Watched the WD historical documentary on PBS - is it a matter of time....

For those who haven't seen it, go to PBS's website and watch. Very balanced - Walt as genius and as all humans are, with flaws. Included interviews with Imagineers and Diane Disney Miller's husband. And makes me understand and appreciate even more Roy's partnership with his brother. More than just the "banker". If it weren't for Roy's level head, especially during the artist walkout, we might not have a place we like to visit......

You can't call something Disney-related "balanced" when Neal "Monstrous Piece of Libelous Junk" Gabler is involved.

I thought that the documentary was very well-balanced and produced. Especially because of the unprecedented access of archival materials that the producers enjoyed. While Neal Gabler has his critics, I would also be skeptical of something that Diane Disney Miller and Walt's former workers approve of due to the potential of whitewashing and the tendency to remember only the good times. Therefore, I like the approach of letting an unbiased third-party, such as PBS, to make a film like this. Their reputation of making quality documentaries is well-known and respected.

The movie will be argued about for years to come. The ride, though? It ain't going anywhere. It's been around for over a quarter century now, and no one has complained.

I seem to recall a time before Splash Mountain's major refurbishment that people on here were complaining a lot about that ride.

You and I are on the same page for once...but I will say that the confederate flag has been around for a hundred fifty+ years and just look what our overly sensitive hyper PC society has brought to that. All it will take is for some poorly informed PC zealot to get a news media outlet on a slow day and "voila'...Splash Mountain media smear campaign. It will happen at some point I think but I also think it will weather the storm just fine. I think the answer is to pre-ban Al Sharpton for life:cautious:.

THAT is a little bit different. I'm not going to go into that, because my views were made on the thread specifically about the Confederate Flag being pulled from the American Adventure.

Suffice to say that as long as the live-action bits and certain elements (like the Tar Baby) are kept out, the popularity of the characters, Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah, and the ride itself should keep Splash around for a good long while.

All I am saying is that some hyper sensitive cry baby at some point will get their 15 minutes of fame whining about children being exposed to a "racist" attraction and some media outlet will pick up on it. It will be a flash in the pan...but it will happen at some point I think. We (as a country) invent new and wonderful ways to be offended more and more everyday and at some point some parent who feels slighted by some invented travesty will just look for the easiest and most sensational reason to lash back at the corporate giant.
