I read the review and was so dissapointed, how does this stuff happen to an addition that was so long in the planning. Was it an overlay or a new construction? I was so excited for it to open, anyone eat there yet, can you comment on the food /atmosphere from the guest perspective.

Perhaps you can wait to be disappointed until you've tried it yourself. Everyone's taste is different. Some people love the food because it's unique. Other's hate it because it's not a hamburger.

Based on the photos, I'm very impressed with the restaurant itself.

Service will be less than adequate in EVERY new restaurant....in the real world, or in a theme park.

And what does your subject have anything to do with your post? It was a remodel of an existing space, with an addition for restrooms.

I never take a review totally to heart I will visit and try it. I take this one a bit more serious since it comes from WDW MAGIC.

Skipper Canteen is located in the old Adventureland Veranda restaurant (former counter-serve.) The construction off the back was for the restrooms and other building improvements.

We dined here a couple weeks ago and enjoyed ourselves. We did not go in with any expectations and so were not disappointed with what we "expected" to find. The theming was fun, we sat in the mess hall and could hear the "conversations" going on upstairs. Our server was friendly, attentive and had several clever jokes...as fans of the Jungle Cruise, we played along with her.

We liked the bread, but found the spread too sweet for our taste. The steak salad was cooked to order and the dressing was not overpowering, but it was missing cucumbers. The Char Shiu Pork was very flavorful; we had it with both Five Grain and White Rice.

Can't comment on desserts since we did not try any. Our only disappointment was Skipper Canteen does not accept any discounts yet.

Yes
It's a sit down restaurant sans characters, something in short supply in MK. We'll be eating there our next visit in March just because of the Shu Mai and other non burger/hotdog menu items... That and I haven't eaten in that space since Kikoman sponsored the previous place with my grandparents.

Food reviews are food reviews. Yes, I too value the reviews that @wdwmagic does, but I stop at any review of actual food. I don't read or consider any food reviews, even from "food critics".

Everyone's taste is different. Someone might argue that [example] "they have the best salmon on the planet", but since I don't like or eat fish, it still wouldn't be good to me if I tried it.

The photos @Tuvalu posted look DELICIOUS. However, I might get there and try them and say, "Whoa! This green onion really overpowers the rest of the dish" or "the marinade on this pork lacks flavor" or "the pork is really dry." Then again, I could claim that it's the best pork in the world, while 50 other people say it's awful.

Food reviews mean nothing. They're opinions. Go make your own.

I ate there on new years eve for lunch. I have to admit I was not expecting much from it
but the food was very good and the service as well. The main hall is a little boring in terms of
atmosphere but the two side rooms have nicer details. We worth the visit!

I think you should eat there first before you get defensive. Maybe once you eat there you can compare your opinions of the place to those that have actually eaten there.
I think that' fair. WDW Magic representatives have eaten there and others are coming in with a different opinion which is encouraging.

Exactly! This is what gets me about nearly every post that starts with "Will I like ________?" "Will my family love the food at _______?"
I have no idea what you, your family or any of your kids will or won't like. We have been blessed with adventurous eaters, and make it a point for each person on vacation to pick one place to eat. The rule is everyone goes, and no one complains. We have never had a place where we have had "bad" food. We do have favorites, but a big part of our vacations is getting to try at least one new place!
