WDW Show Mid-Late 80s Disney Channel

Hi There,

I was thinking a little while ago about a show that used to come on the "Old School Disney Channel" back in the day. It was hosted by a fellow - whom I cannot remember his name - was rather tall and wore glasses, had a thick head of hair. You rarely see this guy anymore doing TV spots. The last time I seen him was either on a show on HGTV or an infomercial. Anyway I remember something about him being in a tunnel of some sort underneath Magic Kingdom. He was literally showing you places at WDW that you rarely get to see.

Gosh I miss the old Disney Channel. I hate the lineup they have now. I wish they would have like a Disney Classic channel where they run all the old stuff. I remember as a kid getting up early and watching Mousercise. I remember it used to come on like 6:00 am or 6:30 am. And then I would switch it over to Nickloden and watch Mr. Wizard's World at 6:30 am. TV has just gone straight into the toilet.

Yea, I remember what you're talking about. I remember the old school Disney music videos they would do. They would do popular hits and make them into music videos from old school Disney cartoons.

I believe what you're referring to wasn't actually a show, but a sort of filler inbetween shows. It was called "Around the World: Walt Disney World," hosted by Eric Boardman. Amongst the ones I was able to tape:
1. The Secret World of Walt Disney World - The one you're talking about featuring the Utilidors, the garbage system, etc. It was about 6 minutes long.
2. Hats - The various "hats" worn by cast members (and their jobs) and visitors around the Park,
3. One about the Parks after dark, which I believe focused more on Disneyland than Disney World.
I'm sure there were others, but I can't recall them at the moment.
I used to love the Disney Channel. The "Making of" specials for movies and attractions, Walt Disney World/Disneyland Inside Out, Walt Disney Presents, the original Mickey Mouse Club, and the lesser known Disney films and shows made this a channel I was constantly videotaping. Now, with junk like That's So Raven and Hanna Montana, I have about zero interest in the channel. Whenever a new movie or attraction comes out, I'll DVR the channel for about 6 hours, then hunt for the one minute nuggets of info about said movie or attraction. Otherwise, it may be a "fun" channel for kids, but it's no longer for everyone in the family. Bring back Vault Disney and then we'll talk.

I used to love it when I was home sick from school, I could watch the entire lineup on the Disney Channel. For years I had a crush on the woman (Holly) from Under the Umbrella Tree.

I remember around 5:00 pm or so The New Mickey Mouse Club - with Britney, Christina and Justin was on. I miss Kids Incorporated. I was watching a few episode clips from youtube, gosh that brings back memories.

There was a really neat intro lead-in clip that Disney Channel designed that had Mickey on top of Spaceship Earth. I thought that was cool.

Then at midnight or so they used to run Zorro and the 1950s version of Mickey Mouse Club.

Well, being thirteen years old, I have to dissagree with you on the whole, "TV going into the toilet" thing, since that's all I'm used to watching. :hammer:

Anyway, I've seen a few old things from way back then, but I hardly remember them. Luckily, Disney has the Toon Disney channel, which has old retired Disney shows (although I doubt any of the shows on there are the ones you used to watch). It used to have the Gummi Bears and I think Hello Kitty and Sonic the Hedgehog, but now it has shows like Recess, Lloyd in Space (sp?), and Filmore.

But I know what you mean. I remember there was this animatronic (forgot the robot's name) and he would tell you a few facts about Disney and stuff. It would air durring comercial breaks and I remember the theme being, "Imagineer that!" or something of that sort.

I miss it. Lots.

Kids Inc., Mickey Mouse Club, Zorro wasn't banished to only being at 1 or 2 in the morning and then dissapearing all together, Dumbo's Circus, Under the Umbrella Tree, The Not Quite Human movies, The Wuzzles, Poohs Corner, Inside Disney World shorts as well as Disney World Inside Out, The classic Disney channel was amazing, it was a pay channel and they never had to fight for ratings, people got it cause people loved it, now their shows are built to get ratings more than they are to immerse people in the Disney universe. However, is one any better than the other? While I miss the old shows and style, I do like some of the new ones. I just wish they'd throw some classic Zorro episodes on every once in a while.

If you are talking about those "shorts" with the guy and the couch, I found them on youtube not long ago. However, I can't find them now.

Its so funny i was just thinking about this the other day, i was watching the disney channel with my daughter who is addicted to Hannah Montanna. I remember, Mousercise, I loved DTV it was current songs with videos made out of disney cartoons. They used to show old disney movies and had cartoons that actually had Mickey, Minnie and the whole gang. I used to look forward to the new Disney Channel Guide every month to see what classic disney stuff would be on that month. Now you cant find that stuff on the Disney Channel at all. Its very sad. Luckily I have bought some of the Disney Treasures sets and a lot of the other classic disney movies & cartoons on DVD so my daughter can see them, she loves the old Mickey Mouse cartoons, the black & white ones!! If Disney is revamping its animation department they also need to think about revamping the Disney channel and put the "Disney" back in it.

The guy on the couch was part of the half-hour show Walt Disney World Inside Out. His name was Scott Herriott, and he only hosted it for the first season. When it returned the next season, it was hosted by J.D. Roth, Brianne Leary, and George Foreman. In all, I think it was on about five years. I wish they would bring that show back. Oh, wait. We've got the highly intellectual Disney 365 and Disney 411 now, instead. Yes, I'd much rather watch a one minute blurb about a new attraction while being forced to find out who Disney's latest "It" teen is.
Still, I guess they did do about a 9-minute BTS of "Ratatouille" about a week ago, even if it was broken up into 90 second segments during Raven and whatever else.

I remember that Disney would show all these great cartoons, and then in the afternoons they had the mickey mouse club with all the now rehabbed starlets, I use to love to watch that show because the town I lived in which is a small town between orlando and tampa, had a girl on the show I thin her name was Lindsey? Neways I miss those kind of shows, I remember that my mom wouldn't let me watch Nick, she thought the shows weren't as educational apparently, and I could seat there for hours and laugh at the gummi bears cartoons, etc. I miss these old shows but I mean some of the Disney Channel shows r ok I mean like Hannah Montana, I watch it when there is nothing on...but still:cry:

I used to watch the Disney Channel nonstop back in the day. I was in love with Zorro, and my mom and I would always watch episodes of the original Mickey Mouse Club together. The Wuzzles, DuckTales, Darkwing Duck, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers... Disney Afternoon was amazing. We used to watch every episode of WDW: Inside Out. I remember the episode where they sent a family around Epcot on a Hidden Mickey hunt. And George Foreman was hilarious.

I also loved Vault Disney and could not believe it when it was taken off. They had a week-long tribute to the Sherman Brothers. It was then that I discovered my favorite Disney movie - The Happiest Millionaire.

There's nothing like the original Disney Channel... :(
