Water Mouse Boats

I was looking at some pictures of the Water Mouse Boats at the Polynesian. They look really fun, especially for kids. Does anyone know what the deal is with them? Can you rent them? Is there an age restriction? How big is the area to ride them in, if possible to do so? Are they hard to get, do you need reservations? Any info at all would be helpful. Thanks!

i beleive no reservations are needed.. i think you gotta be 16 with a parents signature and 18 without.. other than that the last time i did them it was 30 something a half hour or an hour.. but if you take em from the polynesian or any of those hotels aroudn the lagoon you can drive there or you can drive all the way over to the wilderness lodge and stuff... but there is alot of no wake areas so it takes a lil while to get there, so depending on how much time you wanna pay for it could add up.. fun though.. they go pretty fast and are quite fun..

My husband absolutely loves these boats. He hasn't been able to rent one the last several trips and I'm thinking if it isn't one of the first things we do on our next trip I'll have a very cranky husband on my hands. Anyway, no reservations needed you can just go to the dock and pay the rental fee and get a little lesson in how to operate one. Sorry, I don't remember the restrictions or cost. You've got all of Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake (I think) to drive around in if you rent from the Poly or somewhere like that rather than at Downtown Disney.

Those boats are great. The best place is in the Seven Seas Lagoon/Bay Lake Area. They cost about 30 dollars for an hour and you don't need reservations. The best time to go (in the above place) is in the morning. There is a lot of activity on the lake, making it much more fun than in the later part of the day.

I know, I love the water mice. (Which I think used to be sprites??) Anyway, I used to rent them at least once a day at Caribbean Beach when you could buy a length of stay all members in your party pass for merely $35. It then went to $110, and now its over 200. So those days are over and I rent one per vacation now, which is sad.

Also, an observation, at least at Caribbean Beach. In the past, cheaper water mice days, there were always at least 30 mins waits for boats and they packed those boats in the lake. Now, you dont have to wait to use them and the lake is virtually empty of boats. I think Disney may have outpriced themselves at Caribbean Beach. So sad..

Yes, they used to be called Water Sprites. We first tried them in 1993. We've rented from the Poly and Contemporary, maybe this year we'll do it again from the GF. It never fails, one person in our group gets a dog of a boat. Everyone else zips around and they can't seem to catch up. We love them and have gotten some great video footage of the hotels while cruising Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon.

These boats are the best!! I definitely suggest renting them!! I remember as a kid riding them (before they were deemed "water mice") with my dad and then my brother... I had a blast!

Can you rent them from Down Town Disney? We're staying offsite this year, but had great fun last year with them from PO:RS.

Would love to do that again.

I know you used to be able to, but I'm not sure if you still can.

I rented one in 99

Had a blast, especially with the cast member discout. 3 of my friends also rented one from the fort wilderness docks and we had a great time out there for an hour or so. My only problem was that I apparently got one of the duds. My boat wouldn't idle so that lead to a problem.

You see while we were out on the lake there were 2 younger teenagers out riding the wakes of the ferry boats which was against the rules. The 'coast guard' pulled me over and accused me of doing it, the problem was my boat was going too slow to do anything especially ride wakes, it would have knocked me over. I was told to put the boat in neutral but it wouldn't and kept slipping, so I floated into the police boat and the woman got really upset, I tried to stop myself with my hand but then was told not to touch her boat. I barely touched her boat and she was quite upset. Then all of a sudden let me go without any assistance with my craft because they found the perpetraters.

They also get clogged with seaweed very easily and you have to continually take the prop out of the water to clear it out. Other than all that, great time!
