So do I, and you implied the kids aren't safe having that venue as their event location, which is absolutely ridiculous. I've been there a few times when there's no major event so no increased security presence and it's just fine then as well. Would I go more than a block or 2 away from the stadium? No, but then neither would I in some other mid to major cities. Major sports facilities being in/on the edge of not great areas of town isn't something unique to Orlando.
Let me be clear. Inside the stadium it would probably be ok for the kids to play. The neighborhood that surrounds the athletic venue , it is not safe, so get in, play your event and get out of the area when completed. Shootings, assaults , drug dealings etc occur in the area on a regular basis but you may not be aware of that. Pop Warner has made a big mistake in leaving the safer environment of WDW.

I live in the Orlando area and go to sports and other events a few times a year, so yeah I'm familiar with it thank you. If you're not comfortable doing anything but getting in and out of the stadium ASAP that's fine, but to make it sound like the kids and their families are in some sort of imminent danger just by being there is absolutely ridiculous. I'm quite certain Pop Warner as an organization is well aware of the area surrounding the venue, it's not like there haven't been major events being hosted there for 30+ years without issue.

I will give them a year , two, tops. Pop Warner and their families will realize the big mistake they are making from leaving the family friendly confines of WDW and the unquestionable top notch facilities of ESPN Wide World of Sports facilities. Compare that to CWS and its questionable surroundings which you even admit to to some extent is day and night.

Perhaps due to the cost they are weening the organization in steps as a predecessor to relocating to a new city.

Wild that Pop Warner thinks this is safe enough to do while WDW still has the hotels closed because it isn't safe. Or TDO just wants to save a buck and it costs more to have their rooms open than they make from this?
Loss is of the indoctrination that comes from a kid's onsite visit and the revenue that nostalgia would have brought in the future. These are not long term thinkers though and they prove nostalgia means very little to them.

I don't know how Disney handles events, but from experiences with conventions and conferences, here's my two cents. Pop Warner didn't move from Disney on a whim or because D was increasing nightly rates slightly. Redoing a large scale event with that many parts at a new venue is a serious time sink which people don't do unless absolutely necessary.

Negotiations probably broke down due to one or more of the following.

Disney wanted a much larger guaranteed room block than Pop Warner was willing to give. Conversely, Disney went the opposite direction and wanted a shrink the size of the room block. The former would put Pop Warner in a bad situation if the rooms couldn't be filled (Pop Warner would need to pay Disney for their guaranteed room night requirements). The later could turn people off from attending Pop Warner since they'd have to pay Disney's current going rate for a hotel room.

Disney increased the spend or room night requirements for use of WWoS. If Disney is treating WWoS like convention space, Pop Warner was receiving a discount (up to 100%) off the rental cost of the facilities for purchasing goods, services, catering, and room nights through Disney. Disney might have deeply reduced the discount or drastically increased what Pop Warner had to spend for the venue.

Disney completely eliminated / bared the use of outside contractors by Pop Warner and was planning on enforcing this limitation.

New waiver of liability or additional insurance requirements required by Disney for their group size due to coronavirus. Pop Warner couldn't or wouldn't agree to the waiver or cost of the insurance.

With how long Pop Warner has been at Disney, I'm wondering if their usual event manager with Disney didn't retire, resign, or was fired. With the numbers Pop Warner was bringing in, what Pop Warner was spending and the associated personal spend from participants, I'm surprised an agreement couldn't be reached.

The kids will be fine at Camping World Stadium? Apparently you don't know the neighborhood surrounding the stadium.
Are the kids going to be wandering around neighborhoods? So they not hold any events at this place? Yankee Stadium isn't in the greatest neighbor but plenty come and go from there just fine, without being shuttled directly in by buses

But Orange Blossom Trail sounds so quaint and dainty, must be a beautiful walk down the center at sunset....

What rate were pop Warner groups paying at a value resort per night ? Disney is clearly pushing toward higher guest spending per night so a mass of young folks paying minimal rates doesn’t seem to fit that profile , not to mention the sentiment that seems to be the majority not liking these groups when they are on vacation

It’s entirely possible that on top of hosting a variety of professional sports events in a bubble (which is a tie in for hugs the TV division/ESPN aka also owned by Disney) TDO may not have felt comfortable saying that the All Stars would be anywhere close to fully operational. That entire facility was put into cold storage (the status where it’s left to sit largely unmonitored and collecting dust) and has been in that status for coming up on a full year. To bring the facility back into a rentable status will be expensive and likely only worth it if occupancy will be high enough to justify it

Pop and Cheer were lost due to Disney providing a bubble for NBA G (Basketball 'minors'). Since Uni signed a multi-year contract with them, they won't be back soon.

That clears up this situation nicely. While we'll probably never know, I wonder if Disney doesn't end up kicking themselves over losing their business down the road. The NBA contract is most likely to be larger in the short term, but Pop Warner was consistent business.

A multiyear contract with Universal isn't surprising. Multiyear contracts usually mean discounts or lower mandatory minimum spends plus Pop Warner knows they've got a site for at least a few years. It'll be interesting to see if they ever return to Disney after Disney cancelled their contract or chose not to negotiate a new one. Especially with Universal's lower hotel prices which makes Pop Warner more affordable for additional participants.
