WDW With an Infant

We are planning to go back to WDW in 5/11 to re-do the trip I had to cancel last year due to my hospitalization. This time, for the first time!- We will be bringing our DD, who will be turning 1 yr. old while we are there!

Obviously, this trip is a little more for us than for her, but I am just wondering- Do you think she will even enjoy it? Are there attractions we can take her on? I have been to WDW about 9 or 10 times, but never with an infant of my own, and when I did have a baby with me, it was a younger sibling, so I don't remember a lot of what she could/couldn't do.

Any thoughts/ideas are appreciated.

There are definitely attractions you can take her on..Small World immediately comes to mind...the parks are so visually stimulating you will just melt seeing the awe in her eyes. Glad you're getting the chance to go!

My twin boys are now 3, and they've been to Disney 5 times.

5 months
11 months
1 year 7 months
2 years 7 months
3 years 7 months

Those 1st two trips with them were as great as the most recent ones. Sure, they can't do the big rides, but they can do Peter Pan, Pooh, It's A Small World, Jungle Cruise, Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Snow White, Dumbo, etc. We have lots of pics from their first 2 trips, and they're smiling in just about all of them.

The number one thing to realize is that you will be on your daughters schedule not yours. Do not plan on hitting the parks commando style. Slow things down a bit, take time for naps and just enjoy yourself. My youngest daughters first trip was at 10 days old and she was able to go on a considerable number of attractions.....pretty much everything without a height restriction.

I always laugh at how with my first, we were holed up in the house for the first 2 months. The second was at the mall, supermarket, etc. at a week. My doctor said we could take the infants out "anywhere the air is fresh". What better place than Disney! :D

Yeah, things do change from child to child. My youngest was #3 and as you might expect the number of precautions we took with her were considerably less than the other 2 and she has been the healthiest and most easy going of all 3 by far.

We took both of ours kids at 9 months and they both loved it. On my oldest's first day we had just gotten hard cider from England when the big red bus full of characters arrived at the entance to WS. We tore down there, sloshing cider all the way and got great pics with the characters. After, we went to China where we have the greatest pic of him lounging in his stroller w/ his feet up, and a huge smile.

On my youngest's first day we got some food at the US QS, she's sitting there with the biggest smile on her face.

We found they enjoyed the family time and they could feel our happiness.

Enjoy it, it's a great time when they're so little!

I read somewhere that parents that clean less have healthier kids - more exposure to dust and germs makes them build their own antibodies. Pretty sure I actually read that, and didn't make it up, but either way - I find it's words to love by - anything to not have to dust! :D

We took our daughter at 18 months for her first visit and my son when he was 8 months old for his first visit. We went from rope drop to the end of the fireworks at night and have great memories/photos of all trips with them at that age. If they were tired, they slept in our stroller. I especially love the photo we have of my daughter with Chip and Dale fussing over her and Dreamfinder and Figment playing with my son. There are plenty of rides that you can take your baby on.

Well if that is the case my kids should be impervious to any disease.

We took our twins at 10 months; and had our then 8 year old son with us but also invited two godmothers with us so we were four adults to the twins. They had a blast. We had our own stroller so they slept when they wanted too and definitely took afternoon breaks all the time. That trip we stayed at the contemporary for the ease of the monorail instead of at our DVC home Boardwalk. We took wtih us the infant cariers that we wore that allowed us to sit on rides with them facing forward. I remember how much they enjoyed Kilamanjaro safaris seeing animals up close.

And when they were napping we used the kid swop and rode other rides with our older son. We got great pictures and they and we had fun. But do take it slow, the last thing you want is a cranky baby!

Took my boy last year for his first birthday, was pretty good, a lot of trips to the baby care centers in the parks for "baby" needs, my wife spent a lot of time there with him for food and milk/formula. he was walking at 9 months so he was able to run around but We just returned last week from this years trip and would say 2 years old is sooo much better than one. What a difference in the way he saw Disney, had a little more fear on some rides until he realized it was okay. have fun, take it slow and dont expect to see and do as much as before baby was with you, character breakfast's are also great!!! Also dont be surprised if your baby is amazed by something completely weird, my son last year kept stopping to look at drains around Cinderellas Castle or a fence, etc. etc.

My friend took her baby there at 4 days old----and here at 5 months later, he's been there more times than I have! We went with them over the summer, when he was 5 weeks old, and it was so cool to see the parks with him---he was amazed by everything! You'd be surprised at the number of things you can bring infants on, and the number of things they love (and be amazed at what they can sleep through!) The baby swap is great, as are the baby care centers. Go and have fun!

DD was there at 10 months old. Was a preemie - and the dr gave us clearance to be with people on April 1st, we were at disney on the 26th! Wasted no time. She is now 5 and has been there about 10 times. Funny thing is we started her napping in the most unusual places, and at 5 she still naps there.....Train in MK, Monorail at Epcot or under the umbrellas by the Odessy between Future World and the countries, the train to Rafiki at AK, but no where special at DHS. Very rarely have we gone back to the hotel for naps. As someone else mentioned - you will be on their schedule not your own....which is fine, you make it work. Enjoy and take lots of pictures and videos, and she will be sure to love them when she's a bit older.
