WDW looks like a construction zone

Just got back tonight. As much as I applaud Disney for the work they are doing outside the parks, if I were a 1st time guest, I probably would not go back. The roads and landscaping looked awful. Cranes, trucks, cones, dirt piles absolutely everywhere. Does anyone know if all these projects are connected? Seriously, it reminded me of the Big Dig project in Boston a few years back.

Everything is connected in the sense that it's WDW property.

Road work is going on for a new entrance to DHS and a new toll booth flyover at MK. Obviously Pandora is wrapping up and TSL and SWL are just getting started. MK is pretty construction-free save for the crane behind the castle

Really??? In order to make progress you have to expect messy construction. Disney blocks off guest views of construction sites and debris inside the parks but its pretty impossible hiding this when working on roadways. We all run into this at home when roadways are being torn apart every year, so why would it be different because its Disneys roads? Hopefully first timers will understand its being done for future improvements and they will come back for another trip to see the difference. Its mostly what they encounter inside the parks and resorts that will determine their desire to return for another trip, not the roadways.

Unacceptable! I want new and better things, as quickly as possible, but I want everything to look pretty while doing it! If not-I'm going to Uni! ;)

Disney could pass out guest glasses with pretty scenery painted on the lenses as we enter construction zones.

Never said anything remotely close to that, but your attempt at humor is appreciated!

Captain America, thanks. That would make sense.

Can I please add that all construction must be done with all roads, parks, rides gift shops, restaurants ,etc. unaffected by any construction.

I mean... Uni DOOOOES do a better job at that..

BUT.. Nah the construction at WDW has never phased me. I expect to see construction walls up SOMEwhere every time I go! :) It has become part of the magic for me, honestly! :)

There is other thing under construction for MK. What I am referring is an expansion to Cosmic Rays. Cosmic Rays is open, but it has a bathroom expansion and a seating expansion.

I'm guessing they try to do a lot in the "off" season, which may not really be off, but it's some of the least crowded times of the year right now. Unfortunately, some things are hard to hide when in the middle of major construction.

My understanding is that a lot of what looks like road work isn't actually road work. I've heard they're laying a ton of fiber cables.

There is also a lot of road work going on. The intersections of Epcot Center Dr/Buena Vista Dr, Victory/Osceola, and Osceola/World Dr are all under construction, and I believe preliminary work has started on the project around the MK toll plaza. Soon work will begin on the World Dr to Reams Road connection, and the extension of Western Way to 545.

If you want new things at Disney then they've got to be built, unfortunately building takes a while and looks messy. I remember when Universal were building IOA in the very early stages. The exit took you through the building site and I'd never seen anything like it with dirt everywhere, it was definitely worth it though in the end.

I get it. My point is simply, don't bite off more than you can chew. The fact is, WDW is a complete resort destination, or is supposed to be. Don't start so many projects that it takes away the enjoyment of the area. Imagine a Sandals resort that was a complete mess. Years ago, when Disney had large construction projects, they did all they could to keep the show looking good. These days, it seems like they just don't care. You see tractors, cones, tarps, torn up roads, yet nobody working. They start multiple projects without seemingly any urgency to get things done and get things back to normal.

I know what you're saying however position is largely responsible for what you currently see. The redevelopment of Disney Studios cannot really be hidden due to it's proximity to the through roads. Moving the tractors and cranes etc every time they weren't being used would actually prolong the process though I agree they're not attractive to look at.

Funnily enough when Epcot was being built they'd built the monorail from the TTC to Epcot well before the park was complete, you could actually take the monorail to the building site to view the mess/ progress. Disney is also so big now that it's natural that at any one time there'll be something in need of repair or upgrade, sometimes these things clash and there's little that can be done about it.
