WDW ToT vs. DCA ToT

I'm going to tell you guys straight up front that no, I am not asking which is better. So you can put your Forum Search links away :p

I am asking which has better cpacity? WDW's has 4 shafts and two drop shafts and DCA has 3 drop shafts, but 2 cars for each shaft. Does MGM have multiple elevators for the 4 shafts... Or, in other words, which can have the most amount of cars on at a time?

DCA has better capacity. I have not worked out the math on it all (someone kill me if I ever do it) but I know that when ever a attraction is rebuilt they always make sure it has better capacity.

I've heard the DCA version is shorter in overall ride time. Is this true?

Well they cut the 5th dimension scene out of the DCA version, but they added a pretty cool disappearing guest effect in place of it, I beleive that DCA's because of this is shorter, but don't quote me on it because I'm not 100% sure.

Disney can have 3 trains running each on one track at a time, while DCA only has 2. AT MGM one can be on the story shaft, one in the 5th Dimension/Drop Shaft, and one unloading/proceding to load station. At DCA one can be in the regular shaft, while another is loading and unloading. Plus the DCA version has more fiberoptics spread around, and a neat lighting effect as your vehicle goes back into the shaft.

From what I've read about the WDW ride, there can be four vehicles in use per side. A possible set of positions would be one at load, one in the 5th Dimension, one exiting the drop shaft or at unload, and one moving back into a load shaft (or at least waiting to do so). There is room for a vehicle to wait between unload and the load shafts.

Yes, it's true that the DCA version can load more guests than the MGM version. If I remember correctly, there are six loading stations. Three above and three below.

However, even with the disappearing mirror effect, it just doesn't make up for the fifth dimension effect from the original. And the setting of the MGM ToT on the hill will all the lush greenery and then the dead garden around it adds to the theming effect. The DCA version seems like it was dropped into a corner of the park with no thought to theming. And of course, this is probably due to the fact that the DCA version doesn't have the space that the MGM one does.

The only thing these two have in common is the basic ride system. They are two very different rides, and just because DCA has more loading areas doesn't mean it has any added capacity. In fact, because of the different ride systems, they added these things to help make up for the difference. If you time it out, each door at DCA loads much less than at WDW. DCA's ToT does NOT have better capacity than WDW's, it's roughly 3/4 of what MGM's can handle.

No offense to anyone in particular, but we should all fact-check before we post, especially in a thread where someone is looking for a legitimate answer to a simple question. Assuming something has better capacity because it has more loading platforms isn't answering a question, it's assuming. Now let's all go have fun

Yes. That is true. Although the DCA verson has more loading stations, in my head I was calculating the wait times and you'e right. It all evens out. Call me crazy, but it felt like the wait time at DCA's ToT loading station seemed longer

But it's fine for what it is. But the DCA version, IMHO still doesn't hold a candle to the MGM version.
