Did you book using a code? If you did, then probably all the rooms set aside for the code have been spoken for. Otherwise.. boy does that suck, because I'm gonna be there then and I don't want it to be crowded!

I know there's been discussion here before about how sometimes if you can play around with your dates, the day that was mysteriously unavailable suddenly is available. Some of the reservation dates are booked in "blocks" I guess?

Call back and see if they can try some different date combinations. I *think* you can always call back and take dates off once you've gotten the ones you need.

I'm guessing as well that the marathon runners may be staying on property (which is causing the small availability). My english teacher from college is actually participating in it (she is doing the half marathon).

I'll be there from the 8-15 of January. Being this is THE absolute least busy time of year I doubt ALL rooms on property are booked. It's possible the marathon crowds could be taking up alot of space but I doubt THAT many would extend to the day after the event. Did you try another of the hotels??

The Marathon doesn't really affect crowd levels at the parks (at least from what I've seen....only problem of course is traffic, took a good 1/2 hour - 45 minutes to get from AS Music to Epcot on a bus last year), so I wouldn't worry. :)

I think you're underestimating the size of the WDW Marathon/Half Marathon. I think they have over 40,000 runners in all. When you consider all the family members who come down to cheer the runners on, you're talking about a TON of people. And most runners will stay a day or two after the race to rest and recover a bit before heading home. I'm not sure how many of these runners will feel up to going to the parks the day after the race!

I did the half-marathon in 2003 and had a BLAST. I really want to do it again... I should probably start training NOW if I want to run it in 2006!

40,000? I think it's closer to half that - around 20,000 last year (full and half). Plus, not ALL those people will be staying on property - some are locals, some stay off property, etc.
I would guess that "sold out" means either that particular package/code was booked, or all of the comparable rates are booked (especially since they could offer you the more expensive rooms), or something like that. Whatever the reason, It certainly can't hurt to keep trying...

I've actually been during the event before. :p ;)

I know the majority of these people clear out after the event. Most only make a weekend or day out of the event because their holliday breaks have already ended by this time and they need to return to school or work. That's why I go that time of year. The crowds are non existant. :D

I think the number is probably closer to 35,000. I'm running the half, and I registered in August. My race number is between 29,000 and 30,000.

I didn't have any trouble getting a room, but I booked a week and then cut down to the dates I wanted. Keep in mind, too, that many of these folks are not going to stay in a WDW Resort, and they've got something like 30,000 rooms, no? I wonder if there's a rush of last-minute bookings.

I called back later last night and was told that there was no availibility at any resort wit the exception of a few of the suites. I was not booking with a code. What I was told is that the Martin Luther King weekend is going to be HUGE this year as far as attendance goes.

No mention of the marathon crowd was made as I was trying to book from the 13-15th of that week.

Long lines here we come!!

Using your dates I used the WDW booking engine and was offered only one choice...All-Star Sports at 87.07 a night!!! Can't believe they are so booked! Good Luck!

I'll be there!! I'm going for the Marathon weekend(my dad's running the half), and I am also going MLK weekend. I hope that the lines are short!

Maybe I'll see ya there!
