Watching Electrical Water Pageant from Cali Grill

My current plan is for my wife and I to have supper at Artist Point on one night, then afterwards do a carraige ride at Ft Wilderness at 8:30 or so, then stay there or go back to WL to watch the Water Pageant.

However, we are meeting up the night before with one of the guys from the boards here and his wife, for supper at California Grill at 8 PM. Wishes is at 10 PM that night and we scheduled supper accordingly, so we could watch wishes from the restaraunt.

In order to free up a little time Tuesday night, so we can leave after our carraige ride to DTD or mini-golf instead of staying for the water pageant, I thought maybe the 4 of us could all watch the water pageant from Cali Grill, followed by wishes.

Is there a good view from the top of the Contemporary from which to watch the water pageant, or is it up so high that you can't get a very good view?

I am not sure but I dont think there is going to be a very good place to watch the pageant show. Maybe at the one end of the resturant opposite the magic kingdom thru the windows or go out on the roof from the side where the restrooms are.

Well, I've heard that the water pageant goes right by the Contemporary, so I guess the only question is whether or not there is good viewing from the balcony outside the California Grill (where we would be standing to watch "Wishes").

If not, then if we are done with supper and go back downstairs to watch the pageant, are we then barred from going back up to Cali Grill to watch Wishes? Or would they let us back in? And if they did let us back in would we still look like a bunch of dumb hicks for doing that?

My wife and I dined at CG in August, and got a coveted table by the windows facing MK. First thing to note -- we sat down at 7:45 and finished dinner around 10:15 (appetizer, dessert, etc.). Leaving and coming back for the Pirate and Princess Party fireworks was not necessary. We saw the EWP as it performed for the the Poly, GF, and MK. We couldn't see the Conteporary performance, which is on the other side of the hotel. However, I am very confident that the height of CG, combined with the distance from the waterfront that the Conteporary tower is will make watching the EWP from the CG balcony a less then rewarding experience. First of all, I doubt you'd hear the music. Secondly, while we could see the performance clearly, it was so distant as to render it very underwhelming.

I'd take the time and watch from the docks at FW. Much better viewing.

I didn't know the EWP had music because the only times we've ever seen it, it's been from California Grill.

Depending on where you sit, it's possible to catch it in one of two areas. You can see the show presented toward Poly if you're on the lagoon side of the restaurant. If you're in the back room you can see it in Bay Lake, once near FW and once near Contemporary. Every time we've seen it, the views have been very clear and you can see everything, though it is a bit small and distant.

Thanks. However, based on the other replies, maybe I should stick with the original plan.

The water parade is ok, it's a quick parade really, don't have it messing up your schedule though. It's been the exact same parade since 1971. The rough schedule I found was as follows: Times are subject to change (check with guest services) but the Electric Water Pageant generally can be seen at: 9: 00 PM - Disney’s Polynesian Resort 9:15 PM – Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort 9:35 PM – Disney’s Wilderness Lodge 9:45 PM – Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground 10:05 PM – Disney’s Contemporary Resort http://www.intercot.com/infocentral/accomodations/electricalwaterpagent.asp Have fun

there are 2 areas out on roof you can access. 1 through CG lounge the other is past elevators in the CG lobby. Make a left and go past the small banquet rooms and then outside. You can see the water pageant and hear the music pretty easily if you are on the bay lake side roof access. They are usually pretty strict if you are not eating at CG withh reguards to access.
