I deceided to pull this list from the Haunted Mansion refurb topic in order to keep that area open for news/rumors, etc. in regards to the refurb itself.

Here is my own personal Wish List for the HM upcoming refurb. I am very interested to hear everyone's ideas and dreams for our beloved Mansion's rebirth!

I think we can all safely agree that the areas/scenes of improvement need/should include:

The Stretching Rooms: The illusion is diminished by the visible track marks that are now clearly visible behind the "wallpaper".

The Loading Area: Not much to add, just some TLC.

The Entryway: Sometimes I can see the floating candelabra, but most times, it’s nearly invisible.

The Main Stairway: This area SURELY needs some updating! There is plenty of room/opportunity to add some WOW effects, and PLEASE, lets us REIMAGINE those AWFUL rubber spiders!:snore: Imagine spiders that MOVE toward the doombuggies! ANYTHING is better than those Dollar Tree toys we are forced to endure in the present!

The Endless Hallway: Something could be done to spice this up. I think everyone knows how this once effective effect is managed. Also, this doombuggie spin-around is very rough and jerky. A smooth transition and better lighting would be a perfect cleanup for me!

The Hallway of Doors: This scene is an absolute classic, but the WOW factor has certainly aged into oblivion. How awesome would it be if some sort of surprise effect was added to spruce this experience up a bit! Like, for example, a door that actually opens, revealing some spooky new AA! Also, ancient, red-eyed crow....please give way to one of your modern, realistic-looking AA brothers!

Séance Circle: Yes, the Anaheim effects would be great here, but more than anything...PLEASE use black string for the instruments this time around!:dazzle:

The Ballroom: THE definitive scene of the entire attraction. I would hate to see something "cheap" happen here. Whatever rumored enhancement that was tossed around (I don't know the details) would be welcome, as long as it adds some WOW and keeps the original atmosphere of what is already in place.

The Attic: PLEASE add the Anaheim bride! PLEASE remove those carnivalesque heads! Those crappy (I can clearly see your pole) heads are by FAR THE least impressive effect in the history of ALL Disney Haunted Mansion attractions. And DON'T even get me started on that Party Store, glow-in-the-dark bride!:brick: The original bride (no face, glowing eyes) was BY FAR a much more effective and creepy creature than what haunts the joint these days. So, therefore, the mere addition of the bride/groom scene that takes place in DL would be a very welcome addition! (I think most of us agree on this. At least we can agree that this area needs some reworking!)

The Graveyard: Another definitive scene. If there is no major reworking of this area (like what was rumored) it at LEAST better receive its MUCH needed SCREEN tightening! That saggy old thing seems to droop more and more every day! Also, destroy the pop-up heads, enhance the sound and lighting, and please do something with the track! This is one of the roughest turn-a rounds in the entire Mansion.

The Hitchhiking Ghosts: Still a GRAND effect! It would be nice if they enhanced the visuals a bit. How creepy would it be if the hitchhikers actually turned their heads to view their fellow travelers!:lookaroun OOOO!

Little Leota: I never got this effect.  Why is she so small? Is she a doll? This area seems sort of vacant and dull. After the wonderful encounter with the hitchhiking ghosts, this finale has seemed a bit less-than-amazing. There isn’t much space, but I am sure those crafty Imagineers could cook up some lasting impression as you exit one of WDW's most beloved dark rides!

Gift Shop: Eh, I am indifferent on this one, though I do believe a nice array of classic and proper merchandise (NOTHING to do with the crapola movie) does have a willing and waiting public.

Okay, that’s enough for now. Any additions?:king:

I'll add to this list. Something I've seen countless members hope for that was not listed above. It should be narrated by Stitch.

That is pretty much a perfect reflection of my feelings on the attraction. It needs some serious updating. Special effects have come a long way since the 60's(?).

I agree with Just about everything said, but a few things more:

Constance in the attic is a must!

New hitchhiking effect!
Fixing the stage legs in the dining room
New Leota effect (from CALI)

While I'm all for most of the Anaheim upgrades, I'm completely against the new Constance bride and the wedding pictures. Not only does this change the intended vagueness of the bride's purpose (by making her into a homicidal killer), but I'm still not impressed by the video screen technology (could we put that in a few more attractions? Why don't we just make her interactive like Crush, while we're at it? Maybe say stupid things like, "Don't lose your head!") used for her, and it makes the attraction waaaay too morbid...which is saying something in an attraction based on morbidity (is this even a word? It works, though). I guess I just always preferred the "use your imagination to decide what's going on here" approach to the "turn off your imagination 'cuz we're gonna tell you what's going on here" one. A more fully animated AA for Constance would be great, but I'm just not happy with what they've created here at Disneyland. Hopefully you'll get something better.

I agree with all of you listed updates. My only question is I don't remember the proposed / scheduled dates for rehab. I thought I saw dates somewhere, but can't seem to remember. I'll be there Dec. 7-15.

You'll be okay then, Haunted Mansion reopens in September if I'm not mistaken (just in time for MNSSHP).

I like most of the things mentioned on that list except for the bride and corridor of doors. Part of the mystery of the corridor is to not know what's beyond the doors... I think one of them opening would kind of ruin that. I just wanted the lighting updated here, so I can actually see what's going on. Oh, and maybe that extending portrait that they have in Tokyo! As for the bride, I like the popups, they just need a little TLC so I can't see their pole and they should be changed to say "I Do!" so it has more relevance to the scene.

Just my 2 cents.

If they give the place a good spit and polish (and then a proper dusting after), fix up the audio, replace those ridiculous paper machie day-glo spiders, and make the Leota enhancements and I'm one happy camper.

Wow, that's quite a list. I remember my last visit to WDW Magic Kingdom and thinking how run down and tired most of the attractions looked, especially the classic E Tickets. And the Haunted Mansion was one of those Florida rides that just slapped you upside the head with its neglect and sorry condition compared to Disneyland. The clearly poor condition of audio, lighting, effects (or lack thereof), decay, wear n' tear, dirty scrims that were now a solid sheet of dust you couldn't see through, squeaky and jerky ride system performance, etc. all came together at the Haunted Mansion to scream "This ride hasn't been properly maintained in years!".

But that list makes it sound as if it's in even worse condition than I remembered. Like the sort of condition where the CM's shouldn't even be opening it for paying customers every morning.

Yeah they really should enhance the ballroom. The graveyard scene needs work too... it looks so fake, they need to make it more realistic.

Overall the haunted mansion needs a little more spooks, it is a haunted mansion afterall- and there isn't anything scary or creepy about it.

Is it just me, or are you bitter because you live so close to DL and feel the need to push its quaint charm over the massive glory of WDW?:dazzle: DL BETTER keep their classic attractions in primo condition because thats ALL THEY HAVE TO OFFER!:hammer: Yes, WDW's MK needs some TLC, but I'd take the entire resort over a few "charming" hundred acres any ol' day!

The post-stretch entrance hallway: I'd love to see a few windows with rain, lightning, etc. More furniture, some paintings, books. Make it look more like some room in a mansion and less like the somewhat featureless transition from preshow to ride that it is.

The music room: Instead of the shadow of a mechanical metal cut-out playing the piano, I'd put an animated projection (preferrably hand-drawn) with more dynamics and accuracy with regard to the notes being played.

Corridor of Doors: Add more variety to the cams which actuate the door knockers. They all seem to be "knock, knock, knock...pause...knock, knock, knock." More variety in the audio from behind the doors; keep the moans and groans but add some creepy spoken lines as well.

Popups: The head on a pole thing needs to go, replaced with full-sized, well articulated AAs.

Little Leota: At WDW, I don't think Constance should be the bride that she is at DL. I think she should be re-cast as Little Leota, retaining her size and demeanor. But a new script, obviously.

Umm, I think I've had this ride all wrong for years. I thought it was supposed to be kind of hokey and not actually "really" scary. I rode it by myself in September (first time in years!!!) and I do agree that it could use some house cleaning. The popping up heads do freak me out, I closed my eyes at this point (yep, I'm a big ol' chicken). But everything else was just so cool to look at. I don't do haunted houses anywhere else...too scared.

Cool thread, BTW.
