We don't talk about Animal Kingdom enough...

Is flights of wonder still going? We love that show. It's simple but for my family it is a must do. We also always try to get a second floor window seat at Yak andYeti so we can people watch while we eat. Even better if a parade comes by. We also spend a good bit of time looking at the tree. So many hidden animals and each family member has their own favorites. Gosh I miss it. Another year of rehabbing and hopefully one of my kids finishing school and maybe I'll be back.

True ... The lion king is an amazing show. And it saved my afternoon when we had nothing left to do. But it and Safari aren't really repeatable ... They can only be done once every year/two years IMO.
I, along with many others, feel that the safari is very re-rideable and is a different experience each ride. I can spend several days in AK and never see enough of it. I on the other hand only go to Epcot to eat. The attractions no longer excite me. So everybody differs.

If you haven't done the Safari in the evening, it's an entirely different experience. I've done the Safari every time I've visited, and this was the first time I've seen things like lions leaping from rock to rock, hyenas romping and playing, and the white rhino being active. Hippos walking around and splashing in the water. A huge difference from a mid-day 90-degree visit.

AK is running through some changes. James Cameron agreeing to put Avatarland in is no small feat. He will demand high expectations and Disney will deliver on those. River of Lights is delayed, but it will come at some point. Getting rid of the Jammin Jungle Parade was a mistake. I can understand something getting "old", but it was my favorite parade. Now, if they wanted to replace it with Tapestry of Nations...well that is a whole new ball game. That was one of the best parades in Disney ever. They do need a parade and it would be hard to raise the bar of MJJP.

Thank you for your well argued post.

My ultimate point was that Animal Kingdom should be much more of a priority from enhancement than Epcot which I think is just fine. Not amazing but fine.

But once you've gone to animal kingdom a couple times and know it well . There isn't much to do.
Besides the work being done at DHS, AK is the park getting the highest priority of enhancement. If you only like riding the safari once then you will be happy to know that the nighttime safari truly is a different experience. The addition of Pandora will be adding 2 more rides to the park and there still is ROL which should be opening soon. Having later park hours also changes the dynamic of the jungle trek and pangani trail. Tigers and gorillas are very active at the end of their days. In the end AK is truly about the animals, not the rides, and if you aren't excited to see animals then AK will never be a full day park for you, and that's just fine. MK will never be a full day park for me unless I bring my nieces and nephews, lol.

I think AK is such a well balanced park and to make a park feel rugged, natural and organic whilst also entertaining for all age groups is difficult. The safari is one of the most re-rideable attractions across all of the parks, no scripts on the animals so you never really can guarantee what you will see. It is a beautiful place to walk around, the centre HUB is eye-catching and the buildings especially the marketplace are so realistic and ooze the stereotypical Disney attention to detail. I am not a massive Avatar fan but I think it will be a very good land with two more new rides at least to go on, most other parks don't get new rides lets not forget, it is usually one for one. The only thing I would change would be the ropey circus bit in Dinoland as I think making that area into a more factual Dinosaur area with different rides and exhibits would be really good. Maybe even put some more animals there that were alive or very close descendants of Dinosaurs. But for me as it stands MK and AK should not be the priority when it comes to updating.

Well, while I don't really go to Animal Kingdom, I was excited to see their brand new night show this December, but apparently they keep cutting back the hours it will be open at night, so I guess there won't be a night show this December?

Rivers of Light will open sometime - Disney is just not saying when. When it does open, those evening hours will be extended immediately.

Oh it's one of these threads again.

This was my exact thought "Oh look, someone else complaining about a park" It's quite sad that it seems to be the tone of an overwhelming majority of threads. I got excited when I read the title- thought it might be about attractions, strategies, food etc.lol

I think if you come from an area that doesnt have a zoo, it may be more exciting. But here in New Orleans, we have an incredible zoo, so I dont feel like I need to spend as much time in the animal exhibits. I do love the safari though. And the petting zoo actually bc I think goats are awesome.
Agree with this. We are Zoo members and love our local zoo, so the animals are cool but not the most exciting. Everest is a huge draw for me, I also like the atmosphere and the food. If we were on a short trip it would be the one park to get "cut", not because I think it's a bad park, just love the others more.

This is the one park I have difficulty with in the summer months. Not sure why the humidity gets to me more at AK than the others but it does.
Not being a nature person or outdoors person or big into animals AK is never on my have to list except for a few things...like the food. The food is good at AK. The music is good. Lion King show still makes my heart feel big. And even though I am not big into the animals I still like the Safari. But only if I can ride in front. I thoroughly enjoyed the Jungle Book show this past summer and loved the awakening stuff on the tree.
I can't get love going for EE although I did finally start riding it on the occasional visit. The dinosaur area I am not into although when the grandson was little I didn't mind hanging in the bone yard with him for a while. Oh I have a new grandson who is just about old enough to enjoy the boneyard so I guess I will get renew some visits to that attraction.
And the shopping. I like the shopping.
And maybe I am just old and slow but it takes me about 6 hours to do what I want to do at this place which is pretty much same as the other parks for me. I am done anywhere after 6 hours.

The high tree line and vegetation cut the air movement to near zero.

Brought my girlfriend to Disney 2 years ago. It was her first time there and her favorite park was AK. She loved all the animals! DINOSAUR is now her favorite ride. It helps she HATES roller coasters and LOVES animals. AK was made for her haha:joyfull:
