Water parks......trying to decide

I am just wondering how worth the water parks are? I have never done them as I am not a big water park person but, I have a 2 1/2 year old that I think would like it but, I am not sure it's worth the extra money to go. I am a little worried about if there is stuff for a 2 year old there and if there is, I am worried about safety with the crowds as we are going the frist week of free dining. Anyone have any thoughts??? Or is the pool at the resort just as satisfying? Oh, and we are completely paid for our trip but, I know I can add water parks anytime.

With a 2 year old I would stick with the pools at the resort. There is stuff at both water parks for a child that age but they would hardly be worth the extra expense of a water park ticket. If your situation is such that you could trade off babysitting duties with another adult while you both take turns experiencing the rest of what the water parks have to offer you could justify it but just barley.

I agree...stick with the pool resorts...the water parks tend to be a bit busy. Maybe wait another year and then give it a try...she'll be a bit older. Normall the resorts off the water play areas too..even the value where the kids can play in and about the water sprayers like a sprinkler..my little ones loved them when they were her age!!! Enjoy:wave:

Yeah, I have to agree with everyone else - stick with the resort pool. I love the water parks but it's just not worth it for me to go with two small kids. I would spend all my time watching them and hanging out in the kiddie area - not that I mind that but it's a lot of money to spend when they can get the same pleasure from the hotel pool! When my kids get a little older I will definitely be bringing them.

Thank you for the advice....it makes me realize that we made the right decision. We are traveling as a grandgathering the others in our party have the waterpark passes and we chose not to get them thinking we could add them later but, I think we will just do our own thing that day.

I'll be in the minority and suggest you might very well enjoy, particularly, Blizzard Beach. We've been taking my son since he was about 2 1/2, and there are times he prefers BB to the four big parks. When he was 2 1/2, loud noises indoors bothered him, so we figured a water park might work great, and it did. We go every trip now (he's 5) and he still loves it. A few things we enjoyed at BB with our 2 1/2 year-old.

1. BB has two kids areas. One (Tike's Peak) is designed for kids up to 7 or so. It has four different kinds of kid-perfect slides, a shallow splash area, sand to play in, and plenty of wooden shelters (four poles and a roof) to set your stuff under to get out of the sun when you rest (lounge chairs, etc.). Plus, it's off the beaten path, and no teenager would be caught dead their, so it's quiet -- perfect the little guys.

2. The family raft ride (Teamboat Springs) is the best I've been on in. You can all ride together, the ride is long, and you don't hae to carry raft up with you (conveyor belt). My son loved this from the first time we rode, and we must have ridden 6 times that first trip. Every trip since then, we've bought the picture of us from the end of the ride, and I don't think my son has a bigger smile in any other picture we've ever taken.

3. The tube slides (Runoff Rapids) have a double tube option, where you can ride with your little one. The logistics aren't obvious, but the CM's will help.

4. The wave pool is gentle bobbing waves (unlike TL's crashing surf) and our son loves just floating in his life jacket (which they'll give you for free).

5. The second kids area (Ski Patrol Training), which is designed for roughtly 8-12 year olds, has a couple of things our little one liked then and still does. He's kind of fearless, though, so your results may vary.

6. For Teamboat Springs and a few of the more adult slides, there's a chairlift you can take to the top. The lift line can be long, but when the alternative is dragging or carrying your kid up, it's a good choice. We usually use the chair lift in the early monring, when there's no crowds and the line is short, and then take a couple of trips walking up later.

7. Crowds have never caused us to leave, even in the dead of summer. We arrive first thing in the morning, and go until about 2 or so. By then, the child is tired, so we usually head back to the hotel. Once we went back to BB near closing (after nap) and that worked great as well.

So if you think your child would enjoy it, you might want to give it a shot. It is easier, however, if there are two adults, for a couple of reasons. First, you can switch off and somebody can do the larger slides while the other takes the child in the wave pool, lazy river, kids area, etc. Second, even in the kid's areas, there are couple of slides where it can help to have somebody walk the child to the top of the slide and have somebody else positioned at the bottom.

I just posted a long message in support of BB with a 2 1/2 year old. Now that I see you'll be in a big group, I'd recommend it even more, because you'll have help with your child.

DS was 2 1/2 last time we went. We thought about going to TL because we thought he's like the wave pool. Then we opted not to go. He had tons of fun at resort pool. We have since decided that we probably won't be going to water parks until both boys are big enough to do most of the slides. For us, if they can't do the slides it's not worth the money.
