Howdy! I just thought I would post this thread since I was just sparked by a bit of interesting information I received.
I talked to Guest Relations, asking about the seasonal operation of Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress. Of course, the future dates of operation are never set in stone; however, I was quite astonished when they said the following:
"The Carousel of Progress is opened because of guest demand."
This takes me back all the way to October 22nd, 2001. I posted a message on WDWMagic in protest of the Carousel of Progress' closure (on the 21st). Just a couple weeks later, I open the Orlando Sentinel to find, on the front of Central Florida Business, a quote from that same post: "Protest! Let's make this bigger than toad."
This isn't the only time WDWMagic has been quoted in the papers. FantasiaBoi and Albert Falls (I believe) have both been quoted in the Orlando Sentinel for posts on WDWMagic - within the last month.
Both the papers AND the Walt Disney Company, therefore, are constantly reviewing our interests. Even an EPCOT manager quoted Mission: SPACE being "F-Ticket" in a recent interview, based on a post by a Walt Disney World Magic member.
In the case of the Carousel of Progress, Disney seems to be actually listening to our posts and caring for our feelings. Perhaps the "demand" they receive is given at the parks. Or, as "an internet user" was quoted in the papers, they're actually reading the website posts. This attraction, in particular, is celebrated in thread after thread - with deep concern growing from thousands of members on the forums.
But what does this mean? It means that WDWMagic isn't only a wonderful place to discuss the magic of the Walt Disney World resort - but it's a place to let our opinions and truly heart-felt ideas out so that they may be heard by all the world. Never become hestitant - because, if it weren't by many of the posts on this website, who knows? Perhaps the Carousel of Progress wouldn't even be seasonal.
We CAN make a difference.
Thank you Steve, the moderators, and all* of the posters of WDWMagic for creating such a wonderful community.
* = Well, except maybe a few trolls ...
