Permits were filed today for the Waterstar Orlando Project, and although this is not a Disney project it will will be right up against AK lodge. Looks like it will be a mix of apartments and retail.

Wow, surprised Disney didn't purchase this land to prevent others from building so close. Did they own the land originally then sell it off?

Disney purchases this land. Land next to it: "Wow, surprised Disney didn't purchase this land to prevent others from building so close." Disney purchases that land. Land next to it: "Wow, surprised Disney didn't purchase this land to prevent others from building so close." And on it goes. . .

There’s really no way to look at this as a “positive” for wdw travelers. Putting more crap - and that’s all this js - In a town that is notorious for overbuilding is never a plus.

slamming it next to DAKL isn’t good either…you want “oasis”…not the sounds of Dual exhausts on the wind.

disney should have really bought that land…so many advantages to that. More bad management…a Bob specialty

I doubt it, since they're on the other side of the parking lots and the actual hotel buildings from this development.

It still sucks, though. Disney should have kept a buffer of undeveloped land all around their property.
But then where would the giraffes go for Texas Blossoms?

Did you ever think of the giraffes?

No, you only think of yourself.

And let’s not even touch on the DAK lions who claim the ribs are “to die for.” They‘d know.

Or the gazelles who enjoy Fuji Apple salads from Panera on Tuesdays.

Everyone here is so selfish.

Disney didn't have to put AKL right next to its property line but that is what they chose to do. As for "slamming" next to Disney, that's not the developer's fault. Disney doesn't get special privileges for what's outside its property--that is retained for what's in its property (Reedy Creek Improvement District Act). So now this is even Chapek's fault because he didn't purchase land adjacent to the 27,000 acres that Walt bought. Amazing.

I’m not blaming the developer…and Disney’s entire history in Florida is 100% based on special privileges. That’s historical record.

Disney could have guarded against this kinda “bad show”….in this case.

but it’s more philosophical…sometimes enough is enough…throwing money down the same holes isnt synonymous with “success”

that applies to a lot of things around here of late

And as I’m sure you know…DAKL is where it is because they wanted to block Osceola parkway being connected to 27…which was a wise move being partially undone by throwing more crap in that region…but not the fault of the lampreys in this case.

They oriented DAK and the villas so that your attention is focused away from these off site properties, so I don’t see what the big deal is. You might see something from the bus or a standard view room (not many of those), which already had gross views. This particular resort is very dichotomous. Gorgeous savannah views. Repulsive parking lot side. I hated that part of Kidani—walking along a parking lot with very little vegetation to get the Jambo for food. Not magical at all.
