What's gone from this photo? I don't remember it being different when I was there in July.
That's from 2007... It's changed throughout the years. Gotten more decorations, then lost them when Disney "toned down" the native angle. Here are some shots to compare.

For sure, I love that sign too... Knowing that Dole Whips and POC were not far away! In DL they went even further and widened the entrance area (a bigger chokepoint than DW). Here's one from some sort of construction in 2018... I don't recall what they were doing (Club 33 related?):
