I don't understand why it took them so long to catch up to these guys. They had originally given Disney a valid CC#. Why didn't Disney just charge back to the original card...or at the least track the number to find out the identity of the perpetrator.

Because the original CCs were stolen. Thats whats hinted at in the article.

The resorts used to charge your cc when you hit a certain threshold. I think it was $2k for deluxes. However, when we were there last week, they charged the card nightly. I found this out when I went to the front desk the day before checkout to ask them to apply my Disney Visa points balance before charging to the cc and discovered that the balance on the room at that time was less than $100. When I asked why it was so low, they explained that they now clear out the account daily. I imagine that this is one of the fixes to limit possible losses from a scam like this.

Can anyone confirm this is how they do it now? I used to pay with cash credit combo at the end of the stay, before they charged the CC. Has this been the case with anyone else?

We need time for things to happen.
I better not go to this cigar shop. I always try different type of cigars, I have no brand loyalty.

No it was the different brands of cigarettes that made him suspicious.
My guess is he was just buying tons of cigarettes and reselling them for cash.

I love how one of them figured it out during a legitamate vacation!?
He then decided to get his buddies in on this plan...

What a crew...what a crew...

I'm surprised these creepy looking dirt bags are even interested in anything "Disney" They look more the type to pull this scam off at some seedy hotel in Vegas

What a crew. Were these 3 knuckleheads going together?
I can't picture this team walking around WDW...:lookaroun

From what the article says there is more to this story, I don't know how they were getting away with this for 4 years in a row.

The cards had to be fraudulant....otherwise they would have caught up with them long ago..

Anyway I want to keep an eye on this story cuz I needz to know...:animwink:

I doubt that they went into the parks. They probably bought a whole bunch of stuff that could be sold on ebay and then drank and ate until they hit their limits. I would not doubt that the original cards they used to book the rooms were fraudulent, if they used their own cards, they would have been caught. Disney really should not be accepting pre-paid debit cards when booking rooms or adding them onto a yktw card.
