WDW Without Kids

There's a subform for WDW With Kids but I haven't seen threads for trip-planning without them! After searching for a bit, i wasn't able to find a similar thread, which I'm sure is a mistake. This seems like a popular topic. But alas, I'm here! I'm going for it!

What are your favorite things to do without children at the parks? Favorite alcoholic beverages around the parks? Best resorts to go to without children? Any quiet or romantic events/activites around Disney grounds? Romantic dinners? Nice quiet spots for sitting with your special someone?

I'll start :

  • My favorite drink : Mojito at the Polynesian Resort's Trader Sam's Tiki Terrace. I tried to get into Trader Sam's but there was a 30 minute wait and the host suggested going downstairs to the Tiki Terrace. No wait, beautiful evening with beautiful weather, and some live acoustic music! Best of all, the mojito was stellar. It was a nice, romantic setting for me and my guy before our dinner reservations upstairs.
  • Fun activity : Jellyrolls. I've been to Jellyrolls twice and it is a roaring good time. Despite the cover charge and the expensive drinks, I always have a lot of fun.
  • Most romantic meal : Ohana, seated near the windows, during Wishes. PERFECTION

*Just to clarify, we're just looking to collect ideas for adult activities or tips for adults that are visiting the parks. It doesn't have to be romantic or activities to do with your partner. Just anything you would prefer to do without your children, or what children are not legally permitted to do :)

We have been going to WDW for 30+ years without children. Probably our favorite thing to do is go resort hopping, which we do every trip. We like to explore the resorts and try the resort restaurants.
One thing we do is what we call dessert hopping. We will go to several different restaurants and have appetizers and or desserts instead of a full meal. That way you can try several different places in a single day, or try several things at the same place.
We don't drink, so we usually skip the lounges, but sometimes will try them just for their appetizers.
Now that I can't eat sweets anymore, I focus more on appetizers, but will take a small taste of whatever my wife is enjoying.
We also enjoy just riding the boats, and just about every trip we will drive over to take the boat from POR to DS, and usually will do the boat ride from WL to MK, then take the boat to Poly and back.
Strolling around the Boardwalk area is fun too.
We also like to ride bicycles around FW and over to WL and back. We have also biked from SSR to OKW and over by the Treehouses too.
Of course, my wife insists we visit all the area outlet malls too, and I have learned to tolerate that day as well because it makes her happy. Now, we drive, so that makes it easier. We also visit SeaWorld and Uni at least every other trip, but we go twice a year. My wife goes three time per year because she and her sister do the princess half-marathon with a group of friends, but that is a girls only trip.

Another thing we like to do is find different places outside the parks to view the fireworks on non- park days.
We also enjoy going to the different resorts and watching the outdoor movie that most resorts have just about every night, weather permitting.
And the absolute, number one best thing we have ever done to enjoy WDW the best? Slow down and just enjoy the experience. We quit rushing years ago and it changes everything for the better.

Before kids, my husband and I frequently did these things:
1. Immature adult recreation - Around the world at Epcot
2. Mojitos and romantical dinners at Bongos
3. Cuddling on a beach and watching the Electrical water pageant
4. Shop til you drop - Downtown Disney
5. Shop til you drop - monorail resort hop

La Cava at Epcot (Mexico) for margaritas
More expensive dining options that you would not take kids to (signatures or things that are not appealing to them)
Flower and Garden and Food and Wine food booths- eat your way around
Resort hopping
Stay out until 3 am :)

I go to Disney atleast once a year and we have no kids. it's arguably more fun as an adult without kids. For starters you're unbelievably efficient inside the parks with just adults. There's nothing to slow you down or to throw your planning off. My recommendations of its affordable is to stay at the YC/BC. Reason being is that I highly recommend doing a good amount of your nights at Epcot. The restaurants in Epcot are great. I highly recommend the majority of them as a nice sit down dinner or lunch with you and your significant other. The convenience back to your resort can't be beat. Am added great part to staying at the BC is if you choose you only have to take the bus to AK of the 4 major parks. For instance we stayed at the BC for a week. We ended 4 of the nights at Epcot and 3 at MK. We did 2 MK days and 2 Epcot days. We did AK twice but left to Epcot and MK after 1/2 days at AK. And the HS day we ended at Epcot. We did nice dinners every Epcot night and did a nice dinner at the bay lake resort restaurants our MK nights. One of the best parts about Epcot as an adult is you can ride rides in the morning. Ride everything you want from 9am until you did everything you want to. Then head back to world showcase. At that point you are relaxing. Grab a drink in the countries, stroll through the shops, try some food etc. these are the things that kids do not like to do, so take advantage of it when not there.

We have done multiple trips without kids; in fact, our kids are grown and we have grandchildren. One of our very favorite things to do is view Illuminations with coffee and french pastries and while the crowds rush for the exit after Illuminations, we sit in the World Showcase and just enjoy the end of the day at Epcot. We take a leisurely walk to the bus stop and by the time we get there, most of the lines are gone.

The most important thing to remember about WDW without children is slow down and enjoy. You're on no ones time table but your own!

I do about half my trips without kids (going w/ kids now is just my granddaughter or when my youngest sister comes down with her daughter) My own are 26 and 32 now. We've been going to wdw since Oct 1972. We like riding whatever we want and skipping whatever we often "have" to do with kids in tow. We take time to do either a sit down breakfast or lunch then a nice dinner. We enjoy hitting the lounges. We often go in the fall during f&w so we book things like the specialty dinners, lunches, and last year, for instance, we did the burger party. Things we just wouldn't take kids to. If we go in the hotter months we take a mid day break at the pool and pool bar or sometimes we even just take a nap so we can go go go late lol.

My DW and I are in our mid-late 20s and don't have kids and don't plan on having kids. We like to go at our own pace, drink around the world, do the monorail resort crawl, resort hop in general, eat at signature restaurants, and just do what we want without worrying about what other people (including tiny people!) want. On our next trip we're probably doing all of the above (or not, if we change our minds-because we can do that without kids!).

We like to do mini-golf and just leisurely take in the parks. And enjoy good food, like California Grille or even just snacking around World Showcase.

Our boys are grown, so DH and I are enjoying the World by taking the time to really notice small details and just enjoying being there- and we don't rush around like when the kids were with us. We like to resort hop and check out the decorations during holidays, and we are trying out new places to eat. We take more breaks to just sit and listen or look, and we always eat at Cosmic Ray's at least one night to watch his show.

Since we are in no hurry to get kids back to the hotel when the MK closes, we share an ice cream sandwich or get hot dogs while waiting for the Goodnight Kiss. At Epcot, we buy snacks from the Kringla bakery (love the sweet pretzel with almond!) and eat it while we take our time heading to the exit, lingering around the fountain and the lights in the sidewalk by SE.

And, we talk about what it will be like to have grandkids and bring them to the park!

What is the Monorail Resort Crawl?? Where can I find a map/instructions??
