We will be going to Florida in May and staying onsite at Universal - but want to meet up with some friends staying at WDW for a birthday meal.

As we are offsite - can anyone suggest one of the WDW hotels/areas that offers a good quality buffet meal so it keeps all tastes happy?
We like Boardwalk but not sure if any buffets available.

Thanks
CJ

Cape May has a nice seafood buffet and thats at the Beach Club. Haven't eaten at Boma in the AKL yet, but I understand its very nice.

Here is a chart with the all you care to eat meals and their locations and price range.(of course, some things may have changed) Click Here

I really like Boma, recommend it wholeheartedly, but I know some people are going to be reticent to try it just because they'll be afriad it's TOO different. It's nothing that different, just spiced diffrently than what you might expect. Different types of dressing on the salad, different combinations of food. Chicken is still chicken, beef is still beef, and the kids' table still has chicken fingers and mac & cheese...

So, in case someone like that is in your party, who really wants to play it safe, try the Trail's End Buffet in Fort Wilderness. Hearty food, comfort food, plenty of it, and easily one of the most affordable non-counter-service meals in all of WDW, if not THE most affordable, period.

Another vote for Boma

The theming of the Animal Kingdom Lodge and of Boma is just wonderful. You can enjoy viewing the animals before or after dinner. If you walk out the back of the lodge you may run into a CM with night vision goggles. My daughter was so enthralled with the animals. My son was enthralled with the CM.

I cant believe no one has recomended Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary....prime rib, turkey, pork loin, grilled salmon, chicken, and scrumpdeelyicious salads and deserts....

I assume that you are talking about dinner. I am a fairly picky eater and did not care for Boma. Cape May Cafe at Beach Club has both seafood and "land" food and is one of our favorites. We also really enjoy Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary and 1900 Park Fare at Grand Floridian if you're looking for character meals.

As a picky eater, I can say that I'd prefer Boma over Cape May Cafe. I wasn't thrilled with their non-seafood selections and I could only eat so many mussels and peel-n-eat shrimp (desserts were terrific though). Although I do like Chef Mickey's and Crystal Palace over the others.

Seeing as you like the Boardwalk area, your decisinon is pretty easy....

CAPE MAY CAFE at the BEACH CLUB!

Enjoy a great meal and then hang out on the Boardwalk all night, enjoying the activities and watching the Epcot fireworks from there!

Discussions about who likes what will carry on forever on message boards like this, so your choice would best be based on location and food selection.

ENJOY!

Boma at the Animal Kingdom Lodge! Perhaps my favorite buffet ever. Breakfast is nearly as good as dinner. If you go, remember these two words, "Zebra Dome". They are on the far end, in the desert section. Thank me later.

Good luck parking at some of the resorts if you are not a guest. We didn't really have an issue with this untill our last day after we had checked out. Over the week we were there we spent all day at the parks and most early nights eating at different resorts. We visited several and were only asked a couple of times why we were there. The guards at most resort gates just looked at the parking tag on our dash and waved us in.
The last day we decided to dine at the Contemporary. We were asked at the gate is we had reservations. I thought at first he meant for lunch but realized he was talking about a room. When we said no we were told we could not park on property, that they were too busy. The TTC was an obvious option, but my girlfriend wasn't feeling good and just wanted to eat. We proceeded to the Grand Floridian but were told the same thing (just by a nicer person, the first one was pretty rude).
So you should be ready to park at the TTC and ride the monorail. Just have park tickets ready as they were checking for those one day we were there too.

If what Hammer says in the above post is true, I have one more, perhaps ideal, choice: 'Ohana's at the Polynesian...walking distance from (most of) the TTC lot

It's not exactly a buffet so much as all-you-can-eat family style fare. Your side dishes are presented on a lazy susan in the center of the table (and you can always ask for more), and the "entrees" are well-seasoned well-sized nuggets of various meats & fishes presented on spears by various servers. If they have food you want, they remove it from the skewer for you, and they keep coming back with more if you want it. They present fun things for kids to do, like races involving using brooms to sweep coconuts across the floor, and there is a view of the Castle from many of the seats (and I think they pipe in the music during the fireworks).

You might also want to consider the luau dinner show at the Poly. More expensive, but it IS a dinner show, plus it includes unlimited beer and wine. And again, being as it is at the Poly, it'll be one of the easiest restaurants to get to if they're prohibiting day guests from parking in a resort lot without a WDW pass.

If you try any of the other buffets or all you can eat fare at MK resorts (1900 Park Fare at GF, Chef Mickey's at Contemporary, Whispering Canyon at Wilderness Lodge, Trail's End at Fort Wilderness, you'll probably have to allot yourself more time to get there from the TTC, again, if Hammer is accurate.

Boma at AKL, being farther away from the action, might be more relaxed about day guests coming to visit. It's much less liely that someone will park there trying to avoid the theme park lots than they would at the MK or Epcot resorts. But make reservations just to be on the safe side.

Finally, I'm not a big seafood lover, so the Cape May Clam Bake Buffet is wasted on me. But their breakfast buffet kicks a significant amount of keister, If breakfast is an option for your get-together, I recommend it, too.

I ate at that buffet in Grand Floridian and I suggest a don't. It is mostly little children, great place for children but food buffet plates are small. Mostly macaroni and cheese pizza. Some stuff is good but overall I didn't like it.
