Water Park Help!!

Hi Everyone! We are trying to figure out which water park would be best for our 2 children (6 and 3 1/2). We have been to Disney many times, but we have never visited one of the water parks. My son is a huge shark fan, so I think Typhoon Lagoon would be best. But, are there things that will interest the little one?

Also, has anyone ever rented one of the cabanas? Are they worth the $200? The shade is our big worry, with the cabana you will have that automatically.

TIA for all of your help, you guys rock at giving advice!!

We liked Typhoon better just because it had salt water instead of heavily chlorinted water. My son's eyes used to get upset at Blizzard (when he was little). I've never rented it.... BUT, I only went for the morning and used a heavy sunscreen. I think 200.00 is steep.

We've been going since our kids were about the same age as yours. Both parks are great for kids, but we've always preferred TL over BB. I would never rent a cabana, unless you just won the lottery. There are plenty of trees, and you should have no problem finding a shady spot, especially if you arrive close to park opening.

Both parks are about the same size. TL has the shark reef, which is fun, but it's a pretty quick attraction (you have to swim straight through, no hanging around in the water). I think it comes down to which type of theme you prefer. If you like a tropical vibe, go to TL. If you think the idea of ski chalets and snow is fun, go to BB.

Also, I think TL is more popular in general, so line ups might be longer there...but I don't know for sure.

Typhoon L has lots of shade. I would never even consider renting a cabana...that's crazy. Wear a hat and sunscreen!

Typhoon Lagoon is your best bet. It does have the shark tank and also IMO is more accommodating to the little ones. And don't worry, there's a really well-grown tree canopy so there is plenty of shade. Have fun.

We've been to both and both my boys enjoyed TL more. I asked on another post last year which water park people liked better and hands down the winner was TL! As a matter of fact, the last time I read the post not one person had voted for BB.

Thanks for your help guys!! I have to agree, I also think TL would be best for the kiddos. Hopefully we will get there before the mob and grab some shade!!

Is it normally busy when the park opens?

It does get busy pretty early but if you get there when it opens you will find some shade. I also agree that TL is the best bet. The wave pool is awesome and you can find a spot where the waves aren't to strong. The theming is beautiful and the rides IMHO are better than BB. Have fun!!

The afternoon storms will clean the place out too. We always arrive around 330 when the storms are usually winding down to the delight of thousands of people leaving. Once the storm passes, we pretty much have the place to ourselves from 5-8 or whenever it closes.

My 3.5 year old likes TL better than BB. There are just more things for her to do there.

Have fun!

We need time for things to happen.
Hmmm...basing it on the age of your two youngsters I would have to disagree with the other posters.

I think that BB might be the better choice.
It's got teamboat springs the giant family tube slide..
It's got the ski patrol training area...

TL has the wave pool which is incredibly awesome but it's not the best for little ones...Man those waves will pound and throw a grown man....not that I've been knocked over by them or anything...:lookaroun....just saying....

I think what I'm trying to say if if you were going with a couple o' teens or just you and the spouse I would say TL but in answering what I think is best for your little ones - I'm saying Blizzard Beach.

Hope that helps!

I honestly don't like Blizzard Beach. As cool of a theme they have, its too hot and too bright in the Florida Sun.

TL has great amounts of shade and a kiddie area. So they can play, then rest, then play some more. Just watch out for the wave pool, it will beat the crap out of you.

I miss River Country...I really liked that place. That being said, I think TL is probably the best. BB is fun but if given the choice of only one, we'd always take TL. And don't forget to buy Disney towels! Unless there quality has changed, I always felt those were the souveneirs most worth the money you have to pay for them. We used the ones we bought for years and years.

If you go when it opens it's pretty good. We usually left around 12 or 1 and it got pretty crowded at that time. I think a lot of people leave a park and go there. You might want to leave and take a nap :)

I would take kids age 4 and 7 to Blizzard:
A fun theme that connects better with kids.
Good kiddie area.
Cool family slides.

For shade, Typhoon. Somehow there seem to be more trees, a much thicker canopy.

No need to rent a cabana, unless your on a budget allowing for a suite in a luxury resort and the like.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I am not very big on water parks, we have Wet and Wild 20 min from our home.... I have been there once and I have lived that close all of my life. I have a feeling it is going to be me and the little one hanging out in the kids area. While the guys go do the slides.

If I am not mistaken, there are no height requirements right? I must say though DD(3 1/2) will not go down any slides own her own. I just hope she can ride along with me on Castaway Creek.

Are you talking about the towels that are rented or sold at the park?

Sold at the park....but I haven't been to DW in 6 years so I wouldn't be surprised if there has been a drop in quality over the years. But always loved the ones we bought and used them for years. I didn't even know you could rent towels...we always brought our own??

another opinion, as if you needed it with so many other great opionions

my sisters and I, plus boyfriends and husbands, all love BB over TL. We always felt there were more "adult"-like slides at BB, meaning steeper and faster, we also felt like there was more to keep us busy, we always got bored quickly at TL. I have always recommended friends with kids to go to TL where the slides are slower, and more relaxed versus steep. Yes, BB has the kids ski-patrol, but unless that is all they do all day, TL still has more toddler friendly attractions, while still accommodating older ones. We hold PAP so we go to waterparks often and always choose BB. My friends, also PAP holders, who have little ones, always choose TL for their kids.

Take a look at the maps for each park, if I remember correctly, they'll give you the stats for each attraction and then you may be able to better judge what will work for your family.

We did try a cabana once, and found it was a great way to escape the crowds at the busiest times, but other than that, didn't use it enough to warrant the cost. Disney is great about spraying down the sidewalks to keep feet cool and strategically planting fake and live foliage to keep things shaded.

If this isn't something you get to do often, DEFINITELY take a waterproof camera, whichever park you go to, you'll want to take pictures. THIS IS NOT a wet n' wild type park, this is Disney.

We still buy the towels every time we go. They are a little less "quality" than several years ago, I have towels to compare, but still good. We could bring our own, but we really like buying them, because I agree, it is something worth the money. Another plus is that they come out with new designs often enough that we always want a new one for our collection.
