Wearing glasses and pools/water parks

I used to wear contacts, but now I wear glasses. (I'll spare you the long details). But on my last WDW trip I found it a drag to swim without my glasses. It was blurry!. Also, at water park rides I had to remove my glasses at our beach chair and, again, it was blurry.

I don't really need contacts at home and one deterrent is they are so expensive to buy (need toric) - and they seem to force you to buy huge quantities. I wouldn't mind just one set or a few dailies for my trip, but I haven't found how to buy in this quantity. And I'm not keen on wearing glasses on water rides or in the pool - obviously. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I don't go to the water parks, but I always wear my glasses in the pool.
I just try not to get my face splashed. I'm not a swimmer, I just go in to cool off.

Get a strap to go behind your head and go for it. I can see blurry without them, but with the strap I see ok and just have to clean them a lot.

After wearing contacts for over 12 years, I recently began having trouble. Unfortunately, it was around the same time as my last trip to WDW. I'm not sure of the exact nature of your problems but you mentioned daily disposables. I tried them on my last trip in August and they were great. My issue has been dryness/allergies and while after wearing them for 10, 12 hours they did begin to irritate a bit, they were certainly tolerable enough to wear while I went to the water parks or spent an afternoon in the pool.

I'm fortunate enough that my eye doctor is also a family friend, so he gave me a week's worth of sample pairs. I'm sure if you ask nicely your eye doctor would do the same :) Contacts can be quite pricey, but even if you got a few pairs just for days you knew you would be doing a lot of swimming it could very well be worth it. I dunno about you, but going without glasses/contacts of any sort is just not an option for me as I'm pretty helpless without them!

Of course, there is always this option.... http://kramerentertainment.com/images/scuba-glasses2.jpg I kid, I kid!

Maybe your doctor would give you a "Trial Pair" of contacts. You could use those.

My doctor always does this for me.

Yup, same here. I usually wear my glasses on a day-to-day basis, saving my contacts for special things, but I always take my contacts along for vacations. I'm terrified they'll fall off on RnRC or some other ride, plus I can actually use my sunglasses! But that being said, I find that the disposable contacts work really well. My optometrist will also give me a trial pair, but for that to work, ask to try the two-week disposables rather than the one-a-day since they last longer.

I know that this is not the most ideal/sensible answer you will receive but i actually wear my contacts in the water parks. I'm not a water baby nor interested in swimming underwater etc so aslong as i dont open my eyes underwater i'm fine. Get a few splashes here and there but aslong as its not a tsunami i have no problems.
I also have to wear glasses and totally understand where you're coming from - you dont really want to wear them both in the theme parks or water parks.
The only thing i would be concerned about it the fact you say your lenses are quite expensive - mine aren't, i arnt fussed if i loose one or two. I would agree with the posters posting about getting some free samples though defo !!

I don't remember torics being that expensive. Don't they come 5 pr to a box. ?? You could always go with the permanent solution and get laser surgery. I kid. I kid.

I've worn glasses my whole life (48 now) and was only able to start wearing contacts after surgeries in 2003 and 2004. My optometrist told me that he, also a contact lens wearer, wears his contacts when swimming and water parking and that he just uses goggles. This worked great for me. Funny story though, we were at TL in August of 2006 and my son and I were riding Crush n' Gusher. I had my goggles in my hand as we rode down. We hit the bottom pool, the double tube flipped over and my son flew over the top of me and we both went under. I forgot to close my eyes and whoosh, lost my right contact lens. I spent the rest of the trip with only one lens. Lucky for my and the rest of my party was the fact that my left eye is much stronger and always has been than my right eye. I was able to walk around the next few days with only one lens. I didn't want to wear my glasses as I have no peripheral vision with the glasses. Yes I should have had a back up pair but I didn't.
