Wdw Security

Secondly, if one had such bribing knowledge, I would be highly suspicious of the person who purveyed this information. As for the security guard, that’d be a breach of his contract with Disney and should be reported immediately. Of course, seeing as how all of the aforementioned facets were highly theoretical and thus exceedingly unlikely to happen, it essentially negates itself. Not to mention that even if the your example occured, the odds that a potential terrorist is on this forum - extracting this knowledge - is quite nil.

Huh?

Security is a big issue all over America. An attack on Disney would be very serious, as an attack ANYWHERE in the country. Since there are still security breaches at our largest airports (which are supposed to be very secure with Federal employees) I would find it very difficult for Disney to be able to provide the tightest security imaginable.

...and yes I was being sarcastic.

I'm not going to get in too big of an uproar over this. I definitely don't want to wait any longer to get into the parks. And if anybody really wants to attack anywhere, not just WDW it probably wouldn't be that difficult. This is scary, but it's not going to ruin my vacation, no sir. Security is in place to at the least, decrease the possibility of something happening. If they completely did away with it, then there would be numerous threads on this site wondering why WDW doesn't have some kind of security.

Hey NashMouse, James at Epcot was charging $10 the day I went. I feel like such a schmuck now!

Yeah, exactly. As I mentioned earlier, even if Disney had maximum security (thus increasing the wait times significantly), anyone who was determined enough could do whatever they wanted to do. This applies to any other location in the world. You can't go through like being afraid (well you can, but I'd feel very sorry for you).

I think Disney has found a very nice balance.

they did find a nice balance..

make the guests feel safe while doing very little to actually make them safer.

they've added 4 things... 2 of which are eye candy

1- More police presense on property. This does make me feel safer. In fact, I would be happy if Disney were to replace the entire Disney Security force with Orange/Osceola County Sheriffs Deputies, or even better.. if they started a RCPD.

2- Reinforced Barriers. These will keep any terrorist from blowing up their car TOO close to the parks. They're most noticeable at Epcot.

3- Bag Checks. Eye Candy and nothing more.

4- More security checkpoints on property. Also eye candy and nothing more.

Disney Security has a vote of no confidence from me... a vote they've had since before 9/11 and increased security across the US.

Without police power, if they find a person and attempt to detain them, all the person has to do is say "I'm leaving" and walk away. Disney Security CAN intimidate a person, and can call for police, but by the time the police would arrive, the person in question could be long gone.

The safest thing is to stay home, but thats not for me!! I go to Braves games all the time in Atlanta, the security there is worse and the crowds are more condensed. A bad event can take place anywhere, anytime but I'm not going to let them win! I also work on an Air Force base and that security is not what you would think it should be. What is the definition of safe?? That is a personal opinion, and I'm not even sure of the answer.

Do I feel safe at WDW? YES.
Do I keep an eye out for suspicious activities? YES
Do I let it ruin my family trip? NO

We still have to live day to day and not let THEM win
:) :)

That "eye-candy" can serve as a strong deterrent. Anyways, like I said, if one were determined enough, no amount of security will stop them.

Well, I have been VERY paranoid. I build this 6X6X6 room out of cynderblocks reinforced by lead beams and hydrogen foam. There is a shelf and a bucket inside the room for leisure. I put some wheels on it and am hitchin' it up to the truck. My wife will drive me down to Disney in April when we go.

mkt - you made some good points. Do you think there is more they can do? (you gave them a vote of "no confidence"). The barriers are good. I am not sure there is much more they can. Things that make large "booms" should be noticable if they were stashed in a purse. I feel pretty safe at WDW because I cannot picture what kind of terror they could cause on the parks that they could slip by even the briefest of security checks.

Lets NOT give anybody any ideas of what to do.\ by pointing out what holes there are.

"That’s ridiculous. I doubt that any terrorist is going to be surfing on Disney message boards with the intent of looking for topic threads that just so happen to be discussing the "holes" in Disney’s security."

I don't think any terrorist is getting any ideas about holes in security from these posts. Any two year old standing in the bag check line can see those holes.

I agree that the real security is the profiling (gee are we allowed to use that word?) and the presence of real cops both in uniform and those who look guests.

only a deterrent to lets say punk kids up to mischief ,not to anyone who has done any research and has planned something out...
you are right if someone really wants to do something no one can really stop them but that doesn't mean we have to make it EASY for them

You guys seem to be forgetting the time factor involved. Do you recall those long security lines at the airport? Good, now multiply that by a factor of thousands. If you don’t mind waiting 3 hours to get into a park, then great. Furthermore, it’s obvious the majority of Disney’s guests are good-natured people, seeing as how a catastrophe hasn't occurred yet. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Disney’s security checked suspicious bags more thoroughly than others (racial profiling being an example; which I’m completely for). Odds are a wheel chair bound, eighty year old woman has nothing to hide as opposed to someone of mid-eastern decent (potentially; albeit rarely).

RESPONSE TO THIS RIDICULOUS POST!:

TIMOTHY MCVAY WAS NT MIDDLE EASTERN NOR DID HE EVER "LOOK" LIKE A TERRORIST AS ONE OF MANY OF THE SURVIVORS OF THE OKLAHOMA CITY BOMBING WHAT THEIR OPINION ON THIS MATTER WOULD BE.....I BET IT WOULD BE RATHER DIFFERENT.......JUST BECAUSE THE ATTACKERS ON 9/11 WERE MIDDLE EASTERN DECENT DOES NOT MEAN THAT NEXT TIME...AND THERE WILL BE A NEXT TIME EVENTUALLY (GOD i PRAY NOT) THEY WILL BE RED HAIRED BLODDED AMERICANS, ETC?

We returned from a great vacation at Disney in December. Although there were lots of people at the park, security was not an issue. It took us less than 2 minutes to go thru a security check. The key was to have your backpack open and accessible.
Security poked thru with a wand and we were done. Nothing like airport security...take off your shoes, etc.

If Disney even hopes to get serious about security, the uniforms are the first thing that demand revision. Come on, bright yellow and red? Not very intimidating; no, not at all. If anything, these uniforms are inviting terrorists to launch an attack against Disney. The parks guards should be clad in black armor and helmets, wielding powerful rifles.

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about.

I presented my ideas to some Animal Kingdom security guards, and here's what happened to me:

So I should add that at least the guards at the hotels are well-attired.

That's exactly what I meant about not being able to tell. Although, please don't type all in caps, my head is hurting!
