We are making our first non-spring/summer trip to WDW soon and will be there for New Year's Eve. What experiences have you had at WDW on NYE? Which park is your favorite and why? What types of special things does Disney do that day/night?

We went last year and had a great time. Make sure you save rides / attractions for other days of your visit - we went to EPCOT and did a couple of rides FIRST THING in the morning, after that we walked around, took in the shops and the World Showcase countries. Soarin' had a stand-by wait of over 4 hours by early afternoon.

We visited MK on Dec 30th - they run their NYE firework shows on the 30 AND 31st - celebrate the New Year twice !!

We visited EPCOT as basically there is more space in the park - but it still gets full (it closed mid-morning). Arrive early, have your ADRs in place and don't even think of park hopping as you won't get in.

We were at MK for new year a few years ago, and despite the HEAVY crowds, I loved every second!! We got to the park early and I have never been to the MK when it has been so full. We got onto a couple of rides, Pirates twice and Haunted Mansion once and for the rest of the day we enjoyed the parades, looked round the shops and sat down for dinner. The fireworks at midnight were awe-inspiring, truly magical. Once the park closed the trip back to the TTC was a long and hectic one, something that is NOT enjoyable at the end of a long, busy day. However. I loved the experience, taking into account the good and bad, I had a fantastic day.

Have a great time!!!

concerts & dance areas

Last time I was at Disney for New Year's (several years ago), EPCOT had several concerts going on, as well as a few DJ's with dance areas - my favorite being at the Japan pavilion. Yes, it was incredibly busy, but there was a great atmosphere (despite, or perhaps in part because of, some really serious weather that passed through mid-evening) and I had a great time. Fireworks were excellent, as expected. As has already been said, don't plan on having anything close to a 'normal' time in the parks, and do know that it could be cold (by Florida standards).

The above date signifies our last WDW visit during New Years Eve. We now go early December for the Holidays. That particular night was an absolute MADHOUSE at every open park. We were at the Magic Kingdom because EPCOT was already closed at 8:30a.m. that day. So we proceeded to MK. Despite wall to wall people it was exciting to be there that very special night. We "lost" our 13 yr. old son going through the exit gates to get to the tram. Luckily, he knew where we parked at met us there a 11/2 hr. later. The traffic down World Drive leading to Lake Buena Vista was bumper to bumper. This took another 11/2 hrs. But our boys (then 13 & 7) still have vivid memories of one wild night. :hammer:
