Quote from "The Mom"

I've given it a lot of thought, and I must insist that anyone under 21 who plans on attending MUST be accompanied by a parent! I would feel personally responsible if anything untoward should happen to any minor who attends. I would not let my daughter attend a meeting like this by herself, and so will not allow someone else's children to do so. Most attendees will be adults, and adult refreshments (for those who partake) will be served. I WILL check IDs at the door...anyone who has been posting or lurking here for any amount of time knows that I mean it!!

ok----------

Now dont get mad, but i have a simple question.
Your going to have the meet where they serve drinks and you know teens and kids are going, why not meet at a ride or something??? Im so confused.

Cam,

I don´t think Mom was specifically referring to "being in a bar" for a meet. I think, and it is my personal opinion, that it was a post concerning the fact of attending the gathering alone if being under 21.

I believe she also mentioned something in the original post about meeting at the parks at any other time, if minors are interested on going.

Don´t take this as being "selective", but since the ones who can really decide by themselves about going to WDW on that date for that porpuse are adults, it is only fair to have an adult gathering one night. If minors have convinced their parents to take them there, they can meet at the park too. She also mentioned something about meeting the parents given the case.

I´m thinking more than that, and I have the feeling that she is too... There could be the case that one minor tells his/her parents they are going to have something arranged for this website she/he has joined at WDW and go by his/herself.... if so, do not expect anyone on the forums to be responsible for any minor during their stay there.

I´m not sure if I´m making sense! I hope! :animwink:

How many minors are attending for real?

Yes, you are making sense but, why not do something EVERYONE can do, I hope in not sounding rude or anything but its unfair, no offense to the mom. ;) :) She has done a lot of hard work to make this possible.

The reason I made my statement is that I am PERSONALLY hosting a "party" for lack of a better word, in my BW villa. I'll be providing refreshments, but don't really want to "police" the guests. Also, I'm concerned about any liability (both mine and the Forum's)involved in bringing adult members into contact with minors...I know you all THINK you have good judgement, but I've been there (a teenager) and know that's not always true. Of course, I could move things to a more public place, and to daytime, but that would be more complicated for me...how could I ever get everyone to decide on a restaurant, etc? This way, everyone can relax, and sit and talk without some waiter glaring at us. Also, this way, everyone's wallet gets a little break!

Oh, and this is why the thread was closed...I knew I would start getting arguments about my decision! I don't know if the FAQ covers "restarting" a closed thread, but perhaps it should. I'm not angry at you . All I ask is that people respect my decision to not discuss it any further....I already know a lot of you won't like it!

;)

From the perspective of some one who couldnt come .........and a UK mum

You are totally right to say you cant have minors coming to adult parties .....after all its your party they could arrange a meet up of their own as you suggested.

You cant always depend on parents to say that this may be unsuitable and i must go with you .......

IN THE END YOU REALLY DONT KNOW EVERYONES PRIVATE BACKGROUND AND HAVING UNACCOMPANIED MINORS WOULD BE A BIT DANGEROUS.............NEED I SAY MORE

I will be a month away from being 18 when you guys meet. I won't be able to be there because I have other plans. But if I could, i would of dragged my parent along even without Mom's rule. There is no way that I would ever meet anyone from the internet, even from wdwmagic, unless I had a parent there. It's just too dangerous. Thanks for keeping us safe Mom!!!

ok enough with the caps, ok? I never said anything about Minors being able to go without an adult, I wouldnt go without an adult. My point was that maybe we should have it at a better location so everyone would have fun, but its not going to happen.
And tybroid, please read what I said before you post somthing unnecessary.:) Thanks.

As I posted earlier, I'm more than happy to arrange a meeting with others at one of the parks, preferably during daylight hours! Just send me a PM with suggestions!

There is a rumor that some of the younger members have vowed to drag me on ToT or Rnr! You might find that to be more fun than a cocktail type party! ;)

Oy...

You don't seem to understand though. It's a party SHE is hosting. SHE has chosen where and when. It's in HER villa. It's not a meet and greet but a party. Why does she need to make it to accomidate every person on the boards? Those who can make it, can make it....those who can't, can't. If Mom had intended on it being directly in the parks then she would have done so. If I were throwing a party at MY house this weekend would you be complaining that you couldn't make it? Or that it isn't the sort of place you would want to meet people? NO because its my own personal party. I don't know if I'm making any sense...I'm just trying to get what I and everyone else has said to sink in...

Motel 9!

Remember Marcia...I'm having my meet at the Motel 9!

Anyone else interested?

BTW...has anyone check Florida liability statutes? I'm not familiar with Florida law, but Mom, you might not be liable for the children if their parents allowed them to attend a party...or you could get technical and have everyone under 18 sign a waiver...but who wants to waste their time?

But, you guys...it's just a meet! If you can't make it, don't ruin the fun for everyone else! I'm not able to go, so that's why I'm planning my meet @ the Motel 9! ;) Not really, but if I did, only Sprite and Coke would be served.:)

Not to be pointing fingers, but just relax!

(1)(a) It is unlawful for any person to sell, give, serve, or permit to be served alcoholic beverages to a person under 21 years of age or to permit a person under 21 years of age to consume such beverages on the licensed premises. Anyone convicted of violation of the provisions hereof is guilty of a misdemeanor of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083.
<-- That's from Florida Law Title XXXIV, Chapter 562, Beverage Law: Enforcement.

Marcia is within her rights to serve alcohol at her party, just as long as anyone under 21 isn't served, selling, or serving alcohol.

I'm sure we can see pictures! :D :lookaroun
