waterfront vs. garden views?

I've noticed that at certain Disney resorts, it just doesn't help much to pay extra for a "better" view. For example, at CS and POR, our "waterfront" views were either blocked by big, beautiful oak trees or a stairwell. (We told the front desk and were refunded the difference.) While at WL, we were bumped up from a woods view to a courtyard view at no extra charge, and it was a mucho better view! The woods view was of the woods across the service drive right below the balcony- yuck.

So, where have you noticed that room location makes a big difference? Oh, and which side of the Contemp Tower is better? (we're splurging for TGiving!) gracias

At the Contemporary go for the side facing the Magic Kingdom. Nothing is better that watching the Magic Kingdom at night right from the balcony of your room.

While I agree that the view is better - does it really matter ? I mean
1) being at MK at night is surely better than watching it, and
2) a room is just somewhere to sleep and leave your clothes while your touring the parks - isn't it ???

I agree being at Disney World is fun in itself, but waking up and the first thing you see when you walk out is Cinderella's Castle is certainly worth the extra money. Better than waking up and staring at a parking lot if you ask me.

if you get the magic kingdom view you will also be looking at the parking lot. It's not bad though. Nothing is better than watching the fireworks from your balconey and then not having to fight the crowds to leave the park. We had a great time when we went in december. ask for a MK view on the highest floor possible. We stayed on the 10th floor. The eleventh is the highest without being concierge.

At the YC/BC, I think the views can make a big difference. The "Standard" rooms can have you looking at a parking lot or the roof! We tend to drop the extra cash to be able to view the lake and the Boardwalk and even some of Epcot's taller World Showcase pavilions.

Although at the Boardwalk, our last room was a "Garden View" and it was lovely! The flowers and landscaping were beautiful and we thought if we had an actual boardwalk room, it may be noisy from the activities on the pier.

Just my input.

Many of the high-end, waterfront rooms in Building 8 at the Grand Floridian have their views blocked by huge Pine trees...something I complained to the front desk about several times...

We had waterfront views at the Yacht Club that were terrific...very nice at night too.

Even though we never stayed at the Contemporary, I think an upper level room in the Tower facing the Magic Kingdom would be the best.
