I can take the rain AND most of the rides I enjoy are indoors anyway.

As a matter of fact, I do wear a wetsuit on the water rides. I sit in the back of the log on Splash Mountain all sealed up in my black garb and scream like a little girl.

It will rain in Spetember, probably more than you want, but the crowds are less than in the two previous months. Just get ready with the ponchos and you will have a good time!
If you want the yellow ones with a Mickey in the back, just make sure you are around a merchandise spot (easy task) when the rain starts... hehe :animwink:

Enjoy your trip! :)
