WDW Misinformation

So, I found (in another thread - you know the one) a link to TripAdvisor and started browsing the "terrible" reviews. The misinformation there is appalling! For example:

I wasn't informed of Disney's new FastPass system until we got to the parks the first day.
1) If you are not staying on Disney property, you get only 3 FastPasses per day.
2) If you are not staying on Disney property, your Fast passes are valid for only 1 park per day (doesn't matter if you just shelled out an extra $295 to"park hop")
3) If you are not staying on Disney property, the line to even get a FastPass is probably longer than the ride you want to go on.

Um... I stayed on property during my last trip and I'm pretty sure all of these applied to me. Except the last one. That could easily be solved by going on the website and making FP+ reservations!

So what Disney misinformation have you seen around?

It kills me that you can't comment on TA!

That seems like hyperbole but it really isn’t that bad of advice depending where you are headed. If you have an ADR at a resort or if it is at a peak time, I would plan for at least 1-2 hrs for travel. It may take a bus 20 minutes to arrive at your resort if you just missed it. If traffic is bad add another 30 to get across property. Eating at a different resort than you are staying at and coming from yours, gotta take 2 buses. One from your resort to DTD or theme park and one to the resort you are eating at.

Here's another gem:

Depending on season and amount of stops - it really can take up to 60 minutes between waiting and arrival at the stop. I think many of the complaints are those with ADRs and neglect to realize multiple modes of transportation may need to be taken - again depending on season and traffic - it can take 60+ minutes. So I agree this their arguement.

Remember, FP+ has just been rolled out to the parks within the last few weeks. If reviews were posted between late December and present - there is a high probability that people are not aware of FP+. You have to understand - not everyone is a WDW blog/message board follower. So again, I have to agree with their arguments on this one. On the other hand - as of mid last month - commericals and print have advertised FP+ so there is a level of educated guess/research that off property guest should have now.

I saw someone say the resorts (all) are comparable to a Motel 6 on a board where she was giving Disney "advice". She stays at Poly, GF and Contemporary herself. I thought that was pretty laughable. I can't imagine what she thinks about my poor mans resort POFQ? I may as well stay in a cardboard box I guess.

Doesn't that all depend on crowds, etc? Whatev, I'll be bussing it from AoA. if it runs slow, the just chill and look out the window.

Official guidance during peak times is 60-90 minutes to travel between destinations via bus.

You guys are killing me! Okay, granted, sometimes the waits can be really long for a bus. But it kills me that people are looking at these reviews and might assume that this is standard (which it isn't). I went in November during Thanksgiving break and I never spent more than maybe 30 minutes getting to even Magic Kingdom (from AKL). I always plan longer, just in case, but I just want to comment on these angry reviews and tell people to give it another chance! :p

Back to the bus wait times for a moment...

I've never stayed on-site nor have I had experience riding the WDW buses, but isn't the basic problem that the times can easily add-up simply because of timing?

I think using the bus to go from one resort to another resort HAS to be the worst because you have to take a bus from the resort of origin to a hub, where you have to get another bus going to the resort you want to get to.

Now, let's say you just missed catching the bus from the hotel you are departing from...it might be 20 mins until the next bus comes. On top of that, you may then also just miss the bus at the hub, and it might be another 20 minutes until that next bus comes. That's 40 minutes of waiting right there, not including the driving time. I certainly see how it adds up.

It's a shame going from one resort to another has to be so tedious as far as on-site transportation, but it would be COMPLETELY cost-prohibitive to have every resort have a bus going to every other resort. I'm not sure any other solution exists for resort-to-resort transportation that would not be huge expense.

It is fun to visit other resorts just because of the interesting grounds, themes and restaurants and such that are in the different hotels, but what a hassle and time-consuming venture it must be to use the buses in this way.

Honestly I've gone in the busy summer and never took more than an hour to get anywhere. Two hours is really pushing it even with transfers to another bus/mode of transport.

People who think "Disney World" is one theme park.

I actually just spent part of lunch explaining this to my boyfriend. I mean, he's a smart guy, he just hasn't been to a Disney park since Disneyland in 1990. Doesn't know anything about fastpass, let alone fastpass +. I'm on that app trying to show him Beaches & Cream and it's proximity to AoA, and he's all "Where's Disney World?" And I'm like, "All of it."
