MONTH AUGUST
TEMPERATURE (AVERAGE) - HIGH: 92ºf / 33.5ºc
TEMPERATURE (AVERAGE) - LOW: 72ºf / 22.5ºc
RAINFALL (AVERAGE) - IN INCHES: 6.8
COMMENT ABOUT THE MONTH: The early part of the month is still very busy, but starts to quiet down towards the end of the month.

I'd imagine it is like most of the South during that time of the year in that it is very humid as well.

Honestly, it is hot as heck, but no worse than many other summers round the country. If you live in a place with normally high humidity in the summer, you have a feeling what its going to be like.

Be up early, take breaks during the hottest parts of the day, and I think the heat is quite manageable.

Just my opinion, though....

If you're in an area with typically mild summers, WDW in August will feel very hot and humid. We went last August and it was actually 10-15 degrees cooler at WDW for us (i.e. we actually went to WDW in August to cool off!!!), but I could tell that a number of people were really feeling the heat.

There have been a number of good threads previously posted on things you can do to have a safe and enjoyable trip in the summer heat. So, you might want to try searching around for summer and August heat based threads.

EDIT- I think the one I was thinking of may be a little bit older, but while I'm posting...here are some summer suggestions (b/c I think it's fun and doable to go in August).
-plan mid day breaks when the heat is most intense- i.e. rest in a/c or go to the pool
-make sure to star touring the parks at park opening and take advantage of morning EMH- these will be the coolest hours. Late evening EMH can also be good for this.
-wear light clothes that wick sweat away
-stay really well hydrated
-wear sunscreen
-wear hats...it's amazing how the heat directly baking your head can zap energy
-wear walking sandals...cooler feet = cooler body
-carry a misting fan if you think you'll be really hot
-try and plan air conditioned attractions here and there to cool off- shopping in a/c and TS dining in a/c is also a good break from the heat
-minimize your load- if you have younger children...opt for a lighter stroller and lighter bag
-if you get any really hot days at home (or even a stretch with a lot of full sun) try and condition yourself by spending a lot of time outside

I'm sure there's more, but it's early and my brain isn't full awake :D

We have been there several times in August, and YES it is VERY HOT!!! But it is manageable if you plan accordingly. Make sure you stay hydrated and plan on taking afternoon breaks back at the resort to swim and cool off.

While it is pretty hot in August, crowds are minimal due to schools being back in session.

Enjoy your trip to the world and stay cool!

I've been there twice in August, it was years ago but I remember it being brutally hot and humid. Those spray fans that they sold in the parks were great and really helped. Most things in wdw are indoors and that AC never felt so good. You will get those Florida storms once a day but it really helps cool down and people start leaving the park.. we never leave, we find it a huge advantage for rides. Bring ponchos.

We do have humid summers here on LI. Heat doesn't bother us. I can tolerate the heat much more than the cold. We've gone the last week of August, not as bad as I thought. We'll be there the first week of August this year. But we've planned accordingly.

Hotter than Hell.

Sorry but Iam amused at the amount of people who say it's that hot it's unbearable. If this is putting you off then let me recommend a visit to a small town called Barstow almost halfway from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. I stopped there for lunch and when I stepped out of my air con Lincoln Continental my first words were.H!!! S!!!!. My eyes were stinging,my hair on fire, flames from my finger tips, never have I had a curry this hot.If you can survive this then you can survive Florida in July/August.:fork:

Yep, it's hot, but manageable. We spent a week there last August, and are booked again this August. Some great tips have already been given on here, but I would add a couple more that we used: we bought a CamelBak backpack and filled it with water or Powerade every morning (you can buy Powerade at the Hess on property). Staying hydrated is essential on those hot summer days! We also bought a "Chilly Pad" - you put water on it and it cools in the air. We bought ours at Bed, Bath & Beyond, but I have also seen them at sporting goods stores.

Hope that helps - enjoy your trip!

August is hot in most parts of the country - why not be hot in Disney :ROFLOL: This will be our fourth time and it's really fine. Yes it is humid. There are lots of places to cool off. The suggestions about midday breaks are key... as for the other stuff  I don't like to carry around a lot with me. You need water bottles that you can refill. Use lots of sunblock. Wear different shoes at night - this always saves our feet. Enjoy the late nights without the July crowds and have a great time!

Well...

If my 70 year old Mom can do August, then you guys can!:D
You will sweat a lot, but I use a washrag and keep it wet on my neck and wipe my sweat w/ it. Sounds yucky, but it works!:)
Bring your own refillable bottles for water. Lotsa water fountains!:) You can get small cups of ice water at most QS restaurants for free.
Waiting for an indoors attraction isn't so bad!

Trade that washrag for a cooling bandana

Howdy neighbor
It's hotter there then it will ever be around here. But we plan ahead. Our goal every day is to be at a park when they open, stay til almost lunch then back to hotel for a swim/rest. We then will head back to park around 4-5pm have dinner then stay until the kids are all tuckered out.

Where we live schools don't go back til after Labor Day. We've done late August 2ce before and doing it again this summer. It works for us. No one misses school and parks aren't crazy busy.
