Have a "Hakuna Matata day" aka "Disney day" basically you plan a day with your group, family, loved one etc etc that begins when you wake and is filled with activities and food until your ready to go to bed the only rule is there are no worries so you can't sweat the small stuff just brush it off your shoulder.
For instance start by making a Disney themed breakfast with Mickey waffles (you can find a Mickey waffle maker anywhere) or go easy and make Mickey head shaped pancakes with eggs and whatever else. Then go on your planned adventure which should consist of places in and around your area that remind you of places and experiences in Walt Disney World it can be anything like the Zoo, or a local attraction, even going to the Movies or seeing Disney on Ice works. Have snacks packed for your day (you can find Disney themed items online and at many stores) or just have things that you would have while touring the parks. Once your activity is over plan a dinner at a restaurant that is special to you that is indicative of one of your favorite places in the World or make a meal at home (I have found many favorite recipes of meals I had on the web and in Disney cookbooks). Then pop in a movie (or Disney planing DVD) and relax while planning you next trip to WDW. Its a lot of fun and doesn't have to cost a lot of money and at the end of the day you will know you had a great time in your back yard without having to fork over the time and money a trip to the World ensues.

For me I try to compensate by doing other theme parks in between Disney trips. I have done things that are within driving distance for us: Darien Lake, Cedar Point, Kennywood, King's Island, etc. No, they aren't a Disney Park, but you at least get to scratch your theme park itch with them. You can't help but think of Disney at the same time. Kennywood, Cedar Point and King's Island all have a train ride that goes around part of the park but it just isn't the same if it doesn't go around the entire thing in a circle.

The best is going to these parks knowing you are doing a Disney trip shortly after.

I can somewhat sympathize with the OP. It's time for my wife and I to start our family but we can't help but feel a little bummed out that a future Disney trip is probably going to have to go on the back burner for a while. We just don't think it would be as enjoyable not being able to do everything while she is pregnant. We are the hardcore open to close do it all type since we don't have the luxury of visiting more than once a year or so. We also don't think carting a baby around WDW and changing diapers looks like a ton of fun and asking someone to babysit that long seems like too much of an imposition. Throw in the fact that she is a teacher and our situation becomes even more limited. But, as the Great Gonzo once said, I'm going to go back there someday.

Glad you're back on track! Hate it when those kids get in the way of a good ole' WDW vacay ;) Just joking! I think you will find that (1) you were very wise to not take a newborn to WDW in August. When you go, you will see people with their newborns and you will take pity on them. And, (2) you will see Disney through an entirely new perspective with a little one. When my DH and I went for the first time after having our daughter, we essentially spent the whole trip dreaming of all of the fun things we would do with her there as she got older! It was like a completely new experience for me again!
