WDW Tours

With all of the different tours at WDW I was wondering which ones are the best? I would like to do one at each of the parks. I have never been on a tour before. We are considering Keys of the Kingdom, Dolphins in Depth, Backstage Safari. Are there others better then these?

I haven't done any that you've mentioned but I will tell you this:
The Segway Tour is one of the most awesome things I've ever done - and my friend agreed! I can't wait to go on it again!!

The Keys to the Kingdom is amazing. I did a few years ago and it was one of the best things I've ever experienced at Disney. For people like us, the people who want to know everything and anything, its great. Its full of so much information, that you'll be frustrated trying to recall it all, trying to tell your friends and family all your annoying "did you know.."s you learned. A tour guide takes you up Main Street, through a few rides like HM and POTC, into the backstage parade area, and through the costuming and tunnel areas. Highly recommended for WDW fanatics.

Speaking of which, has anyone seen the ad for the Field Guide to Imagineering: Magic Kingdom book? It loooks like the tour in pocket sized book form. I can't wait for it, or the planned other volumes for the other parks.

Yes, I recently saw an ad in Disney Magazine for it. Looks very interesting!

On our last trip we did Keys of the Kingdom and Backstage Safari. Enjoyed both but Backstage Safari was the best. They say you will not see any animals but we saw many. We were so close to a giraffe that it reached over the fence and started nibbling on my wife's hair.

Keys of the Kingdom tells you many Disney secrets. What I enjoyed the most was getting on the rides and learning the rides history hidden Mickey were pointed out and lunch was provided (and great).

Is there a list of all the different tours and info posted here somewhere? We're in the planning stage for our next trip. Now that the kids are older, I can do stuff without them.

Meega, nala kwishta!
I've done quite a few of the tours over the years, but only one of the ones you are asking about, Backstage Saffari. And of the two available at AK, it is the better of the two IMHO. But if you want to know how and why Disney built AK the way it did, the second one, Wild by Design is still a very good tour.

I'd have to agree with hooch on the Segway tour at Epcot. Great tour, loads of fun, and no walking! We loved it so much last year, that we have already scheduled it for this years trip in October.

Other the other Epcot tour I'd recommend highly is the Gardens of the World tour. My wife is an avid gardener, so she loves that tour, but even I enjoyed it. We've done it three times now.

And if you want a comprehensive tour, do the Backstage Magic Tour. Yes it's $200 a person, but you do three parks (MK, EPCOT, and MGM). You get lunch. and it's very in depth behind the sceens stuff at all the workshops like Christmas Decorations, Animotronics, Metal, Wood, Floats, Costumes, Characters, and even the Utilidors. Plus behind a few of the shows and rides. It's an all day tour, so were comfortable shoes, your feet will love you for that. :)

If you have any questions on any of the other tours, I'd be happy to give my impressions. I've done the following: Backstage Safari, Wild By Design, Around the World on a Segway, Behind the Seeds, Gardens of the World, Hidden Treasures, Undiscovered Future World, BackStage Magic.

And if you're looking for a Dolphin swim, as much as I love Disney, I would sugest you look into Discovery Cove before you decide. It will eat up a whole day, versus the Disney tour, and cost a few $ more, but it will be worth every penny.

have fun!

I wanted to vouch for the Undiscovered Future World Tour. We went on this tour in 2002 and both my wife (first time WDWer) and myself (experienced WDWer) learned some things and had a blast. The experience changes, depending on your tour guide, but we really enjoyed exploring the Universe of Energy (actually walking on the show floor, for the 5 minute transition!), the VIP lounge at the Living Seas, and the 3rd floor to the Living with the Land attraction. We got to visit every pavilion except Spaceship Earth and Mission Space (which wasn't open), and part of backstage of World Showcase to boot.

I think the nice thing about this tour is it's reasonably priced, and won't take a whole day to do. We finished at lunch time and received a coupon for the restaurant in China.

Fun times!

I agree with that 100% we did the tour in 2003 and have to say (im not ageist) but the old buffer that showed us round was a numpty. We seemed to spend an awfull lot of times in areas that I could have and had visited without the expence of a tour.

That said when we got to other areas he handed us over to CMs who seemed to actually have a clue what they were on about. It was during this tour that we first got wind of the Segway tour, the way he talked it sounded like wed get a go, but no, another little piece of misdirection. oh and no one got the tile pin either.

That said I havnt been put off and will be taking the middle sak offspring on the Keys of the kingdom tour in a week or two. :)

Was it the guy who made you guess what he used to do before he retired? We had him. He was funny at times. But you are right, I was a bit disapointed in this tour. Alot that was on it was on stage stuff. And I can remeber back when you used to be able to get to top floor of the Imagination building.

But the real behind the sceens stuff was cool, and we took advantage of the discount for the China lunch, plus we got front of the line passes to Test Track.

But overall, we will not be doing this one a second time.

Hi

I would highly recommend the Segway tour I did it last September and it was one of the highlights of our trip. This year I plan on doing the Keys to the Kingdom Tour as well as the SCUBA Diving at the Living Seas.
