WDW trip without MK?

Now Idk you or anything about you but why do you need a day off on a 5 day trip? WDW is not the same without a trip to MK IMO.

This.
Also, We did a 14 day trip without a day off... we're hardcore.

I couldn't go to Disney and not go the MK... that's crazy!

I could never miss a day in MK! Or any of the other WDW parks for that matter. I usually go for 14 days too, and don't take a day off. Living so far away from the US and having to save so long to go there, I'm not going to miss a single day there. I can rest another time :king:

I take one of my sons for a three-day, non-hopper WDW vacation each year. In 2009, when Space Mountain was down for a refurb, middle son decided to skip the MK. I, too, couldn't imagine a WDW trip without hitting the MK, but I didn't want to override his choices.

So, I figured out how to make it work: On the day we spent at AK, we drove to the Polynesian at night and watched Wishes from the beach.

A day off from vacation? I say skip the day off, you have plenty of time to relax when you get home, and go to the MK.

That's just my opinion. If you guys really don't want to go to the MK, then you don't have to go.

I dont think its too crazy to skip it, especially since they are adding to it right now. Go to MK next time and enjoy it when the additions are complete.

The result is that we're looking at a trip to WDW without going into the MK. Obviously, this seems bordering on blasphemous, but after going there every year, it seems like it's not worth taking an entire day out of our schedule when we have priorities elsewhere. I guess I'm wondering just how bad this is going to hurt, though.

Anyone else ever tried this, or are we just crazy? :ROFLOL:

Sure it might sound crazy, but if it's not worth it to you, then there is your answer. It's your vacation anyways, do what you want. I have been to Disney dozens of times over the years and there are times where we have skipped a park, it really isn't the end of the world. I've never skipped on MK though, that's my favorite. If I go to Disney and don't ride Pirates I am nto going to be in a good mood, but that's me. I can skip It's A Small World though. I've been there enough where we do MK in half a day. Being that you are going between Christmas and New Years that might be difficult.

That's not a bad idea. Disney is the kind of vacation where you can come home more tired than when you left. It's happened to me before. I've learned to take it slow, or stick a day off in between. Hit a water park if it's not the winter, or head over to Downtown DIsney or something.

I go there the same timeframe each year, but do it with a group of teenage boys there for a baseball tournament. We typically skip the MK except maybe just to go there for the fireworks at night. Not much else there to interest them most of the time. They would rather spend the time at other parks with rides more for them or back at the hotel. I do recommend doing the midnight fireworks on 12/30. Same show and 1/4 the crowd as the next night. Easy enough to move about with park hoppers and just do what you want.

So the consensus is that we're crazy, huh? I'm jealous of all you United Kingdomites (British?), and your 2-week long visits. This trip is going to be wedged between a family visit to Alabama for Christmas, and when school starts again after the New Year, so time is a bit short.

Totally agree. On our next trip, we are skipping MK until the construction is over. We will still, however, watch the fireworks from the beach at the poly. Just need to take a break from those crowds and the crazy transportation issues there for awhile.

I think we were going to do just that! We don't know whether we'll watch the fireworks from the Poly, or from the roof of Bay Lake Tower (where we're staying), but that may be our way of getting our MK fix if no other plans present themselves.

Going to WDW and skipping MK....I really can't imagine that. Kill the day off and go to MK, you can relax anytime!

Very good point... unfortunately, the day off was a compromise with someone that didn't want to go in ANY of the parks () in favor of a nice, restful, Christmas vacation. And with crowds being how they are going to be, I can't say I really blame them. :D

Exactly! We're more sort of the easy-going park types; going to the parks morning to closing every day isn't really our style. (To tell the truth, we've never even woken up in time for a rope drop. :lookaroun) We're fans of the water parks, but I think December may be a bit chilly for that, so I think we'll use the off day to check out the decorations of some of the resort hotels. The Grand Floridian and its full-scale Gingerbread House, and the Beach Club with its chocolate carousel are some of our favorites.

I would skip Sea World or the day off before skipping Magic Kingdom.

Fair point... but we have one more day we have to use on our Annual Passes before we break even over the cost of the tickets, so SeaWorld it is!

Plus, the lengths that park goes to present itself for Christmas borders on insanity. Polar Express makeover of Wild Arctic, the Sea of Trees, the decorated Mediterranean village, the Christmas-themed Seymore and Clyde, an outdoor ice-skating show (in Florida!!), the amazing fireworks and fountains show (where you can keep the exact same seats used for the ice skating show)... the list goes on and on.

One whole day spent at Epcot JUST to eat at SAI?

I think I'd go to MK then eat at Taco Bell instead.

Well every year, we pick a restaurant off our dining wish list to eat at that we've never eaten at before, and this year we were feeling something World Showcase. Plus, we never really turn down a chance to visit Epcot anyway.

The Mystery Fun House was the best. I miss it. Wish I could take my kids there.

Why in the world did they tear that down? It was at least as good as Ripley's or the Upside Down House in Orlando. I remember going there in 1991, 1993, 1995 and I think by 1997 it was shut down. Does anyone remember why?

MK is a must for my trips. Have to walk down Main Street and see the castle. If I want a day off, I can stay home and relax. If I'm on a trip, I want to see and do everything. Relaxing vacations is not why I go to DW. Also can't imagine not doing the park hopper. I know it is cheaper, but I can't imagine staying in one park all day.
