Weather at Christmas

Hello,

I have noticed that there seem to be quite a few of you who have been to Dsiney at Christmas time on a fairly regular basis. I was wondering over all what is the weather generally like at this time of year. I have a brother who is telling me that it is awful ( he went on his honeymoon in 1987 and said it was drizzly, rainy and cold the whole time.) Is this type of thing common? Is it ever warm enough to swim? and are the water parks even open at that time? I know it will be better than here in lovely New England regardless!! Thanks in advance for your input.

During the day it can be warm enough to swim. It can get up to the 70s and if your are lucky 80. It isn't uncommon for it to get in the 50s or even 40s at night. It didn't rain that much and I've been down there in Dec. twice. Have a wonderful time. Just bring clothes expecting warmth and chilly temps.

Like mentioned above, it dpends on what the entire season is like. I have been there in shorts during the day as well as having to wear a winter coat and gloves cause the high was only in the 40's during the day.

In 2000 when I went it got down into the 30's at night. I can't remember off the top of my head if we went in 89, but there were record lows in the low 20's at night that year.

Magic Kingdom, no choice. I can't remember the last time I was there for New Year's Eve, but if they do the fireworks like they do on the 4th of July, that's the only place to see them (And the other parks to my knowledge don't do anything nearly as spectacular as the Magic Kingdom)

Like everyone else said, it depends on the rest of the year. For the most part, it is entirely bearable. I lived there for many years and I go back every Christmas. We go to the parks every year, the day after Christmas. It is usually sweatshirt weather. I wouldn't normally recommend swimming in December, but the snowbirds don't seem to mind the 60's and 70's for swimming. The parks are just beautiful. It is truly magical.

Turkey is right about 2001 and 2002, but when we went in Dec. in 1998 and 2000 is was in the high 70's and low 80's and not a drop of rain. Still got cool in the evening though. Be sure to take a jacket or sweatshirt and you'll be fine. :)

12/26--1/4 2002--2003 The weather was quite nice. Warm days and cool nights. No rain or cloudy days. POURED New Years Eve.

Same dates, one year later 2003--2004. The weather was beautiful. Started out chillier, maybe upper 60s, but we had several days of low 80s, with no clouds in site. Even shorts at night.

From both of my experiences, the weather was grand, tho I hear it can be downright cold as well. I went swimming for a bit on almost every day with my sister.

Here's hoping for more great, warm weather this year, same dates, haha. :xmas:

We went to the MK the first week of December 2003 and it was in the mid-70's during the day but in the early morning and late night it was a few degrees above 30. We bought gloves and caps at Wal Mart on the way in. I wore sleeves for the day and had an extra thick jacket in my backpack, THANK GOD. On the tram going back to the car that night, I was chilled to the bone, jacket on and everything. But I'm a native Floridian. There was no overcast when we went, by the way.

Some of these responses are REALLY suprising to me. I've always gone during the last week of November/first week of December, and I can't remember it EVER getting below 45 late at night. The days couldn't be any better, with temps in the 70's and possibly 80's.

I'm no snowbird, but that never stopped me from going to the waterpark! (the water is heated as well) 70's is beautiful weather for anything, and the cool weather at night does nothing EXCEPT add to the magic of the parks!

You're going to have an awesome time. You couldn't pick a better time of year, in my opinion! :)

I just looked at the NOAA climatological data for December 2003. The total rainfall for the month was 1.56 inches with no rain from December 18-31. The average high temperature was 70.8 with an average low of 48.7. There was a high of 81 degrees and a low of 36 degrees in the month. I myself will enjoy this type of weather in December. It's exactly the type of weather we are experiencing right now in the Chicago area.

I love how you and I are both sitting inside on our computers right now instead of outside enjoying this beautiful weather right now in norhtern IL.

I've been there in the first week of December for about the last 5 years. For the most part, there is just about NOBODY at the park, which is why I love going that time of the year.

However, I do remember a few years ago it was about 50 with a stiff 20-30mph cold breeze blowing. By sun down, you could see your breath! I'm from NJ and cold isn't a problem for I am used to 4 seasons. But to go to FL for vacation and hit that kind of weather made me wonder why I left in the first place!

I've had days in the 80's, but for the most part, I find the weather to be i the 60's and pleasant...except for 2 years ago where it pourted buckets for like 3 days straight.

Last year the weather was delightful in December. At nights, jackets were necessary, and it was really cold and windy on our last day. December is a great time to go!

Thank you all for the input. Sounds like I will packing jackets and sweatshirts as well as swimwear! If the water parks are open, and we get a day above 70 we will be there. : ) After all here on the Massachusetts coast when the water temp hits 68, we call it beautiful! lol we are arriving on Christmas eve and leaving New Years Eve, we cannot wait!

Thanks again.

You can count on at least one water park being open as long as it is above 40 :)
