Did you book using a code? If you did, then probably all the rooms set aside for the code have been spoken for. Otherwise.. boy does that suck, because I'm gonna be there then and I don't want it to be crowded!

LOL. Beginning of January is the most populated time in WDW all year. Good luck. I know I'd never go during that time.

Starting to sound like it! We've been trying to book MLK day weekend since early December. Only thing we could find was the presidential suite at Wilderness and some of the concierge rooms at various other deluxe resorts. Nothing at the moderates, nothing at the values. Even had our CM friend that works in the travel co. help us out and she couldn't find us anything. She told us that a lot of Florida residents were booking rooms for that weekend since all the kids had a 3-day weekend with the holiday.

We ended up getting something off property, but it certainly looks like this is going to be a busy week at the world.

Why the crowds?

-The great savings from the new Magic Your Way ticketing for Florida Residents
-AP/Florida Resident discounts for Values, Moderates, and Select Deluxe Resorts
-Marathon
-The Land has closed
-MLK had a dream and so did Walt Disney?

I'm confused. I've always known this time of year to be THE LEAST crowded at WDW asside from anything related to the marathon. :brick:

Why would the value season be during a peak time??

Guide book after guide book will even tell you the begining of January through February is the least busy time in the parks.

Is this some sort of new phenomenon??? :veryconfu

Just went to the Disney site and tried again to book....found several rooms at Deluxes and Moderates available now......cancelations or Disney releasing more rooms?

I also always understood that this was the least busy time of year. Once the Christmas and New Years crowds go home, the parks are usually dead (or so my cm friends told me when I was a cp). This kinda surprises me. Either way, it doesn't affect me, as I have another 10 and a half months til I get to go back. But, it still surprises me.

I'm coming down for the first half of the week - Jan 9 through the 14th. Thinking of leaving on the 13th instead though to avoid the rush before MLK weekend. Had no trouble getting the $49 rate a Pop for those dates when I made my ressie a few weeks ago.

FYI

Jan 11-16 is the International Home Builders convention at the Orange County Convention Center.....it is attracting about 100,000 people, and most of Orlando is sold-out.....some groups with the convention are staying in Tampa due to lack of rooms in Orlando.

I also got that sweet $49 rate at POP for Jan. 7-15. :D

This whole crowd thing is really bothering me though. I booked this time of year because it is supposed to be DEAD! Now I'm finding all this out. I'm still excited but my visions of calm parks and short lines are turning into flashbacks of my trip back in June of 1994 when the World Cup was in Florida. :dazzle:

well i can say this much as an avid vistor of disney(going on 54 trip) i always go in jan. and never had a prob. in fact we even went on our honymoon in jan and it was wonderful few lines...just the newer ride and an extra wait about like 10 min which in my book isnt to bad.the only time i ever had a prob. was summer and the first week of dec. when pop warner was there and some 16 beat the ________ out of goofy...who in turn was a girl. so i would say dont even worry about it. your tirp will not be like you were going in the middle of june...mabye mlk day will be a little more crowed than usual but doubt it will be as bad as summer
