WDW Present for Mom Advice

Hello WDW Magic Forum!

So my family is headed to Disney for the first time in 12 years this April. My little sister (12) has never been, my other sister (22) hasn't been in 12 years and I haven't been in 7, so we're all pretty excited. The issue is my mother. She's not a theme park person, and after carting my sister and I to Disney 4 times when we were kids she really didn't think she'd ever be going back. But she IS going back (for us kids) and I want to do something special for her. Her 55th birthday is later this month, and I think it would be great if I gave her something fun and relaxing to do at WDW away from the parks and us kids.

She's a very particular person. She does not like massages (the easiest answer, I know) and she's not really a foodie. She's happiest when she's in her robe, drinking a Diet Coke. Her work is very stressful and I know a Disney vacation isn't the most relaxing trip you can take (understatement of the day) so I want to make sure I find something for her that is different than the hustle and bustle of the parks. Her favorite vacations are cruises, where she can just hang out on the deck with a book and suntan or hop down to the casino to play some slots.

So... do any WDW aficionados have any suggestions?? I would very much appreciate it!!! I've thought of things like hiring a private bungalow for the day somewhere on the resort but I can't find one anywhere...

If you can tell us which resort you'll be staying in, I'm sure the floodgates will open with suggestions. I know at the moderates like Carribean and Coronado there are some hammocks out by the lakes where I could spend the whole day people watching and having cool drinks if I weren't a park guy. Boardwalk has lots of shops to visit and so does Downtown Disney.

Alot of it depends on what resort you are staying at. I know at Carribean and Corondao there are some nice hammocks out by the lakes that I could spend the whole day in if I wasn't a park guy. Boardwalk and Downtown Disney have plenty of shopping. Even though it's a park, the World Showcase at Epcot is certainly more of an atraction for those of us getting older than it is for the kids.

There should be a cabana rental at the water park. Typhoon Lagoon is closed so you could try Blizzard beach. It's a little pricey I think.. Like $300 pricey. What about a fireworks cruise on the Seven Seas Lagoon? I know you mentioned she is not a foodie but what about a dinner show? HDDR is pretty good but there are many others off property (if you have a car). There is also the dessert party where you can make reservations and have a reserved spot for wishes..You could also call your resort to see what they may have to offer that might not be advertised....

Buy her a new robe, a case of diet coke and a stack of magazines. Take the family to the park and just leave her alone for the day. That is ultimately what all Moms want. Peace and quite.

Very good advice. I am sure anything you plan for Mom and her girls would be special in your Mom's heart. What about doing a girl's tea at Grand Floridian? Or call ahead, order her a special gift basket and have it delivered to her upon arrival? Another thought would be to do the segway tour, swim with the dolphins (kinda pricey but extremey memorable). My suggestion would be to *think out of the box* create a memory :) Best of luck!!

Sounds perfect to me...she can hang in the room or by the pool. She can stoll around the resort or even resort hop. I would love to spend a day all by myself just looking at differnt resorts. Maybe you could check out the Dinsey florist web site and arrange to having something sent to her room. The only other thing that comes to mind would be a behind the scenes tour. Not sure if that would be her thing or not. Good luck!!!

I would second the magazines, diet coke, and robe and add in a day/night at the AKL with a savannah view, if you want to get expensive about it.
