Over here in the UK when someone says Florida, you think Disney.Yes I know there's much more to the sunshine state with Uni/IOA & Seaworld & Bush Gardens etc.But how would you sum up WDW to someone who has never been before..Is it just another Fun park or is it unique to itself.? When I tell any of my friends who have never been before that its 47 square miles, they are astonished its that big.So I tell them it's a place all of its own, with over 26 resorts, hundreds of restaurants, thousands of employes ( CM'S ) it even has its own dollar bills. They think I'am pulling their leg.So how would you explain what WDW is to those who have never been.?;)

I don't think you CAN explain it- it's one of those things you have to see to believe. Like yeah I know the Grand Canyon is big, but when you are standing on the edge it's like "Holy S#*T- that's BIG!!!" I think all people really have to do is try to plan a first trip- that pretty much covers it :)

"It was the best of times, it was the better of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of Fastpasses, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of NextGen, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Dole Whip, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of wrist bands, we had everything before us, we had FLE before us, we were all going direct to HM, we were all going direct the other way – in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest Brazilians insisted on its being received, for good or for Stitch, in the superlative degree of comparison only."

I find it's really tough to sway people's opinions...i.e. the "it's just another theme park"...without them actually experiencing it. Now, I do have friends who have been who still feel that way, and while I attribute some of it to them not giving an on site stay a chance, I think some of that boils down to "it's just not for everyone."

Funny that you bring up the beaches...until my parents moved to FL, our WDW trips were always split with beach time since my dad didn't want to devote our entire vacay to WDW. So, it was always a few days in the Orlando area and then a few days in places like Sanibel, Clearwater, etc.

We used to always take one day to drive to a beach while in Fla., but now find we prefer to either go all out beach, or all out WDW. Most years we do one of each.

I think much of this was b/c of how we'd spend our summers. While the Jersey shore isn't Sanibel island, we had a house down the shore and 90% of our summers were there...i.e. only so much beach and related things one family can take ;)

Since the people I talk to who haven't been to WDW yet fall into the age group of mid 20s to early 30s,who dont have children yet,I tend to focus on the thrill rides and classic rides like HM,Epcot and drinking around the world, some of the night spots at DTD and the Boardwalk, and the themes of the different resorts.

Everyone mistakes it for an amusement park...but it is much more. It is a state of mind...an escape into a magical world. You have practically everything...beaches, waterparks, restaurants, live entertainment, nightly fireworks, visual attractions, hidden wonders, beautiful resorts, and so much more.

The world is divided into two groups of people...those who get it and those who don't.

My Mom was in her 70s when she went for the lst time with us. She loved it and went many times after that. It's what a true vacation is.
