I heard the fountain water was bad in WDW. Just getting back from our trip and visiting all four parks, bad is not even the word...its HORRID. Especially Magic Kingdom by a long shot. It tasted as if they were just recycling used toilet water or something..yuck..even flavoring couldn't cover that..

For some reason though Epcot seemed to have cold crisp water from their fountains...it still has a bit of an aftertaste but at least it was "coldish"

The other 3 parks were just horrible. Why can't Disney pump up some decent water into their fountains? (You can't blame it on the Orlando water system either, because the water from our tap at our rental house was cold and didn't taste too bad..)

I had to do a double take when reading this the first time. I thought you were talking about fountains like those used for decoration. I've personally never drank from one of the drinking fountains before so can't answer that question, but you would think the quality would be better than what you described.

I've drank from the fountains a few times, other than a slight earthy after taste I didn't notice anything wrong with it. But then again, when you are dying of thirst in the summer heat, I don't think it matters what it tastes like.

WDW doesn't use "Orlando" water. They process wastewater and treat potable water on property. Have you ever drank the water in the resort rooms? It's not the best tasting either.

The warmness of the water dispensed by the drinking fountains makes the bad taste come through stronger. When it's cold, you don't notice it as much. But because of the amount of water that's consumed from the drinking fountains in the parks, they never have time to properly chill a reservoir of water.

I think they should have different water fountains for AP holders, DVC members, and Deluxe Resort guests. The Magic Band technology would allow that. These guests could then get nice cold good tasting water.

I didn't notice a problem with the water's taste when I was there last week. I think the more glaring problem is the water pressure with some of the fountains (looking at you, French Quarter lobby).

Just get free cups of water from food and drink counters. It's good!

We also bring bottled waters with us and to the parks, not a fan of drinking fountains.

Since it's about Water Fountains....Anyone know if the Talking water fountains in Epcot are still speaking or were they shut off? It was the Water fountains close to MouseGears by the Fountain..

Now I can see why they would have, if they have, turned the speakers off -- What a waste of water just so that you can hear it speak!

You're mixing two different facts. Yes, WDW processes wastewater and yes, it's potable quality, but no, that's not the water they feed to guests. The reclaimed water is used for irrigation. The drinking water is from the public supply.

I know they use the treated wastewater for irrigation and such. But don't they (RCID) also have a water treatment plant on property, where they treat and dispense potable water? Or do they actually buy water from neighboring municipalities?

Both. The treatment plant generates potable water but nobody actually drinks it. It's a PR issue. Even if it's perfectly clean and sanitary and meets all the standards out there, they're not going to allow the Orlando Sentinel to publish the headline "Disney serves guests water generated from human excrement."
